Interesting topic.

Here in US there is a new bill making it a crime to harm a fetus in a violent act, as if it were a full person. The pro-choicers are outraged....even though the bill explicitly excludes abortion from it. Abortion sympathizers just cant seem to face up to a pre-born human as an actual person.

I am a solid Libertarian...and am pro-choice on most everything....except abortion. A parent does NOT have the right to 'choose' to kill their children. Abortion is agression. Roe v Wade was wrong. If there is to be any sort of compromise on when life actually starts....I would say that abortion would be outright murder if there are detectable brain-waves present.

Reminds me of Ray Franz's comments about how depressing it is that champions of religious freedoms always fall into the repeat pattern of becoming opressors themselves.

Anyways...thanx for the Jeffferson quotes. He is one of my favorite founding fathers. If only he woulda pushed harder for emancipation. Still...he was a very enlightened man.

Which Doctrine Convinced You That This Wasn't Right

what wt doctrine convinced or made you doubt your faith in the wtbts?

for me it was the 144,000 and the nature of christ's resurrection.

i seriously could not believe that there were two classes of christians when it was not stated implicitly in the bible, but was expected to be believed in as absolute truth.

For me...the first doctrine I disproved for myself was the 607 chronology. It was like a house of cards after that. The blood doctrine was what got me kicked out though.

I remember reading somewhere about Tim LaHaye and Jenkins have certain biblical prophetic chronologies that parralel adventist/JW thought. They hold to the erroneous date of 606 or 607 for the fall of Jerusalem and figure it into their calculations. I personally would not trust a word from people who hold those chronological theories, but their books may be decent entertainment.

ive been on other sites, and i am a disfellowshipped witness dropping in to say hi, wanted to say that i have noticed that there have been 30 more anointed that have bit the cracker...and drunk the wine .anyone know how the gb is explaining this one?

thought the numbers would be going down , from how i was taught.....is the gb hoping no one will notice this , or will they be sending assassins to help lower that number?.

I remember a talk i gave some years ago about the number of annointed going down. During my research I actually came upon figures that showed that some years the numbers increased. I ignored those figures as not being applicable to the theme of the talk. This is one of those episodes I look back on and am struck in the face with the realization that I was working under the influence of mind control.

for those who "grew up in the borg"

at this late, middle stage of my life, i've started wondering, now that i know what i know, about the things in my life that i "lived" with.

having been raised all my life in the "borg" i have known nothing else.

when questions began forming years ago, it started me thinking.

Hehee..yea I grew up in the borg too. My hero is 7of9 who also had to struggle with leaving what she was raised in.

My world-view has changed drasticcally, but I still feel like I am the same person. My moral and ethical values are still rather modest and conservative. I guess I am not like that story of the spring that gets let go of too fast and goes wild.

One thing about me now is that ive become rather withdrawn and hermitlike. I used to be in the center of the social circle in my KH, but now Ive got used to being alone.

Its hard to say what has affected me so much being raised a JW because I got no real frame of reference for what it would be like if I wasnt a JW growing up. aw heck...I guess Im a basket-case for life ! ;-) lol

here are a few notes i took at the friday session of the 2001 "teachers of god's word" district convention.

i thought i would share these upbuilding theocratic point with my new friends, along with my thoughts as i was listening to the program.

1st instruction of the day: sing loudly and listen to the prayer!

I dont think I'l be attending this year. Last time I went to the Cow Palace assembly to take notes they assigned 4 watchmen to follow me the whole day and placed 14 watchmen around the stage at closing song and prayer. They falsely insinuated that i was there to pass out "literature" even though I had not a shred of anti-WT lit on me. I was absolutely amazed at how paranoid they were. And to think I used to be a watchman! LOL

i am a df'd person hoping to return to the fold.

i am not critical of the decision to df me nor of the loving organization i believe to be in the palm of jesus hand.. i would find it most encouraging to hear from others who feel the same and would like to "hold hands" on the way back.. this board is hailed as a supportive respectful place so if you do not fit this description may i ask you to move on and not hinder the participants here in following their god given right to pursue their goal.

Thanx for the lucid answer. Its good to se that you have done your homework. There are plenty of DFd ones who go back without ever really asking themselves the important questions about the validity of the whole sect. I agree with you too that there are PLENTY of critics who appear to have no idea what they are talking about, or are just plain crazy. I just shake at my head at some of the argumentation used by many dogmatticcally trinitarian JW critics.

Nevertheless, it seems our paths of research have led us to opposite directions. If you are convinced in your decision, then godspeed to you! Dont think there arent times when I wish the events that led to my ousting never happened. I actually enjoyed being a JW, and didnt experience some of the nightmares that others have. I enjoyed being an MS in a warm and loving congregation. But there is no way I could go back now, even for just the social aspect. I simply do not believe them anymore and I refuse to live my life pretending to believe them.
But I respect your decision because you have put in the effort to know for yourself. All I ask is that, when you get back in, please be a part of the solution...not of the problem. I think you know what I mean.
