Conversation with my Dad today concerning the Leah Remini show
by joe134cd injoe : i don’t quite know how to tell you this dad.
dad : what daughter .
joe : dont get mad or offensive, but there was a documentary that aired a few nights ago on prime time tv in the usa concerning the jws, and there was some very nasty stuff mentioned, and it certainly wasn’t positive toward the organisation.

Cart Witnessing along with dramas on the big screen?
by Tahoe inhttps://youtu.be/f40ukvgjsqw.
is it the first of april already?.

Being a Witness used to require some actual knowledge and personal skill in talking people. Now you just need to be able to set up a cart and a video screen then stand next to it.

Can you ever see a time when Govt`s of this world will attempt to abolish all religions ?
by smiddy3 inwe are now in the 21st century of our common era with its insights into the potential of what can be achieved in the near future to benefit mankind for years to come .. the co-operation of governments around the world on so many levels has never been better than it is today and it is at least encouraging to see this .. whether it has to do with the climate , the environment ,food production ,safe water for all ,and the better health for all in the near future, and in the future space exploration.
however the problem today is still religion !
in its many extreme forms that divides us in no ways that politics divide us .. politicians learn how to compromise and work with their opponents for the greater good ,whereas religions don`t.. religions divide humans like no politicians ever did well not to the extremes religions will go anyway.. is their going to come a time in history when governments politicians say enough is enough and try attempt to abolish religion ?.

I certainly hope not. That would be terrible because only a totalitarian nightmare of a government would do such a thing.
I'd much prefer that as a species we outgrow our childish need to believe in superstitions, myths and lies and embrace reality for what it is, or at least as much as we can know it.
If and when this happens, then religions would just naturally fade away and then eventually die out. This trend is already occurring in many Westernized societies as a result of education.
Here's a link to a not-too-recent article about this very phenomenon:

It feels really odd
by Tameria2001 ini was searching through the net and i came across something i was not expecting to see.
i just found out that my cousin passed away at the age of 34, in 2014, and no one even bothered to tell me this news.

Movies that make you cry?
by new boy inthere have been many but i had a total melt down at the end of sophie's choice.
i hadn't cried in years before i saw that movie in in 1982. i was still very much a jw at the time.
i have no idea where the pain and sorrow came from, maybe it was the fact there are things people have gone through that we have defied all reason logic.

I too am sorry for your loss, not just of your cousin, but of everything else you have lost as a result of mistreatment by uncaring and uncompassionate family members.
Further proof they are in a cult.

Elders' new direction.
by lastmanstanding inthere's been a change.
a rather big one.
and the kevin bunkers of the world beware.. jw elders no longer need to "turn the other cheek".. in the governing bastard's desperation, they have given a new directive to elders.

Violence begets violence.
Just stay away from Kingdom Halls and enjoy your life. It’s not like going there with an “apostate” message or purpose will ever change any of them.
Hundreds of people have tried that and—to my knowledge—it has never, ever worked. Not once. If anyone has evidence, or even just an anecdote, to the contrary, I’d love to know about it.
Let’s review: It’s a cult!

I've always really loved Elmer Bernstein's score for To Kill a Mockingbird.
A very different, but also amazing score is the one he composed for The Magnificent Seven.
I'm also a big fan of Jerry Goldsmith's percussive style of writing, particular for film like Planet of the Apes.
And of course pretty much anything John Williams does is fantastic. I was recently listening to his work on Hook. Really great writing!

The paranormal.
by Lost in the fog ini know that a lot of the people on here have turned their backs on the idea of a deity deciding that god does not exist.
but what about the unseen spirit world generally such as poltergeists, jinns, voodoo, etc.
if you have become agnostic, atheist, or just don't care since leaving, do you think that there are spirits out there or have you decided that is also hokum?
-
jp1692
The word "paranormal" can include many things, everything from: ghosts and witches to clairvoyance and telekinesis.
Any attempts at rational discussion about the subject needs to make these important distinctions. Conflating different individual ideas and/or beliefs and then trying to draw conclusions about them as a group is one of the many logical fallacies that we all were fooled by when we were in the WT cult. For example, consider how often WT publications would include the phrase, "Jehovah and his organization," in order to induce us to associate the two so strongly that in the average JW's mind they are one and the same, inseparable. It's this kind of "bait and switch" that gets otherwise rational people to blindly and uncritically accept any- and everything the organization says as if it is coming from God himself.
Here is a thought-provoking article on the subject of extra-sensory perception (ESP):
If you read and carefully think about the arguments made in this article, you'll realize that the title is actually kind of misleading. But it does bring up some really interesting points about how easily we as humans can be mislead and how we generally interpret events and data to confirm our existing beliefs and desires.
