I would be very interested to find out what other measures Prof Jay thinks need to be implemented.

if you substitute j.w org for c of e this really hits home : (from bbc news site) :.
the church of england risks further crisis if it fails to adopt a sweeping new independent system to keep people safe, the former head of a national inquiry into child sexual abuse has said.
(prof. alexis jay).. "i think it's absolutely necessary because church safeguarding as it stands falls below the standards of secular organisations, and i do not think that can continue when it has also led to such serious weaknesses," she told the bbc..

Mmmm as a member of the CofE l know that in recent years safeguarding has been taken very seriously.
We are all being made aware of abuse in all forms - sexual, financial, emotional. Domestic violence and elder abuse.
All churches have safeguarding officers and all members are encouraged to report anything that makes them feel uncomfortable .
As a member of the PCC l have had to have specific training about awareness of something being " not right "
There have been failures and in some cases even maybe a JW type of attitude of not bringing the church into disrepute . However lessons have been learnt

so i am having these discussions about children etc and there are witness ties and family history in these discussions.
i got the feeling having this discussion that they seemed to imply somehow it was ‘the parent’s fault’ for having a miscarriage.
whether it was domestic violence, or the mother did something wrong themselves.
Kerry , that seems a very sweeping statement. I think that society in general now understands that there are medical reasons for miscarriages. Also my religious friends, male and female , are not misogynistic. I feel sad that your experience with religion has given you such a negative impression.

645-646 wolves in sheep’s covering - "can you detect them?
how can you avoid becoming their prey?....to his first-century disciples jesus sounded a warning that applies to us today with even greater force: “look out that you are not misled; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘i am he [anointed],’ and, ‘the due time has approached.’ do not go after them.” (luke 21:8) .
one of the more ridiculous and offensive things the wts has ever taught and that is saying a lot.. i know i saw a link to this article sometime in the last two weeks but i've lost it!
can anyone direct me to this article?.

there are no real numbers for jws but they are a relatively small group.
compared to the number of catholics at least.. the australian commission gathered more than 5000 cases with over 1000 perpetrators that went completely unreported for the jws.
likewise they did the same for catholics and collected just under 4800 cases with 1880 perpetrators.

Phizzy you are spot on about churches in UK having Safeguarding Programmes and Safeguarding Officers.
Anyone who is in any kind of leadership role is required to do Safeguarding courses. As a member of the PCC , the people who take care of practical matters in the church , l have had to do two Safeguarding courses .
There is a Safeguarding Officer and all church members are encouraged to report anything that they feel is not " right" .

i have been lurking around here for years.
i'm not a witness, but my in-laws are.
my wife grew up in it but was never baptized.
Wow definitely Bah Humbug Blues Brother - Scrooge reincarnated 🤣.
Maybe people with youngsters in the family, children and Grandchildren would be happy to start celebrating Christmas.
It's very isolating for children particularly to have to stay out of Christmas celebrations at school for instance, as you must know .
