I don't get mine on line..too afraid of what I will get. I think if you belong to a senior group possibly they could offer some help . I too take plavix and it is expensive if you don't have prescription coverage..I go through a mail order service and save that way. It is one my insurance offers so I feel safe using it. It used to save me a lot more than it does now though..seems like they are raising their prices to almost what the local pharmacies are charging. I have to really shop around as I go in the gap towards the fall of the year and have to foot the entire bill myself.
You just have to take a day and call all the pharmacies and compare.
The good news is that Plavis is finally going generic in November this year..Yahoo!..that means you will be able to get the generic probably for $10. at your local discount store..compared to the $535. they now charge..
One good point about medicare is the slowly closing of the prescription gap means it will only be half price for us seniors that go in the gap this year..
The bad news is that many pharmacies have raised the price of these drug by at least 1/3 to 1/2 of their cost compared to last year..I am sure it was in anticipation of the closing of the gap..
Snoozy who trys to get generic if at all possible!
ps..At this time there is NO generic for Plavix! (At least in the states and Canada)
Generic Availability
The generic drug name for Plavix is clopidogrel bisulfate. While generic clopidogrel is produced in some countries such as India, sales of the generic drug are blocked in the United States due to patent protection.
Patent Protection
In June of 2007, a United States judge upheld the Plavix patent, blocking Canadian pharmaceutical company Apotex from producing generic clopidogrel. The U.S. patent protection for Plavix will not expire until November of 2011.
