anybody who studies the christian religion and in particular the fundamentalist part, will soon discover how important the devil is.

he comes in handy in all kinds of situations.

when a fundamentalist is cornered and unable to answer questions he can always accuse his opponent of being an agent of the devil.

Thanks for another post worth printing and saving.

Considering how many times the WBTS uses the phrase "only Jehovah's Witnesses" when they are praising themselves, here is another interesting quote from the Insight book. Volume 2, page 667:

Self-praise is an evidence of pride and is not upbuilding to the hearers. It is unloving, because it is an exalting of oneself above others. (1Co 13:4) If there is to be praise, it should come spontaneously from impartial observers who have nothing to gain by their commendation.-Pr 27:2.

Talk about "exalting oneself above others" ! How humble can they be?

This:

Disfellowshipping does not sever family ties.

is a lie too. There are many more lies on that site too. It's all to look good to rake more members in.

Spiritual paradise is when a persons spirit is in a state of bliss or delight. Sorta like when someone has a sexual fantasy. Their spirit is in the state of delight.

My opinion only.

I don't know when the "phrase" came into existence,nor what George Gangas has to say about it.

Okay, now see?? I knew I would forget some people...like Gwen and Free2Bme, to name two...and those aren't the only ones I haven't mentioned. Wendy, I agree with you, I almost always read entire threads and find it fascinating to learn what others have to say, different viewpoints and so on.

You're a great person. If I could have sat here and named all the posters I enjoy chatting with, and their posts, I'd be here all night. But there is somthing very special about being in the chat room with you, wendy, plh,think4, Freepeace, JanH, Kent, Seeker,Ginny, Venice, Orange Blossom, bijou,Gopher, Tally,BugEye and BugEyesWife,skally, and the list goes on and on. I like ALL of ya's. And that's why I think this was a wonderful topic that BlackMan started! Only thing unsettling about it is that I'm about to get sappy. somebody stop me!

You know I love ya and I love your sensitivity and non-judgemental view of all people here. I HOPE you know that that's the way I feel about you. I said twice that there would be too many people to list if I had to name all the posters that I love here. I thought that this thread that Black Man started was very nice. I haven't read anything unsettling in it. Can you you e-mail me with what you thought was unsettling about it? I don't understand. I've only seen good in Black Man's topic.

? for elders and former elders...

after reading thirdson's post on sin and mercy... the watchtower way, i was wondering how a disfellowshipped person is able to prove to the elders that they are repentant.

considering that it's not a biblical command to confess out sins to elders, nor to have to prove to them we are repentant, but rather it's a command of the wbts to it's followers, i was appauled to read the following in the flock "book of rules" written by the wbts for the elders to follow.. .

"how funeral arrangements for a disfellowshipped person .

I never knew that the sinner had to "apply" for forgiveness in the form of a letter either. I thought the elders just announced that you were reinstated after you proved you were sorry enough for committing a sin. I don't know why the letter deal surprized me. I thought nothing would by now! It just shows me more that so many rules made up by the society are not based on the Bible or the teachings of Jesus at all.

I'm happy that you both saw what you were involved in, and in time, got out of it.

The Man With the Big Nose

no offense intended for the anointed ones on this board, but ive always compared such professed ones to martin jensen, who professed nothing for himself except that he wasnt good for much.. this iowa corn farmer became a jw in the 40s, was promptly divorced by his wife, and moved to the southern tip of texas, the end of the world.

by default he became the presiding overseer of the english unit, although he never gave a public talk.

there were many unsuccessful attempts over the years to replace him with a more suitable shepherd.

Thank you for yet another great post.

I remember the "Not Of Our Sort" post well, of what a kind, loving person your friend was, and how he was left in the state of being Df'd when he passed on to death. Reminiscing can be therapeutic, but oh so sad at the same time.
