there are so many.... i remember my exfather inlaw...ben regan, he was made an elder in newport r.i and that's enough to make you doubt the whole holy spirit thing right there.. i was sitting in his living room one sunday and the phone rings...some poor black sister just got the crap beat out of her and she was crying to him on the phone, she was looking for help.. ben said.
"well you must have done something really bad to make him so mad at you...i know but...what you need to do is just have another beer and forget the whole thing"....good by.. thank god must women are not putting up with this anymore, from their husbands or religions that really don't care about them.

An elder in a local congregation beat his wife and kids for years. He would stand the kids in the corner and beat them with a leather belt, then make them stand there for hours and hours.
At the meetings the children had to sit quietly even when the meeting was finished (not play with other kids). This guy was not DF'd and noone asked any questions for years.....until he decided to commit adultery and run off with the other woman. Then he was DF for that.
If he hadnt committed adultery he'd have still been an elder most likely.

i am new to this forum but the reason i joined is because im fed up.
the death of one of my wifes friends was the last straw.
she was a faithful sister who was loyal to her husband children and friends and they found her dead in her car about a month ago.

I knew a JW who did the exact same thing. He was a man in his 20's.
Unfortunately, this cult puts lots of guilt onto people. It also makes life almost unbearable if you want to leave.
I remember being JW and thinking that I was supposed to be "joyful" because a fruitage of God's holy spirit is "joy". If I wasn't joyful, I didn't have God's spirit! This leads to people pretending to be happy because they think they have to look happy in order to fit in in the congregation.
Suicide results from lack of all hope...and this cult, whilst not being directly responsible for someone's personal decisions, certainly contributes to maladjusted thinking.

my husband and i have very successfully faded for about 3 years.
we would dearly love my daughter and her husband to question and research the organization and find the truth for themselves.. they know we dont go anymore and have issues.
but its become a taboo subject with the s-i-l after a discussion about child abuse, where he made it obvious he didnt like the the org being "criticised".
It might be a good idea if you only promise to go to meetings once a week for a set number of weeks. The agreement would mean that they would also meet with you to discuss COC once a week for the same number of weeks.
