Believe it or not, something like this happened to me.

Years and years ago I was renting my first apartment after college. The place was cheap and even included furniture. A week later I was talking with a co-worker and I mentioned something about all the mail I was getting for the previous occupants and how I thought it was odd that they hadn't had their mail forwarded. Then I mentioned the name on the mail.

It turned out that the prior renters, husband and wife, had murdered their child by scalding it to death in what was now my shower. I confirmed the story shortly thereafter.

I wasn't really bothered by this. After all, I've been damaged many times by the living, but not yet even once by someone doing something after they've died.

so just about everybody here knows that russell had some sort of obsession with the pyramids, and his gravestone serves as that embarassing reminder to his false prophecy, shaped like a pyramid itself.

and this is why i found this image on a awake!

I found some books! What did you do with yours?

i knew i had some so i was looking in some boxes and found a few including the super deluxe nwt bible with the cross references.

on one hand i'm tempted to throw em all out, but on the other i feel like keeping them, maybe as some kind of demented memento.

on the other other hand it'd mean one fewer box cluttering up a closet.. what did you all do with your old err.. literature?

Show me the money

many accusations are made, freely and (imho) frivolously tossed about, regarding the monetary motivations for various and sundry wts policy/publication decisions.

i have myself made many such statements.. however, if i was pressed to provide evidence for any of these accusations, i would be embarrassingly empty-handed.. interpolations, insinuations, circumstantial evidence, et.

al., aside: what irrefutable evidence is there that the wts has ever made a change simply and solely because of financial considerations?.

Another big change from the days of my brief association in the early 1970s is the push for more donations. In the old days, there was just one donation box in a hall. Now there are three (according to some reports). In the old days, it was quite rare to see any appeal for donations in the literature; now they have glossy planned giving programs. Not even the dead are allowed peace; the WTBTS is doing its best to screw legitimate heirs by encouraging rewrites of wills.

The WTBTS wants POWER. And their definition of POWER is CONTROL and MONEY. And while they lust more for control than for money, they'll gladly take the latter whenever possible.

Honestly, I can't see how the judge could have been more lenient. The so-called mother effectively gave her kid a cocaine addiction. What's the regular penalty for giving crack to a minor? Five years in prison or thereabouts. Six months of birth control is a breeze.

What would I have done? Consider: The mother (and likely father as well if he could ever be identified) are putatively guilty of wrongful reproduction. People who do this and do it repeatedly are a danger to both their children and society as a whole. Because the taxpayers are going to get the bill for the children's food, housing, medical, and educational expenses, it just might as well be called a rape of the responsible by the irresponsible. Six months of birth control, or even six months of forced abstinence, is not a suitable deterrent. The parents are sexual predators with society as a whole being the victim, and society needs a defense.

I'd consider leniency for a first time offender, particularly if youthful. But for those that repeatedly produce children (especially drug addicted children) that they are unable to care for, then surgical sterilization is the best remedy.

One Minute After You Die?

we have various types of people on this board, some believers in god, others atheists, some agnostics, and others still jw's at heart.. in your opinion, what do you believe happens to a person one minute after they die?

how about if they are good or bad?.

About ten months ago I found myself unexpectedly stretched out on an operating room table at three in the morning after collapsing in a hospital emergency room. Naked, cold, and being stat prepped for cardiac surgery, I was told by the cardiologist that the various machines confirmed his guess that I was having a heart attack. (A "major myocardial infarct" in doctor-talk.)

For a brief, few moments it seemed to me that the surgical team was physically receding into the distance while somehow remaining the same size; a sort of optical illusion I'd never experienced before nor since. Other than that unusual visual perception, I believe that all of my (other) faculties were working normally. Certainly I had no problem feeling the invisible elephant that had decided to roost upon my chest.

I don't recalling experiencing much fear; mostly it was a sense of inconvenience (!) as in, "why now?" and "I still have things to do".

For background, I am an adult convert to Roman Catholicism from thirteen years ago and undoubtedly that has an effect on my, uh, expectations in this matter.

yesterday pm while on gabbly two jw's came into my shop (former customers) with an overheating problem.. they saw my other copy of coc.

i asked what can we do for you?

they both were staring at the book, i noticed the car was spewing steam and coolant.

Take the job, and tell them they'll have their car "soon". When they come to pick up the vehicle and after you take their money, inform them that you use the same definition of "soon" as does the WTBTS. As in, for a hundred years the Big A is coming "soon". If they don't like it, tell them to wait on Jehovah.
