I think it is in another topic. They now believe that those who are alive when the great tribulation begins will have the option to accept the truth and be saved, even if they rejected the preaching message before. In the past, they stated that the preaching work was of paramount importance because once the great tribulation began, salvation was no longer on offer. Which is why they taught that there would come a time when the preaching message would change from an offer to a condemnation.

I'm assuming this means that they no longer expect to preach a message of doom just prior to the end. Especially when they appear to have de-emphasized the importance of such work by reducing the reporting requirements for most of the rank and file.

Yeah, really. I agree that it's embarrassing. You cannot help but get the impression that Jehovah has been pranking them all this time. "This new light completely invalidates decades of teachings! If you were disfellowshipped as an apostate, it turns out you were right! But you're still an apostate! Clearly, we can see how Jehovah guides us through his holy spirit! Please keep obeying! Please keep giving generously!"

Thanks, pepperheart2. There are a few topics discussing the recent news from the WTS, I think I made similar comments in those. Good topics! And, as is being pointed out by others, a pretty big topic for JWs and exJWs, yet Evans can only dedicate a few minutes to it.

I have to say, I think his video is so short because he's not really paying attention to the WTS. You would think that Evans, of all people, would have a LOT to say about these recent changes and what they might mean for the organization. I don't think he can be bothered anymore. He got comfortable with other people doing the behind-the-scenes work. He probably thinks that researching the matter himself is beneath him.

just a good conversation at home about the hour report change.. we think the change was not impmemented because the gb are such a lovely bunch of old grandpa's having the best in mind for us individuals.. there will be only, and we say only, an organizational reason for it.

a legal reason, to protect jw.org and it's officials and wealth.. next step?

maybe selling more kh and when jw hollywood studio's in rampoo are ready a change to tv subscription.. what do you think?

It can increase the total of active publishers, yes. And since they only will report the hours of pioneers, they can show a "per person" monthly total that is much higher than it was in the past. A sort of creative bookkeeping, where you no longer record the numbers that drag down the averages.

Maybe that is why they appear to have changed the belief regarding salvation. If these changes mean fewer people hear the good news, they won't be doomed because they can repent at the last moment and be saved.

I'm amazed at any changes that subvert the sense of urgency that they have preached for more than 100 years.

revelation 21:2 i also saw the holy city, new jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from god and prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.. hebrews 11:10 for he (abraham) was awaiting the city having real foundations, whose designer and builder is god.. revelation 21:24 and the nations will walk by means of its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.. revelation 22:1 and he showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, flowing out from the throne of god and of the lamb 2 down the middle of its main street (of the holy city).

Yes, it's tougher to keep people shielded from the WTS's past. When you can show someone the org's own words in its own publications, it is a real test for them.

The WTS argument seems to be that they did not provide facilities where such abuse could have occurred, so they cannot be a part of the inquiry.

That's not what the inquiry is about, is it? I assume it's the same as the ones in different countries, where they are saying that the WTS did not do enough to protect children from such predators, or do enough when they learned of such abuse. This is not the same as saying they are liable because abuse happened in facilities they managed or controlled.

It is a bad look for them.

looks like we can expect a kinder, gentler jehovah and jesus during the great tribulation.

the door will not be closed to all non jws at the start of the tribulation.

but will have time to repent after false religion is destroyed.

Making the religion less onerous might help get more people to join. But at the same time, if you're offering nothing and leaving the door open to a last-second conversion, what reason would anyone have to join?

For the rank and file, there is the sudden realization that, after a century of promoting the door-to-door work as critical and a lifesaving effort... it didn't really matter. All that matters is signing on at the very end. Makes for a nicer god, but not a very profitable religion.

The change they made in the 1990s with literature might have started them on the path that they find themselves on now. I think a major reason for these changes is the decrease in income, which wasn't a problem when they were 'placing' millions of books and magazines and receiving payment for each one.

They could afford to advise the rank and file to eschew higher education and better-paying jobs when they could raise money from literature sales. And it was simple greed that ended the practice; they didn't want to pay taxes on literature sales, so they figured they could dump the responsibility on the individual publishers and get around it. That did not turn out the way they hoped.

Now they are looking to open the doors in the hopes that people will join and provide a quickly-growing base from which to collect donations. I don't think that will go very well for them, but it should be interesting to watch.

Hmm, I'm looking at my analysis in light of the topic we are in, and it almost seems an appropriate comparison. Make bad decisions based on personal desires, and watch as things start to fall apart...
