American Rantings About World Cup Soccer (Football)

i try ... i really try to watch football (soccer) ... it's world cup time ... i really do try.. i just don't get it ... i really don't.. yes, it's a world-wide sport.

in most countries it is the number 1 or number 2 sport ... no doubt about it.

it's maybe number 5 in the usa for professional sports.. from an american's perspective (i think i speak for many), we just wonder if these guys actually have testicles.

Come on bud, I got you on the advertisements...too many. But there is alot of play in american football. Its a fantastic game. Most people not born around it simply don't understand it, or have never played it.

Hockey is a thugs game? Ok maybe a little. But the Stanley cup this year was fantastically fun to watch. Of course, I am from the LA area soooooo. Also hockey is basically just ice soccer but more interesting.

Basketball is my favorite by a long shot. Skill, athleticism, scores matter, anyone can be a hero on any given night, personality.....basketball I thinkt is fast becomeing the worlds second favorite sport.

Soccer highlights are awesome. Hollands way with the ball yesterday was amazing to see. But this is the world cup. I will watch the basmitton championships of the world just to see the best of the best compete against each other. Its the other 3.8 years I have a hard time watching.

recently had a discussion with a surgeon who said jw parents "usually" (her word, not mine) privately say they will take blood if the provider gets a court order.. yet another person, with no connection to dubs and no motive to make this up, saying this same thing.

interesting.. i'm surprised the thought police have not come out with an article saying jehoopla reads the hearts and judges as bloodguilty those who are relieved when forced to take blood..

Hey vidiot. Thats right I seem to remember Barbara sharing that before. I believe that is why the 2000 "almost everything is allowed" policy change came into effect. Basically they were saying.....this is the stuff they give you anyways, just take it.

How Naive.

The not disfellowshipping for blood thing is still fairly recent however (last 5 years), and it is NOT in print of course. It would make it appear it is now "ok".

have been out officially for 5 1/2 years.

i was the only one out of all my 4 other siblings that stayed with it.

baptized at 16 and felt the need to carry on the heritage that my mom gave me to do.

Wow. Welcome. I was also in ASL on the West Coast. I may know or have met your husband. Its a pretty small community within a pretty small community.

It is inspiring to hear your story. Its so funny to think of three guys getting together to talk to a 35 year old about chaperoneing.

i use to hate when people who made goodbye posts on message boards.

why would they think that just because you no longer post on a chevy truck forum or a los angeles lakers forum the world would crumble around those still left there.

One last thought....

With all the help you received here, how it helped your wife, settled your journey, and showed you that there were others like you while giving you the validation you need to be empowered......if those same people didn't stop in now and then and give back to the community that helped them, it might have been different.

I pop in mainly because I owe this board (in my mind).

When this came up with my wife, our doctor at a teaching hospital connected to a college, said "be very sure, because if you sign this we are not going to even have blood in the room. Too many times someone signs it, and then when it comes down to it and they need the blood, we are left scrambling to have the tools neccesary to provide care."

I told my wife to just let me make the decision.

JWfacts touched on something that has been told to me recently. Basically, at this point in time, blood issues in the hospital are VERY bad press for the branch. In addition, I have been flat told "we don't disfellowship for that anymore", by a circuit overseer. Of course the caveat is if it is well known or the person flaunts it.....but basically you can do it, and its like don't ask don't tell.

Memorial to cease?

i heard something about the memorial to cease soon.

not anything to do with jesus returning but rather that the number of folks partaking is increasing and the gb can't explain it since it should be decreasing or staying the same.. has anyone heard of this?

What you are hearing is a misunderstanding of something in a KM a month or so ago that made the casual refference to it being possible this is the last memorial of jeus Christ death before the end comes.

It was written in typical WT fashion. To make people excited and feel special while having total deniability.

I get the allure of soccer, and I have seen matches that are fun to watch. The more you watch, the more you understand. But I simply cannot dig the massive level of corruption, and the flopping. Sure the flops are in all spots (see NBA Finals), but they usually don't cost the game.

I love soccer HIGHLIGHTS. Defensive and offensive. But there is alot of "filler", and I REALLY have an issue with a game that can end 0-0 with no winner. Yes call me the typical American or whatever but come on.

Score 1-1....yay we both lose!

Soccer just like football in America, is about the ritual. Its about being a fan, watchign on Sunday, going out and mimicing your favorites on any grass field with just a ball needed........its more than that the sport.

I can't get into soccer. Is it because the USA isn't at the top of the heap? Nah. Of course I suppose that would help my interest.

No TARPS Allowed (or large umbrellas).

i've been absent a bit more than usual.. at qualcomm stadium, home of the chargers and the "special arrangement" with san diego which means they use the venue for free, you are not allowed to bring a tarp in the 80 degree sunshine, nor a large umbrella.. mercifully however, you may bring a small one person umbrella you can hold or perhaps vice to the seat, but if someone asks you to take it down, you are to oblige.

san diego is freaking out over this i can assure you.

Actually its a beutiful day today, but I know that convention is going to be a mess. Even at 80 degrees, its still no picnic to be sitting in the sun with no shade. Of course for the football game I would do it, but in a suit?

I never minded these conventions because I was a brother with stuff to do. So I got to walk around and feel important while not paying attention along with all the elders while moving food around or "attending". Who knows why you need a guy at every opening. Just in case apostates come in and disrupt!!!
