dont blame the witnesses, its the bible's fault.. well you can blame them for trying to stick to the thing, but belief in the bible is the main problem.. i've heard the gb and witnesses be called evil by some, as though they have gone out to hurt people on purpose.. but i doubt that this is true, at least in recent times.. no the problem comes from believing the bible is god's word and trying to interpret it and follow it.. what happens when you do so?.
you get the catholic inquisition,people burnt at the stake,you get jews fighting for a promised land, religious groups who let their children die and a host of other problems.. i ask a question.if you were god and were going to have a book written on how man should live, would you do it in such a way that if misinterpeted or taken too literaly or mistranslated slightly , could result in the death and suffering of thousands of people,and would enslave people to false religious beliefs?.
yes there are good points and principles in the bible, mainly the words of jesus, who didn't write any of it himself.. but a few good principles don,t outweight the bad done in the name of the bible through the past 2000 years.. the society has tried to follow the bible, and take it for real .in doing so they have had to take on beliefs and ideas that can ultimatly cause harm.. it is like me reading a instruction manuel for my car, that is a fake written by a non-expert.if i follow that manuel , although it may not be all wrong, some instuctions could be in error and cause damage to my car and risk injury to other people.. if people then come along after and say "well its not the manuel thats wrong , you've just misunderstood it , look if you do it this way,that way..".
And to other people yours is a "perverse interpretation " of the bible. Do you have the original texts?Do you know the people who wrote it? Can you pove it is the word of god? Why is your interpetation better than other peoples?
You say we carn't use human logic to judge what a God would or wouldn't do , but if we carn't use logic then how do we work anything out at all. At one point you talk of huamn laws of logic such as maths being right , then say we carn't use logic to judge whether it makes sense that God wrote the Bible in such a way that most religions who believe they are following it have done bad things.
If I carnt use my logic on that issue why use it anyware else?
i had one letter about 9 months ago while i was still going to the meetings warning me about apostate tendancies.. then a phone call from another friend just after christmas telling me he couldn't see be any more.. this has been the extent of my former friends encouragement to get me to see the errror of my ways and come back to the fold.. none of these people see me any more.. none of these people have made any effort what so ever to get me back!.
i'm thinking of phoning some up and asking them "why?".
It supprises me that I'm annoyed. I think there may be fear on their part to. I'm not sure if it means they weren't real friends, just that their heads have been messed with by the society.
It frustrates me that if I phone them and discuss my issues I could get disfellowshipped for spreading apostacy.So I hold back from doing so. This means I have never had a chance to present my side of the story.If I try to do it now it could prove conterproductive .

Why have they let a former friend one whom they have known and grown up with , shared problems had good and bad times, even stopping one of his friends from committing suicide, helping them through depression , sharing with them in the ministry enjoying their company and everything else, why have they not contacted me or tried to help me in any way? Have they spent time on the ministry, going to meetings? I bet they have.But when it came to one of their friends questioning the "truth" they now treat him as dead even though he is not disfellowshipped.

... on the news yesterday they announced that president bush had made a statement regarding the elections in zimbabwe, that they were 'severely flawed' or something, and that the result shouldn't stand.
this caused her much amusement.

The point is people interperate the bible in different ways , and can get different things out of it. Jehovahs witnesess will let children die. Jews will fight for their promised land. Catholics stole countries from the native people. All belived they were following the Bible. What is right to one religion is wrong to another. Why have a book that causes so much confusion? Do you not know that these people really belive they are following the Bible?
if you read my post's you may have noticed i'm not the best at spelling.. i think i could be dyslexic, my father and one of my sisters are, and i tend to make the same mistakes.. also i havent had the need to do much writing since i left school so i'm out of practise.. i believe i'm getting in better, at least i hope so .. anyway the point is this.i once had a discusson with a brother about spelling.he believed there was a correct absolute standard for spelling words, which was the oxford dictionary.. the way it was spelt there is the way to spell it.. if they changed the spelling you should change.. but i feel things like spelling are not absolute.of course people need to understand what we write.but i feel small changes to words to make them fit more inline with how we say them would be benifical.. what is the point of having a word spelt a different way to how it is said?.
