Yeah, it's a new presentation but the same old information. Their message is tired and stale.

Did Jesus lie about his generation?
by Anony Mous inwe all know the scripture where jesus says 'this generation will by no means pass away before the end will come'.
the jw interpret this as the destruction of the jewish state in jerusalem by the romans and the dispersal of the jewish people.
however, while researching the history of judea, i come across various facts about the region.. so jesus died about 30ce and his disciples were likewise well in their thirties or older, the 'generation' by definition would've lasted until ~50ce (the time during which children are born and raised to have children of their own).

Probably the prophecy appears to have come true because it was written after the fact, after the Jewish war. You're also assuming Jesus and his apostles existed.

Phone-witnessing conversation
by Anony Mous injust got called by a lovely elder(ly) woman trying to get a conversation started about the state of affairs in the world and if it is ever going to get better (this introduction is so old, this came straight from the old 1980's brown book of conversation starters).
at first i asked whether she was a telemarketer, no, she is a "bible student".
i hadn't heard that in a while, so i asked her what denomination, she kind of struggled and quietly said i'm one of jehovah's witnesses - the embarrassment was palpable.. so i said, oh, i'm one of jehovah's witnesses too!

Degree of Effectiveness of JW Letter Writing Form of Witnessing
by Disillusioned JW ina newspaper article quotes a jw as saying "every (letter) i put in the mailbox, i feel, 'ah, this could reach somebody.
'" the article also quotes her as saying "we are accomplishing even more now than we were door-to-door because this way everybody in the house gets a chance to pick up that letter and respond to it.
it just feels good.

I doubt letters reach more people than the door-to-door "work" did. It's too impersonal and that's something Witnesses used to provide lonely people: community.

Have You Been “Gaslit”?
by minimus ingaslighting is a form of sustained manipulation that causes the victim to question or doubt their sanity, judgment and memories.
it’s a form of emotional abuse.
i think jehovah’s witnesses have been gaslit.

Biahi, great example of gaslighting. Knorr blamed the victim of his own false prophecies.

There's certainly hints of gaslighting in the Governing Body's historical revisionism. Pointing, teasing, suggesting certain dates for Armageddon, then later saying they never said that. Yeah, I see your point.

Praying for others?
by pixel ini’m looking for an article, from the watchtower, where it says that we should not pray for other members from the stage.
does anyone remember an article saying this?.

Do you still debate with JWs?
by punkofnice ini was talking to an ex-jw.
not been out as long as i have.. cut a long story short, i came to realise that i can no longer be bothered to debate jws if (on the rare occasion), i have encountered them.. i think that because i am somewhere circling a nihilistic atheist it seems pointless.
i just don't have the energy because i rarely even think about jw related garbage.

In my experience, if you can find a JW who will debate as opposed to run, they get very angry very quick. Not quite hostile, but aggressive and the conversation picks up speed and it's hard to slow it down.
