  Witnesses at Target

  is this happening anywhere else?

  i'm in southern california and the jw's are sitting outside target at least twice a week with a table set up.

  okay, when i was pioneering, this was a big no-no.

  at a local shopping centre in sydney with a large number of ex-PRC chinese australians, i have sometimes seen ethnic chns jws. with a table like stall, and a chns brother sitting behind trying to look official.

  but they have not been around for the past 2 or 3 years -- or, at least, i have not seen them.

  actually, the mormons are the most active in this shopping centre, all these mormon missionaries are apparently trained to speak chinese very well, and i guess it must be said that they are targeting the local chns much more professionally than the witnesses are.

  if i recall the (modern) history correctly, jews who thought they should have a 'homeland' began infiltrating palestine as far back as the 1930's.

  at first the local inhabitants (palestinians) welcomed them, jews and moslem palestinians lived as neighbours in peace (remember, it was a british protectorate)...

  more and more jews kept coming and after WW2 it became a flood. the jews began a war of terrorism on the british (the stern gang and others), and eventually won independence.

  at this stage you can just throw your hands in the air and shrug your shoulders and go get pissed, because i can't se an answer to these trouble, can you???????

  got more information recently.. brooklyn bethel is downsizing , bigtime.. first, they are moving a lot of printing out of brooklyn.

  and into "regional" branches, perhaps closer to where.

  the material is distributed.

  so i was at the 'memorial' last night (that's a whole other story) and i got into a converstaion with an elder afterwards.

  i asked him why no figure had been printed in our kingdom ministry for the number of uk partakers last year.

  (in 2000, the figure of 300 was given, down from 319 in 1999).

  two congregations joined together for the night in one building.

  i know that 'shock' at hearing the crunch...

  in a small (new) country congregation where i was once sent to pioneer, an interested woman, invited to attend, decided it was not too different to her church, and partook I(ugly witness term). you could hear the shock as she crunched the hard bread.

  we decided to report her partaking but with a footnote describing her circumstances.

  but!! it did get talked about for months...

  Memorial attendance down?

  last night 3 congregations met at the assembly hall for the memorial.

  there were just a little over 800 there which really surprised me.

  in past years every congregation around here usually had at least 300 in attendance.

  years ago (okie, decades ago!!!) we used to call the "only come to the memorial" attenders --- "memorial saints"!!

  in my first cong. we even had some who had been 'bible students' in russel's day.

  does anyone really care what active witnesses think of them?

  i ask, because on many of the ex-witness boards i see a lot of mention of what people think others say behind their back.

  personally, i hope the witnesses think i am the devil himself and fear me upon sight of me.
