1. How long were you a Jehovah's Witness? 22 years, baptized for 10 years
2. Were you raised in it or become a JW later on in life? definitely raised in it
3. Were you contacted via the door-to-door ministry? no
4. Initially, what intrigued or drew you to the Jehovah's Witnesses then? had no choice really
5. When were you baptized? Or if you weren't, mention that if you wish. 1988
6. When did you start having doubts? the earliest doubts started around 1993 and continued off an on for about 4 years, especially after the change in policy re: generation of 1914
7. What else perhaps contributed to your leaving? I yearned for a "real life"; I wasn't afraid anymore of "the world" so I decided that it was time to let myself go. Also, I had suffered from major depression all those years, and I knew that it was related to being a JW. No doubt that as soon as I left I never felt depressed again!
8. When were you disfellowshipped/disassociated? 1998
9. Have you ever been reinstated? no
10. Did you attempt to contact or have spoken with other active-JWs when you were DF/DA'd? yes absolutely I had met a former elder in my area and we had some great conversations for a while before he moved away.
11. Have you ever protested/picketted a JW assembly/convention? no but I would love to!
12. Do you miss being a Jehovah's Witness? heeeeeelllll no!
13. Do you still have family that are active JWs? just my mother, her sister and one cousin
14. Do you believe in god/God etc.? yes
15. Are you politically active or have voted? yes
16. Would you say you have become more tolerant or open-minded generally speaking since you left? absolutely
17. Do you think that the WTBTS will crumble? I think that the WT will assimilate more into mainstream society--they'll eventually lift the blood ban, they won't df people, basically, they'll let their members do what they want so as to not keep drawing more negative attention to themselves. the WT is all about appearances.
18. If you could say anything to the WTBTS and be listened to, what would you like to say? I would tell them to come clean, publicly admit to their wrongdoings, ask for forgiveness and agree to release their r&f members from bondage.
19. What has helped you to cope, post-JW? discussion boards such as this one
20. Anything else you'd like to say/add? no

I RENOUNCE MY ASSOCIATION WITH JWS
by REALNESS init is my pleasure to announce i have terminated my membership of the jehovahs wittnesses.
i shall be formally making this statement known to my congregation at tomorrow nights meeting after i have taken the ministry school.
for many years i have developed my own thoughts on religion and this along with the information i have learned here and on other sites has convinced me that i can no longer live teaching the bollocks the wtbs.

Posted in another thread but need to share this b/c it still upsets me
by berylblue insorry for being so self indulgent...i've been meaning to post this but had reached my limit, so i put it in another thread.. this still upsets me.
i don't know why it should...perhaps because i am, as my ex-husband stated, self-absorbed and childish.. but as part of my therapy, i present to you..... the car.
i don't drive and never have.

All of Lisa's faults! (And all of yours, too!)
by LDH inwell i got the impression from teejay that i can come across as supercilious; that i don't think i have any faults.
so for the sake of posterity, i am herewithin listing all of my faults (that i know about, lol).i frequently don't explain my thoughts thoroughly; i'm in a rush and just try to write down what i'm thinking at the moment.
this leads to unclear reasoning when others read my words; on more than one occasion, i'll admit.i'm too quick with the sarcasm.

oooo oooo oooo my turn my turn !!!
weaknesses:
VERY very very sarcastic and "'snippy" ( not good when you work with customers LOL)
impatient (sometimes)
I second guess myself too often--need to trust that "gut"
I often think I "know it all"
I dont take criticism all too well
I'll tell anyone anywhere anytime to F*** off if they annoy me, including my superiors
very little tact, too blunt when I say things.
strengths:
I always give people the benefit of the doubt, I prefer to see good in everyone, even if they screwed up once already.
I forgive and forget easily
Im pretty even-tempered, and when I'm not, I don't stay upset forever.
I don't complain/gripe about other people behind their backs and I don't hold grudges.
Never was and never will be a snitch.

Did 1914 mark an increase in earthquake activity & deaths worldwide?
by Kenneson inalan feuerbacher has written an excellent expose' to the jw position which maintains that since 1914 the frequency and resulting deaths due to earthquakes exceed all previous years.
it is well written and worth your while to peruse.
the title of the article is "watchtower society backpedals on earthquakes or how magicians write essays.

now this is interesting:
If so, remember, we are almost sixty years into the generation that will not pass away until all things occur. Its time must be running out! Ask Jehovahs witnesses to explain in detail Jesus prophecy about our time. It is vital to get an accurate knowledge of Gods requirements if you are to survive the fast-approaching end of this wicked system into that foretold paradise earth.Matt. 24:21; Rev. 21:1-4.
It really makes me wonder how JWs are able to just roll over and play dead when I ask them to explain why the meaning of "this generation" changed in 1995.

Just had visit from an elder...wine and cracker invite
by Waygooder64 inabout 30 minutes ago we had a visit by an elder.
of course it was to invite us to the memorial but the visit turned into an old rehash of issues that the wife and i have thought would not come up.i should mention that this particular elder came alone, while his wife waited in the car.i should also say that this elder is also the father and father-in-law of 2 regular posters on this board.because this elder knows of his daughters and son-in-laws stand towards the wbts it has caused a huge rift in the family.
my wife and i are dear friends of daughter and son-in-law and have been through thick and thin together.

Im sorry is all I could really say. I think most people's reactions would be that he did deserve it, but if we step back a little and analize this, it's easy to see that they all are really victims.

What's the WORST red you've drunk?
by ozziepost inas many of you know, ozzie likes a good red, as in shiraz!
each month we share experiences of the current tastings in the regular threads entitled "ozzie's wine of the month".
not always has the wine of the month made it to the most recommended list.

I dont like Chilean or Argentinian wines. I had a glass of Gato Negro once in a mexican restaurant--pure vinegar. I wouldnt even use it to cook.
I love Shiraz and Chianti.

if you have no family in, there's nothing to lose really. just walk away or DA if you feel you have to.
