Remembering an Old Friend

as most all of you know, i am a vietnam veteran, serving with c troop 7/17th air cavalry from july of 1969 to january 1, 1971. i have heard before that the bond formed by combat veterans is forever.

i can now say that is a true statement.

when first assigned to c troop, i met a man by the name of ron strickland and we hit it off as buddies, becoming best friends, in my estimation.

Seriously tho', you are so right that love like that cannot be found among "Jehovah's people". True brotherly love is based on what is inside a person. I actually do not know what it is like to have such a deep friendship since all my friendships till now have been situational and transient. I live in hope that even tho I experience it vicariously through others, maybe someday, I will have that type of experience. After meeting you the other night, I would agree that you are a very cool guy.

Oh crap, now I am crying. Oh well. Thanks for sharing Lew.

Well I was grateful to Lew that he used the pic he did. The others were yuckky, I gotta get rid of my mustache, but yup I agree Ona could certainly pull off the facial hair. It was wierd the way it popped up on the screen tho. I almost ran screaming out of the room

Things That Drove You CRAZY About The Elders

i was always amazed by the certain elders that really got into giving heavy counsel, while, they themselves, needed to take their own advice.you know, the elder that always picked on the families that weren't perfect, and was the first to volunteer to give the local needs talk on how to bring up your kids.

meanwhile, the elder's own children were smoking and dating "unbelievers".

and i always smirked when the theocratic ministry school overseer gave tough counsel on timing and the use of word-whiskers and pronunciation, while always violating his own criticisms............what drove you crazy??

I was a sis with an unbelieving mate who had drug and alcohol problems (addictions which for the most part dissapeared once I left the organization, hmm very interesting), severely depressed, bordering on suicidal and prone to panic attacks. The elders were always "ENCOURAGING" me by telling me what a blessing and encouragement I was to the congregation to be dealing with such adverse conditions by continuing such faithful service to Jehovah. Near the end of my time with the org, I very blatantly told an elder that if I heard that one more time I thought I would scream because I did not care about being an encouragement, I was in serious pain and needed encouraging myself at which point I got as I always got the "Go out in Service more, study more, pray more, etc speech.

AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH. No wonder I have been in therapy and needing drugs for the last few years. It did drive me crazy.

I have a dream

on today mlk day i think that it is good to reflect on martin luther king's message.

it is a beautiful one, and perhaps today we can all reflect on the progress we have made in recognizing that all men and women are created equal, and where we can still improve.

happy mlk and peace and love to everyone today.i have a dreamby martin luther king, jr.. delivered on the steps at the lincoln memorial in washington d.c. on august 28, 1963. five score years ago, a great american, in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the emancipation proclamation.

Meadow, we did this in church on Saturday. I sing in the choir and one of our basses read the speech while we hummed the song. At the end we sang the song. I had goosebumps on goosebumps. It was very powerful and very moving. This is a yearly tradition in my church one I hope never changes.

Thanks and let us never forget to share MLK's dream.

In the hospital with Meningococcal....

this last week has been very freaky for me.

last saturday i went to bed feeling just fine.

i woke up sunday morning with a very high fever, chills, headache, sick to my stomach, and i couldn't really stand up.

Nicest in congregation

okay, we've talked to death about the crazies in our congregations, and i'm sure we've discussed the grouches (read: boe) but was there anyone in your congregation who was super-nice to you?.

in my congregation (i was in the same one from birth to age 18 when i left) there was an older german couple who had a worldly daughter (grown up, moved out & married) and had a son with down's syndrome.

they lived on a beautiful lake and always had the congregation picnic at their house.

I was in a congregation with Onacruse's parents and found them to be a cool couple. I really miss them.

Actually the congregations I went to had mostly really nice people just trying to get along and doing their JW thing. I never found there to be much of the cr*p that I read about on this board. However, I do understand that this has changed over the years, so I have no idea what is going on now.
