I'd like to add a thought to this subject. I don't know how it is there in England, but here in PA, USA, smokers carry a rather large tax burden. So...why should people who pay more taxes than the non smoker have LESS rights? If everyone stopped smoking then the non smokers would be bitching because THEIR tax burden goes up in some other area. I don't think that any government is going to SPEND less just because they lose a tax base. They'll just pass it on in some other way.

Where does it stop? Why does it have to if the meaning can be gleaned from 'the story'? How do I know that it's true? Because of MY perception of what I have experienced and still experience in my life in relation to Christ. Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't think I am. Does that mean that I'm not? No...but as long as I'm dealing with it that's all that matters. LOL

I believe it IS allegory. Maybe Jesus, after his 40 days in the wilderness was thinking how cool it would be if he could get enough followers and take over the world without carrying out his mission the way he was supposed to. That doesn't make the account untrue.
As for the people back then believing that the earth was flat, they probably did. Just as they thought that the sun was moving around the earth instead of what we now know to be true. Don't people still only view life from the perspective that they can see it? Does that make their observations any less valid?

The proof that this is a lie is in their literature. How are they going to deny the obvious softening of attitute, and even outright promotion, of the UN and its agencies that has been taking place for the past several years in Awake? I think they understood perfectly what they were expected to do.

That's a bunch of crap. When I left, I wasn't even LOOKING to find fault with them. I had just started pioneering. I was DEVASTATED when I first realized the serious errors that the Society was making. When did you get appointed as the judge of people's hearts? Did that come along with your annointing?
FYI...anyone TRULY annointed by Yahweh's Holy Spirit eventually LEAVES Babylon...

the option of serving a non-governmental organization instead was a no-no for us.
the time i served was two years four months and fifteen days hard labour (1965-68) and i have not regretted any of that before yesterday.. for almost thirty years i have not been in contact with jw but as my youngest left home i started more active internet surfing and chatting.

I was like you, I knew that some of the JW's teachings weren't right, but I wasn't really angry or bitter at them. I tried hard NOT to be. After finding this site,reading some of the accounts of people who were raised in the bOrg (I was not) and finding out about the UN/NGO situation I'm kinda angry at these people. I hope they're completely exposed.
