OK CC I looked up waht you are taking. And yes it is similar to plavix! The difference is that it is a vasodilator and Plavix isn't. What gets me on looking it up is I am also on a pill that dilates the blood vessels besides the plavis. The also recommend the Aggrenox for people that have had a stroke because of that...I also didn't see it being available as a generic but did say that you can take persantine and a aispirin 3 times a day and it is the same thing. Don't know th eprice of persantine tho. It may be cheaper, you could look into that.
If not for the fact that Plavix is going generic I think I would switch..
This is the info I found on the difference between the two...

I had 2 stents put in and I read they usually take you off the plavix after a while as it is only to prevent any clots from forming from rejection of the stent..but my Dr hasn't said anything about it as yet and it has been over two years..some Drs keep you on it.
Snoozy..isn't this fun?...
ps..I wasn't too happy about reading this:
As of 2009, Aggrenox has not had any FDA issued drug alerts since its approval in 2001.
Since Plavix's FDA approval in November 1997, there have been two major FDA Drug Alerts. In April 2005, the FDA issued a warning for the risk of developing a rare blood disease called TTP (thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura) which essentially causes tiny blood clots to develop throughout the body. Ironically, the development of that condition, the clotting, is what the drug is supposed to prevent. In August 2006 the FDA issued yet another alert reiterating the potential for developing TTP.
