  Off to tell the family...

  the day i've been waiting for is here.

  i'm flying home to see family and some old friends, most of whom are jw.

  since learning ttatt a few months back, i came to the decision i would have to tell my parents that we are no longer active and don't have any plans to return.

  Does the WBTS encourage circumcision?

  my wife is determined that my son will get circumcised when he is 10 or 11. i tell her that if she wanted him circumcised she should have done it when he was born and that it will be his choice and if he says no i will support him all the way.

  one thinkg i am not sure of is whether she is so adamant about this because the wbts requires or encourages it or because it is a cultrual practice int eh philippines (certainly leaving it until 10 or 11 seems to be a filipino thing.

  so my question is more directed at the practice of circumcision rather than the age at which it is done..

  My kid was circumcised. Waiting til you are 10 is just plain idiotic. I did it at 2 weeks and felt bad. The Jews had this one right from the research I dug up at the time. I guess thats one for the bible (it was due).

  But on the plus side, his junk will be more attractive and clean I suppose.

  multiple choice: the faithful and discreet slave mentioned by jesus at matthew 24:45-47 is (a) the governing body of jehovahs witnesses; (b) all anointed christians as a group on earth at any given time; (c) jesus christ himself.

  back in 2003 the correct answer would have been (b) all anointed christians as a group on earth at any given time.

  If I hear one more person justify this "new light" by telling me......"isn't that what we always believed?"......I'm going to go on a Jihad.

  Seriously, that statement in one small sentance tells me you have given up your ability to think on your own and are somehow ok with that, and second, that you were too stupid or didn't care enough to understand the theology of what you most likely still consider to be the one, true, and only faith.

  Nothing is worse than seeing theory murdered by facts.

  The deficit is going down. Like it or love it, it is going down. Alot of problems still otu there, but this guy just can't get stuck with everything the right is trying to throw.

  Yeah its a normal feeling. it will go away. The best "revenge" out there is to not be the person they tell everyone you will be. Enjoy your life, help others, be a better you, and maybe get one or two to follow you out EVENTUALLY.

  Remember, "by your conduct you can win them without a word". Same is true out here.

  my first post and some questions

  this is my first post after deciding to finally open an account here after months of 'lurking'.. a couple of issues i want to address-.

  i have issues with people who go from being a witness to losing all faith in god or the bible which seems to be the case with some members of this site.

  i just don't think you can let any religion change how you view god or the bible.. second-i don't feel the gb are bad people, i think most witnesses including them are misguided by something that has been drilled into their heads since they were little and are actually sincere people.

  Hey Wallie,

  Welcome to the board. Many here have similar circumstances as you. Advise will range based on what everyone has been through. Some here go agnostic or athiest, some are very devut, some have even converted to other similar groups (Mormonism). It is a very difficult group to paint with broad strokes.

  More to your thoughts. I used the think the same way. Honestly however, does it matter in a material way if the GB is sincere, good people, or not the greatest? Does being a true believer in something that isn't supported biblicly, or that causes harm to others make it better than if they had selfish motive?

  I would submit to you, that only the action or lack of action matters. Not the meaning behind it. We could speculate and create meaning, but the actions are the only things that can be verified.

  i recently had a child, and my in laws are baptist.

  Do you have to celebrate Christmas to go see your family occasionally around the holidays? I don't celebrate Christmas just like you don't and for similar reasons. But I probably will go to my families house around then. My house won't have a tree, and won't have lights (anymore than it has year round), and thats my choice.

  So don't sweat it.
