What's the point of the Awake?
by Marilyn inadmittedly it's been a long time since i've read an awake and i can't remember much about what's in it but doesn't it contain a bunch of superficial articles with a general interest theme?
like a poor mans readers digest?
i was recently wondering what the purpose of the awake is?

Of course, the main reason for the existence of _Awake_ (the successor of (the _Golden Age_) is to make money for the WTBTS. In my very brief (two months) term in the field service, I was instructed to use it as something that could be pushed on householders who would otherwise not be interested in any obviously religious offerings.
If the WTBTS really wanted people to keep up to date with the _Awake_ and any other literature, they would post complete copies on the Web at the same time paper copies were produced. We will never see this or any other thing that will cut into the cash flowing into Brooklyn.

Latest KM Stats
by metatron inin november they got 966,528 pubs and 90,542 pioneers.. so, their exploitation of the wtc tragedy and 15 minute.
publisher policy has worked very well for them.. in december they got 968,126 publishers and 89,808 pioneers.
again, a big success in exploitation and 'paper' publishers.. i note that the pioneers dropped by 734 however.. maybe some more mass death will help.. metatron

The WTBTS can fool around with things like the 15 minute reports and emphasizing peak months while publishers can continue to fake and pad their FS reports and it really won't make much difference. The real statistics of interest are the baptisms per publisher rates. These are what most accurately predict growth and decline. And these are the figures which have seen a continuous worldwide decline since about 1995, and there is no sign of this decline going away. Even countries like Mexico and Russia are seeing this, and that's what has the WTBTS elite really worried.
I predict another four years until total publishers starts its final decline, but even now the decline in baptisms, particularly in the developed nations, must really be hurting the WTBTS cash flow. Think about it: each new baptism means a whole chunk of WTBTS books sold to the sorry soul who just bought into the publishing cult. It is possible that many new baptized persons buy more WTBTS literature for themselves in their first year than they will ever place in field service. When these baptism numbers go down, so does the total cash heading towards Brooklyn.
While the 15 minute reporting may increase some numbers for one year, it will do nothing to affect the long term trend. Indeed, it may hasten the decline if enough JWs recognize it for the statistical sleaze that it is.

Last night's meeting
by RunningMan inmy son had a talk last night, so i had the priviledge of trudging off to another meeting.
the bible section being considered at the present time is isaiah 19-26. much to my surprize, i learned that the society is prefigured in at least two places in these few chapters.
they consider themselves the "watchman" class, as well as the "eliakim" class, with the poor old clergy of christendom relegated to the mere "shebna" class.. this correspondance of the society to virtually everything in the bible is getting sickening already.

now during our dub years we didn't pay that much attention (or claimed we didn't hehe)to the history of our presidents.
but i was curious as to who you guys think our best all-time president was.

The problem with ranking the US presidents is that the ones of recent memory often do not yet have enough post-office historical analysis and are instead judged on popularity. That being said, here is my list:
1. Abraham Lincoln: If you've read his biographies, you'll see that he was possibly the most moral person to serve in the office inspite of mutiple personal difficulties like manic depression and Murfan's (sp?) syndrome. His Emancipation Proclimation and his inspiring delegation of authority to the Union generals during the hardest phase on US history are the great things of like may never happen again.
2. George Washington: His two terms in office helped keep the country together even though there was a great deal of dissent among those who helped in the battle of independence. Perhaps Washington's greatest exploits came in the fourteen years (1775-1789) before he took office; it was that long before the US constitution was adopted and it may never have come about without old George.
3. Harry Truman: Undoubtably the best president who first took office unelected. He was an honest, straight talking man who had no concern for his own glory, wealth, or popularity. He showed great courage in his used of atomic weapons to end the war with Imperial Japan and perhaps greater courage in firing Douglas MacArthur (extremely popular at the time) for insubordination.
4. Ronald Reagan: He was exactly what the country and the world needed in 1981. The US was suffering from a very poor economy, federal intervention was nearly out of control, no real let-up from the malaise declared by his predecessor, and a general lack of respect from allies and adversaries abroad. Congress had been improperly using its power over the country due to the weakened state of the executive branch since Watergate seven years earlier. The first six years of his presidency were outstanding in what he achieved; alas, the last two years were not so bright as he then had failures due to overconfidence in some of his underlings: not just North and Poindexter, but VP George Bush as well as the head of the National Security Council.
5. Franklin Roosevelt: He was great, but not for his plethora of depression era programs that barely passed constitutional muster (some didn't), but rather for his leadership in World War II.
----------------
And second from last:
41: Bill Clinton: Perhaps the sleaziest character to hold the office based on his personal conduct. Books and books have been written about his misconduct (and his wife's) before and during his administration. The only elected president ever to be impeached, his pardons from his last day in office would, in a just world, be enough to put him in jail for the rest of his life.
-----------------
And the worst:
42: Richard Nixon: His arrogance and his subversion of the constitution were so extensive that neither is matched by any other president.

by Skimmer inwhat will you do on the last day?

Hello Heaven:
You have my sincere condolences as do all the others who've lost family and friends to the demonic WTBTS prohibitions on vaccinations, transplants, and transfusions.
Alas, when the WTBTS crashes, it will crash very hard as it has become used to living so very well at the expense of its slaves. So there is unlikely to be much available in assets for any of its victims.

Yardif, it has long been plain to anyone whose read your posts and your can't-let-go-of-the-WTBTS attitude is that you're one of the biggest hypocrites on this board.

Hello Outlaw:
Yes, the only safe bet is a bet against the WTBTS prediction schemes. They have a perfect record. Perfectly wrong, that is.
It's the WTBTS that will someday be too broke to have a pot to piss in. But at least they'll have plenty of toilet paper as these bound volumes of the _Watchtower_ and _Awake_ are good for something.
Another of my predictions:
2011: WTBTS membership goes below 1/4 of peak and continues to decline; start of real estate liquidation to get cash for operating expenses.

Well, Lefty, I actually think I was overgenerous in my suggestion for the bathroom usage of Freddie Franz' remains. It is really far more than he deserves given the amount of suffering caused by the many decades of his theological leadership of the WTBTS.
