Introducing Myself...

i just wanted to introduce myself and share my verbose story.

my name is kyria, i'm 29 years old, originally from the pawtucket/lincoln rhode island congregation in the states.

i found this board yesterday, and am completely blown away by what an amazing place it is.

Thank you for sharing your story with all of us. It IS VERYinspirational. For whoever it was who told you that you are a strong person was right!

On another note, I agree with whoever it was who said that there are just some non-JWs who don't care to understand because they just don't care to. Not that that's a bad thing, but for some, it is. It depends on what your relationship with that person is. Sometimes WANTING to understand is necessary, depending on what the relationship is. That's my view anyway. Because some habits and ways of thinking from being in such a high control group such as the JW sect are just a constant inner battle to leave a person. DOH!!! Am I making any sence?

Anyhoo....I'm gald you're here and it's nice to meet you again. The last time I saw you, it was the year 1979!

Who really, I mean REALLY made/makes you laugh....

i was watching some old videos tonight and stumbled across some british greats, like dick emery (ooooh you are awful....but i like you...) fawlty towers, les dawson, kenny everett etc.

i got a glimpse of larry grayson, camp as ever on the generation game.

all of these artists were funny to me, and have me in stitches just watching them again even though (john cleese excluded) they have now departed from this mortal coil, much like the carry on crowd, i seem to enjoy past humour much more than the present stuff on offer.

Rowan Atkinson . I have a collection of his shows and watch them when I need a great laugh.

I also watched a show called How to Irritate People once. Don't rmember the guys name, but I know he was British. That show made me REALLY laugh too.

I need advice quick...and a hug.

i'm in a bit of a state at the moment, my wife has just left me about 30 mins ago and took the kids...i don't know where.... ok, some of you long-timers may remember the problems i had with my son ben, who decided that the jw religion wasn't for him about a year ago.

i supported him as best i could through that and he's developed into a fine young man with a more healthy spiritual attitude, investigationg a number of christian churches in the area and finally settled on church of england, which he really likes now.. although no longer a christian myself i have no objection to them pursuing whatever religious path they choose (obviously within reason).

that has been the case with all of my children: ben, 15, charlotte, 14 and chloe, 12. i have never attempted to stop my wife taking them to the meetings although i have voiced to them privately my concerns about the religion.

I'm sorry that you have to go through this, and have to watch your children go through this, but my advice goes with others. Do not leave or move out yet. Find a lawyer forst thing you can tomorrow morning. Most give free consultations and explain the reason why you wife wants you to leave. And ask your lawyer what your legal rights are as far as staying there after your wife requested that you leave. I don't think you HAVE to leave just because she asked you to. Ask your lawyer if he is familiar with separations with JWs too. If he or she isn't, they may be able to refer you to one who does. AND PLEASE print out the WBTS's publication on preparing for Child custody cases and give it to your lawyer too. It is very important, because the WBTS basically tell the child NOT to let on that they are discouraged from associating with peers at school, sports, and also give the impression that they aren't encouraged to pioneer for the WBTS Inc.when they graduate from high school.. I believe it is on Kent's site and/ or board or Randy's site. There is a lot of information every lawyer who is handling child custody cases involving JWs, even if it's tempory custody should be made aware of. If you can't find it, PM or e-mail me and I'll e-mail it to you.

Once you leave/move out, I think that can change things legally....so please tell your wife you are staying till you find someplace to go, and see a lawyer ASAP.

I am not critisizing you, I'm simply contributing my opinion on just this part of what you said:

I don't want to speak for the rest of the guys here but I will admit that us men are more physical when it comes to relationships. In other words we put the physical attachment first. After which when a relationship falls apart we feel frustrated. Where as you women look to the emotional attachment more. Have I got this right? I am open for criticism.

I found throughout my life that once a relationship turns physical between a man and a woman, it is more often the men who get emotionally attached. If there is one thing I learned about men in life, it is that they ARE VERY emotional, period.

What About Relatives?

11 God certainly realizes that carrying out his righteous laws about cutting off wrongdoers often involves and affects relatives. As mentioned above, when an Israelite wrongdoer was executed, no more family association was possible. In fact, if a son was a drunkard and a glutton, his parents were to bring him before the judges, and if he was unrepentant, the parents were to share in the just executing of him, ‘to clear away what is bad from the midst of Israel.’ (Deuteronomy 21:18-21) You can appreciate that this would not have been easy for them. Imagine, too, how the wrongdoer’s brothers, sisters, or grandparents felt. Yet, their putting loyalty to their righteous God before family affection could be lifesaving for them.

That's funny. Where are they now?

The very sad fact is that many JWs have gone years and years without as much as speaking to their own parents, children, and other relatives. And they can't go back and relive those years. It all breaks my heart.

Were they trying to scare us?

i would like to know if anyone here ever tested the water when it came to dabbling in spiritism and then were "bothered" by demons later on.

the wts would write articles about how using ouija boards would be asking for trouble.

any true stories you can share?

I have never experimented with a ouija board myself, but like others here, have heard stories from those who have. Many people throughout my life ( from those who were in different religions and sects, to those who were atheists) have shared their experiences with me. Some were good experiences, and some were bad. The way I look at is that if one believes that spirits exist ( such as God ), then one probably believes that their are both postive and negative spirits. My own sister told me that the first thing she did when experimenting was to ask if she had a gardian angell. the answer was yes. but then she told me of another participant that night who thought the whole spirit/ouija board was silly and was making jokes and asked the board if he could communicate with an evil spirit, the planchette/pointer spelled out a person's name and scared the crap out of him because he could "FEEL the pull" of the planchette on the board.

Myself? I wouldn't even though I'm free to because.... why experiment with an Ouija board if I don't feel comfortable doing it? Since I've left the JW sect, I learned that I'm free to not do anything I'm not comfortable with, period. Along with that freedom, is the freedom to FREELY say and talk about things that make me uncomfortable! For example... I was never free to say that simply going door-to-door "offering" WT publications made me VERY uncomfortable as JW. Instead, I resorted to secretly chucking them ( the WT and AWAKE! mags) into the ladies room trash can that was in whatever shop we stopped for "coffee break", and then counting them as "placed". They were placed alright. :-)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to other responses to this thread. Maybe people here did experiment with Ouija boards and other things and can talk about what their own experiences were, besides us who only had others tell secondhand what they experienced. Thanks for the post!
