does anyone own a watch dog, paticularly a doberman pinscher?
some on this board know i love animals and i lost my bingo cat last year.
i really loved him to death but i have to admit that when it came to giving affection...forget it.

all the myths about these dogs are not true. just be sure to sosialize them while they're young, and make sure you have alot of time to play with them. they remain in the puppy play frame of mind all of their life.

i had a conversation with my jw elder father tonight that has left me seething.
just to set the scene, i left the jws back in 1994. i was baptized, having been dfd and reinstated a couple of years prior to my final exit in 94. i was never dfd again and pretty much left to my own devices.

DAD: no they said according to your needs to support your self because some parents were sending their kids for a prestige thing or bragging rights your mother and i never said anything to the contrary you had a hard time in regular school and besides we couldn't afford to pay for one you would have to get a scholarship or pay your own way:-D
DAD: the society has never laid a guilt trip on anyone they only provide you with information to help you make your own choices based on the scriptures and your goals for the future:-D
SOULJAH: yeah school probably would have been a lot more fun for me if i recieved your patcience and time to sit down and work through some of my challenges in a cival manner, instead of beating me for bad grades

DAD: some people take it upon themselves to try and tell whatothers what they think you should do according to what "they feel" is what you should do:-D
SOULJAH: & I do remember all the parts given at the assemblies, discouraging you from getting further education
DAD: mike when you came back to baltimore you were already having dealings with things that your mother and i didn't know how to cope with and you were aready trying to establish your own identy whether you realize it or not/they never discouraged you from furthering your education just try to remember ti's purpose is to support yourself and a family see you missed that point sounds like you been talking to someone else who didn't get it either:-[

Mine's an American Staffordshire Terrier named TIGER. He's a Red Nose with an all blond coat & light brendal markings. He's definatly my best freind, one of our favorite things to do is wrestle. He's also very gental with the kids and let's them mount him like a horse.
This dog is definatly a package deal.He serves as a freind, a home security system, & a car security system.
The only bad thing about him is, he get's to be a real flea bag at times, and hates to take a bath.

CONCISTANCY IS DEFINATLY KEY. I THINK THE NUMBER ONE THING IN MY HOUSE IS THAT WE DON'T OWN A TELEVISION. THIS WORKS BOTH WAYS, FIRST MY KIDS ARE NOT INFLUENCED BY WHAT THEY SEE ON TELEVISION; AND SECOND BUT JUST AS IMPORTANT MOM AND MYSELF ARE NOT SITTING IN FRONT OF THE T.V. SHOOING THE KIDS TO BE QUIET SO WE DON'T MISS SOMETHING..
WE DO ALLOW THEM ON THE COMPUTER TO PLAY EDUCATIONAL GAMES AND BROWSE THE INTERNET [WITH OUR SUPERVISION] & OUR COMPUTER ALSO PLAYS DVD's, SO THEY'RE NOT TOTALY DEPRIVED OF MOVING PICTURES.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING I FEEL THAT I CAN DO IS TO BE INVOLVED WITH THEM AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. ONE OF THE BEST WAYS I DO THIS IS BY PLAYING WITH THEM. FOR EXAMPLE; I HAVE BOUGHT THEM OVER FOUR, 5 GALLON BUCKETS WORTH OF LEGO,S. LEGO'S ARE GREAT FOR ADULTS & KIDS; BUT INSTEAD OF SAYING, "WHY DON'T YOU GO PLAY WITH YOUR LEGO'S" I SAY "LET'S GO PLAY WITH YOUR LEGO'S"; THEN OFF TO THEIR ROOM I GO, AND SPEND ABOUT AN HOUR OR TWO BUILDING OR HELPING THEM BUILD.
THE LATEST THING I AM INVOLVED WITH THEM IN IS BMX RACING. MY 7 YEAR OLD HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS NOW, AND HIS 5 YEAR OLD SISTER WANT'S TO BE INVOLVED. THIS IS GREAT FOR ME IN THE SENSE THAT I KNOW HOW TO DO TRICKS ON A BIKE & HOW TO JUMP RAMPS ETC... BUT I DON'T REALLY KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT THE RULES OF FOOTBALL. BELIEVE ME, WHEN THEY GET HOME FROM BMX, THEY DON'T HAVE THE ENERGY TO BE LITTLE HELLIONS. THIS ALSO IS NOT ANYTHING THAT I WOULD TAKE AWAY FROM THEM AS A FORM OF DICIPLINE.
AS FAR AS DICIPLINE GOES, MAKE THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME, SO TO SAY.IT'S VERY RARE THAT I HAVE TO USE MY HAND ON THEIR BEHIND; AND WOULD NEVER STRIKE THEM WITH AN OBJECT; FOR THAT MATTER I WOULD NEVER SPANK THEIR BOTTOM MORE THAN ONCE OUT OF FEAR OF GUILT. BESIDES I GOT THE DEATH LOOK DOWN TO A SCIENCE, ALL I HAVE TO DO IS GIVE THEM A LOOK WHILE WE ARE AT THE GROECERY STORE AND EVERTHING'S UNDER CONTROL.
NOW I HAVE THIS NEW ITEM THAT I USE TO MY ADVANTAGE. I USED NOT TO LET THEM PLAY WITH GUNS PERIOD WHEN THEY WERE YOUNGER; BUT ME BEING A CHILD AT HEART MOST OF THE TIME, PURCHACES A PAIR OF STARWARS LASERS THAT SHOOT NERF BULLETS.THIS ITEM CAME INTO MY HOUSE WITH ALOT OF RULES ATTACHED TO THEM. FOR EXAMPLE; THEY ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO PLAY WITH THEM UNDER MINE OR MY WIFES SUPERVISION, SECOND THEY ARE ONLY TO SHOOT AT PLASTIC BOTTLES THAT I SET UP ON THE BACK OF THE COUCH, ETC.... THIS ITEM IS ALSO GREAT IN THE SENSE THAT I DON'T MIND USING IT AS PUNISHMENT OF SORTS; LIKE, IF YOU GUYS CAN'T GET ALONG AND NOT ARGUE FOR THE REST OF THE EVENING YOU WON'T BE ALLOWED TO SHOOT BOTTLES.
I THINK THE ONE KEY THING THOUGH IS, NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER/INFLUENCE OF TELEVISION ON A CHILD'S BRAIN/ATTITUDE/BEHAVIOR
