Me and my wife are quite lucky, well I am actually as my wifes mother is quite well off, her father is now dead and she was their only daughter .
My wife is french and acording to french law all her dads propeties were split evenly between her and her mother. Due to this at age 27 now our house is almost paid off.She hasn't taken a share obviously in the house her mother lives in but has a right to half of it.Of course she will inherit all of it.
But I havent any savings( I did but just had to pay my tax).I don't like relying on my wifes mother for support. But to make good use of my situation I plan to buy another property (as our morgage is low)and rent it out to pay the morgage on it.When that is paid off in about 20 years I'll have the income from rent or I could sell the house for capital or even use the rent to by another house.
As far as I know I'll get the smallest pension possible if I rely on the goverment and pension schemes don't offer the same return as property in Britian.
Also you can not have access to all your pension capital when you retire in Britian at the moment but are only allowed a lump sum and an allowence from your capital each month.
My wife has a pension.
But who knows what will happen in the future , you never know It could all go pear shaped and I could end up in the gutter.

What is your ex-JW retirement plan?
by Mindchild ini have been talking to a few people in chat recently about retirement strategies for ex-dubs.
it doesnt take a rocket scientist to realize that many people who exit the borg are really in a very poor situation in terms of their retirement prospects.
if it wasnt bad enough that there was always the pressure to avoid higher education and the corresponding quality jobs afforded by such, many dubs were just plain conned out of their resources by the borg in thinking that the end was just around the corner and you should pioneer, even if it meant selling your assets, going into debt, or turning down good job opportunities.

My main hobby is music and I'm intrested in the quality reprodution of it.
I've learnt a lot about hifi and stuff and would like to open a shop that caters for people with large record collections by selling quality record player and styluses so that they will be able to keep spinning the black stuff well into the end of this centuary.
More people are intrested in convenience nowadays than quality which is a shame as good quality music reprodution can enhance your musical pleaure greatly.
In the town where I live there is a great record shop that still stocks all new releases on vinyl anyone still intrested in buying records should contact www.Diverse-music.co.uk -

Welcome to the test your morality post.
This one of the worlds tests and has been compialed by one of the worlds greatest scientific minds.
Unfortunatly I've lost that test so here is my own.You and group of friends/workmates have a lottery sydicate going.
Every week you each have personnal set of numbers that you enter if any of those numbers comes up you share the winnings.
You take it in turns to go to the shop to by the tickets.
Here are your dilemas.1.One week a work mate/friend is ill or on holiday (Or something happens that makes it impossible for them to pay)and cannot to pay for their ticket.Your sydicate wins.
Do you share the prize with him?2.One week a work mate forgets to pay his share.
Do you share the prize with him?3.One week the person who elected to by the tickets forgets .One of the numbers comes up.
Do you forgive them?4.One week your particular number comes up.You have had to pay for everyone that week as they were all out of money (and are going to pay you back next week)although they all had enought money to go out drinking that night.
Do you keep the winnings for your self? -

Would you employ a witness?
by sleepy inlets get all hypothetical.
lets imagine you are starting or have a business and you need an accountant.. one of your main concerns is their honesty.. you interview some potential employees.. they have very similar qualifications and experience.. the only difference is their religious beliefs.. person 1 is a catholic.. person 2 a moslem.. person 3 an atheist.. person 4 jehovah's witness.
(imagine you are not disfellowshiped so they wont shun you).

Dazed,
"If I were not a JW and looking........the first person I would look for is a JW type."I believe a lot of employers would also.I was hired once partly because I was a witness. The boss told me he respected witnesses as he saw hypocracy in other religions.Little did he know.
English,
When I was in school I was a terrible student.Always getting into trouble. It was a good thing most teachers didn't know I was a witness.
By biggest problem was that I didn't think I needed an education as armageddon was so close.(Idiot)
I started of with straight A's and some of the best results in the school I finished school with alomost no qualifications. -

Secret agents in the society?
by sleepy ini've just mentioned on another thread how in russia secret agents managed to get into high postions of authority in the society there in order to keep a watch on what they were doing.. i believe this has happened in other countries to.. so how about this, do the british and american goverments have infiltraitors in the society to keep a watch on them?.
it seems an obvious thing to do if you are in power, you somehow need to keep track of what fringe groups are doing.. could they even be high up in the org if they are there?.
there was an article in one of the newspapers this week that claimed over 1000 organisations in britian are involved in secret obsevations of individuals and groups for various reasons.. it seems possible that they would want to keep tabs on groups like the witnesses.. what do you think?

Amazing
I wasn't necessarily thinking of large scale operations such as with terrorist organisations.
Maybe people who are already witnesses and turned week in the truth are asked information.
Anyway like I first mentioned a government report, quoted in the newspaper last week said over 1000 organisations had permission to gather secret information by use of surveillance.
Even such organisations as the even post office have the power to do so if necessary. -

I recently read an article on how the government has kept tabs on groups like the IRA.
Basically they need insiders. If they can not get anyone to turn traitor they have to use secret agents who join the group they are investigating.
Often in order to join dissident organisations these people will have to prove their loyalty.
This will sometimes involve doing hits or setting them up ,for the organisation they are going to be part of.
There is a great moral dilemma involved. Is it right to carry out acts of terrorism in hope of preventing further attacks?
This dilemma has often prevented agents from infiltrating terrorist groups. This was talked about a lot after the 11Sept attacks as a reason why the Americans did not have enough inside information on the terrorists. They had not in recent years been willing to take innocent lives in order to gain the trust of these underground organizations.Even ona smaller scale agencies like Mi5 and other certainly do gather secret information on suspect people and groups. This is their purpose.
It is naive to think that only the Russians would go to extreme lengths in order to find out valuable information.
Although in modern times surveillance is more likely to be used their is always the possibility that there are inside informers. -

Apparently this has been done before.
I remmember reading watchtower articles about Russia.
They claimed that russian secret service agents infiltrated the society and event got to postions of high authority before they were found out.
In fact it wouldn't supprise me if various countries had agents in the witness comunity now.
