I hated going to the meetings and expressed my disgust at the ripe old age of 4------a meeting was canceled because of the snow, I overheard my mom talking to someone on the phone about it, I muttered out loud "good!" She scolded me "how dare you talk about Jehovah like that! aren't you ashamed of yourself??" then came the forced "My Book of Bible Stories" and "School and Jehovah's Witnesses" studies, which I also abhorred. as I got older, I was always expected to answer at the meetings, no matter what. I got elbowed in the ribs very hard if I didn't raise my hand after each question. One day I got very irritated and as a quick reaction struck back with my elbow, hitting my mom in her ribs. She never elbowed me again after that. I would say that, yeah, being forced to go to meetings as a child makes you hate anything that has to do with religion.

Your going to the meetings whether you like it or not!
by Atlantis inyour going to the meetings whether you like it or not!
thousands of jehovah's witness children have heard those threatening words backed-up with spankings, whippings, or even severe beatings.
but what if they are too small to understand?

I did the exact same thing that bikerchic did. I got my results to over 200 questions plus the strong interest inventory from a testing center in WA. Anyhow, I'm an ENTJ.

Wheelchair or not, had that ahole said that to me no doubt he would end up wearing my pizza slice. Maybe some soda too, and that would make him a "mojado." Boludo is the perfect way to describe him.........

Why is it so hard for people to be kind ?
by oldflame inrecently i have noticed a difference in peoples attitude towards others.
i remember the day when others would open the door for you or smile when they look at you.
i remember the day when you were merging onto traffic and people would let you in.

Why I left Islam
by Elsewhere inclose to that time, my father decided to go back to our country of origin.
my mother decided to cover her hair when we went back, even though palestinians at the time were not too "religious".
by now you may not want to read on any more since you found out my place of origin, even though i am very proud to be american.

weddings before they were witnesses...
by candidlynuts in.
i have a relative who got married in the 50s , she had an impressive catholic ceremony and had many professional photos made.. i remember when she and her family became witnesses in the 70s and her talking about destroying all of her wedding pics because they were taken in a catholic church and the pictures had pics of crosses and stuff in them... .
i wonder if any of you know of incidences like that.. would you destroy your wedding pics just because they were taken in a church years before you became a jw?

YES! Witnesses in my congregation did this on the regular! They would destroy wedding, baptism, confirmation and first communion pictures if the pictures were taken in a church or had any crosses or other religious items in them.
My mother destroyed a picture I had of my two cousins on their communion day. She only did this after an overly zealous elder came over to our home, started flipping through our family albums and pointed to the crucifix that my cousin in the pic was wearing. My mother took out the picture immediately and ripped it up. She didn't even bother to ask me. These are relatives on my father's side of the family, who are not JWs. IMO she had no friggin right to do that and I told her so right in front of the idiot elder! I swear I could have punched that elder right then and there......who do they think they are anyway?? I was just as mad at my mother for being so brainwashed and never having the courage to stand up to those fools!!

Going to NYC Tomorrow - Any Suggestions What to See, Hear, Eat - Cheap?
by Seeker4 inlori and i are headed to nyc tomorrow, and we'll be there 'til thursday.
we'll also have limited funds (ie: don't suggest a broadway show!

311 is your best friend in NYC. Use it! Especially if you want to find out about free events in Central Park (which there always are)
For cheap eats I highly recommend The Kati Roll Company on 46th between 6th and Broadway, or Aceluck on 9th ave between 39th and 40th (Indian and Thai respectively). Yum!!
Probably won't make it to the KH. But if I see any Witnesses street witnessing, I might have a little fun....
42nd street A line subway station, right across from the porn video stores------you can't miss em! -

What one thing reminds you most of being a Witness?
by free2beme inthe mind is full of all kinds of things that can trigger memories.
it could be the taste of a certain spice that reminds you of a now passed relative who liked to cook.
it could be the smell of a perfume or cologne, that reminds you of a lover you once could not live without.

The number one thing is Doublemint gum. That will always bring me back to the old witness days.
Then there are pantyhose and skirts (both of which I refuse to wear now), soiled diapers, Obsession perfume, the sight of Yankee Stadium, green eyeliner and faux fur coats.
