  of course, as per other posters' recommendations, i could google this; i have and remain, not totally confused, but wanting the straight dope as well as nuanced meaning.

  an actual location, or simply a quiet place in your mind?.

  i attended a concert on sunday, a featured piece having been commissioned by a composer who lives in the city but retreats to an island in the puget sound (usa) to write his music.

  but we’ve had the jws be pretty active in our territory recently, and i got to say this to them on two separate occasions, to three different borgites, lol!

  something just dawned on me today as i processed my assimilation into the real world (thanks to our new poster, @jester, giving me a major throwback to my first post).. when you're a jehovah's witness, you really are in some sort of la la land.

  things which are perfectly normal are acts of eating from the table of the demons.

  things which are horribly grotesque and extremely unjust are branded as "righteousness".

  Great post JoHo - I too never thought of it from that angle. As each day passes we learn great things from this forum. Although I have been inactive / faded for nearly 4 years I would not describe myself as fully 'awake' because as this topic highlights, I have learnt something new. So I will describe my journey as a gradual awakening.

  PE also gave some great information on using different words to JW standard vocabulary. Thanks PE, will definitely use your ideas going forward.

  Back to OP's question ... what's changed?

  Well, the biggest thing would be all the lawsuits for child sexual abuse! There has been the ARC which is well documented, and investigations currently underway in the UK, USA, Canada and Mexico(?) and I believe individual cases in some European countries too.

  There's a big drive on shunning; even if you are not DF'd or DA'd - just faded.

  Finally; the Org is still crying poverty and on the scrounge for donations - no change there!

  Difficulty fading out

  this is my first post on here so i apologize that it is like an essay!.

  my husband and i are currently 'fading out' of the truth.

  we stopped preaching in may 2016 and limited meeting attendance in january 2017 and stopped completely in june 2017. my main reason for this was my whole life i have been doing things to please others, even getting baptized to please my mum.

  ... Maybe three to five years down the line you can really be viewed as inactive. But even then saying or being seen to do the wrong thing by friends or relatives who are JW's can be the short path to a DF.

  Hi Emily, and welcome to the forum.

  Some great advice has been given however, pay close attention to the snippet, above, which Freddo posted.

  Everyone has their own unique set of circumstances and unfortunately there is no easy way out of the Org. Basically, and I'm by no means making light of the situation, you can either go down the fade route, like myself and many others on this forum and have to continually be on your guard, or you can DA yourselves (and be damned with the consequences) and live your lives the way you deem appropriate.

  No matter what stance you take, there will be repercussions one way or the other.
