Hi Stilla I didn't get to read every single post on this thread but based on the few I did glance over I can see there is some debate going about whether or not to tell your parents about the meetings. Let me just say to you that parents in particular need to be told what they want to hear. Honesty is simply NOT the best policy when it comes to parents and/or other family members. Do what you have to do to get by. That's how the real world works anyhow. Take your publisher card and hold onto it or forward to a far away congregation, get them off your back. Being straightforward and blunt doesn't always work out in your favor. If I had to do it all over again, I would do what my brother did. He was a smooth operator and had my mom convinced that yes, he went to all the meetings and field service and whatnot while 800 miles away in college. Anyone with eyes on their face could tell otherwise, but because my mom NEEDED to hear that, it's what he told her day after day. Meanwhile I told my mother upfront that I wanted nothing to do with JWs anymore and it's been hell ever since. My brother BLATANTLY does things in front of mother but because he shows up for the occasional meeting on Sunday all is good.

HELP! Trying to convince my parents I am going to meetings!
by stillAwitness ina few weeks ago i posted about about how my parents have been asking about wether or not my card has been sent to my "new congregation" since i moved out in july.
up until now, i have been stalling not knowing wether or not i wanted to just come out and say "i have not been going to meetings" or not take any action at all.
well someone left an interesting piece of advice on my thread that i have been contemplating doing.that maybe, perhaps i should just have my card sent to a congregation that isn't anywhere near the actual city i live in.

BEST BUY employees not allow to say "MERRY CHRISTMAS"
by lighthouse19something inbest buy employee threatened with being fired if they say 'merry christmas" to customers.

So let me see if I get this: a major retailer that needs to ring up major profit for their annual reports and relies almost exclusively on this season to do so can't extend a simple courteous "merry christmas" to the very people they rely on?? Does this make sense to you all? Not to me.

Did anyone ever rebel to play school sports
by Billzfan23 inhow many of you who grew up in the truth truly loved a sport and fought hard against your jw parents to get to play it?
post your experience here.
my determination to play come hell or high water led to my mother turning me over to the state as a youngster, which then lead to foster care and freedom until i foolishly came back to the borg as an adult.

From the time I was 11 I loved playing on the lunchtime basketball tournaments. Our team won all 5 tournaments that season and we were given little medals and a small ceremony by the principal and the works. It felt really nice and while I didn't score a lot of points I was great at defense, even my teacher acknowleged that in front of the school (and he was a college star). But the whole time I was involved my mother derided me every single day. I would get snide comments like "that's all you think about, where is Jehovah in your life?" or "don't think for a second that this will lead to anything important, the end is so close, you'll be caught sleeping because of your silly games." She never once went to one of my games and she didn't go the ceremony. In the 9th grade I played softball. I didn't give a crap what anyone thought. I played right field and was great at it. My father did see those games, he thought I was awesome. A small injury prevented me from playing the following year.

What's the most stupid comment a JW told you?
by JH ini remember when i was new in the "troof", i was walking in a mall and a jw window washer saw me, and asked, "what are you doing here"?.
yeah, he had a good reason to be at the mall, cause he was washing windows, but i had no business there.... i guess he thought that i was being seduced by material stuff.... and i was stupid enough, not to tell him, mind your own business fu**er....

They were all stupid. I think the worst one was when an elder, around 1992, stated that then end will be here in less than 10 years. I'm still waiting.

when I was very young (about 7) I would spend the day dialing those 976 numbers advertised on tv to hear Santa stories. One time I mis-dialed a digit and got a completely different type of call on the other end of the phone! I think most of the time I felt ok with it, it was just a day to spend at home relaxing and watching tv. Occasionally I would get a gift from a schoolmate or relative. One year I actually got to spend Christmas eve with my father's family in Miami. It was so cool going to the beach on Christmas day.

I have to agree 100% on what someone mentioned earlier---relying on your SO to be everything and meet every single one of your needs. It just doesn't happen that way. Getting engaged/married doesn't mean you have to ditch your life-long friends and drop all your interests. And if the guy demands this of you, get rid of him.

I did for a couple of years post-borg but now it just brings me down. The only way I'll see myself get back into it is if I decide to have kids.
