So I Finally Dissassociated Myself...
by arecibo inhi guys, .
just want to say how great it is to be able to talk to people in the same situation.
sometimes it feels like there's no-one who can really understand what it's like being brought up in the jws.

Do You Think "Apostates" Are All A Bunch of Whiners?
by minimus inevery so often, you'll see a jw come onto these sites and bash us because we're only looking at the negatives regarding the witnesses.
i don't think we are unfair at all.
at least we speak the "truth".

I mentioned to my counselor that maybe I was just feeling sorry for myself with all of my whining. He responded, "You have been through a lot, and life has been much harder on you than most people. Go easy on yourself."
So now I think maybe we are justified in whining. Life has been very hard, and if we can help someone else escape or not fall into the trap in the first place, then our whining is serving a good purpose.
At least we are pointing out the flaws, otherwise it would be a very one-sided picture of the Watchtower Society, which they were happy to paint for over a hundred years. Now that there are apostates coming forward and exposing their hypocrisy in more public venues, they call us whiners and unappreciative of Jehovah's loving provisions.
That's just a bunch of BS. If they don't want to hear our message, they should do as their leaders demand and stay away from here. Since they are coming here, then they deserve to know what their precious Watchtower Society has been really up to for the last 125 years.
I am also of the opinion that those that do come here and call us whiners doth protest too much. The JWD apologist of today is the apostate of tomorrow, and the very fact that they are here and defending the JWs shouts out their denial of the doubt they have. Do they really deserve a sugar-coated message like the one they get at the KH? Or is it better to tell it like it is so that they at least have their eyes wide open about what they are getting into?

WERE THERE ANY `YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS,MAN' moments in KH

That reminded me of a brother who said that 75% of the earth is covered with water, so maybe in the new world Jehovah would change some of us to breathe underwater and live at the bottom of the ocean!
Doubleyou tee eff. That is insane.Yeah, it is! The problem is, though, when you are a little kids and you are told that, you tend to believe it for a long time. Little kids have no life experience to rely on to help differentiate between real and fantasy. What's a worse problem is that all of the adults who were old enough to know better didn't tell us kids any differently; they apparently just accepted it!

What are apostate lies?
by vitty inwith the hotting up of the wt articles about not listening to apostate lies.
i was wondering, when you where in the borg did you ever wonder what these "lies" were.. its a strange thing but i never did.
i never even knew what they said about us and i didnt care.. in other walks of life, if you hear that someone has been lied about, you usually want to know what it is (well i do cos im nosey) but in all my 20 years i didnt wonder about what the apostates were saying.

An Elder once gave a talk at our Hall and said that in the new order we might even live on the moon..THE MOON!!! ; For 35 years I've been told we are going to live on a earthly paradise and this guy says we could live on the moon. ; YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS MAN!!!
That reminded me of a brother who said that 75% of the earth is covered with water, so maybe in the new world Jehovah would change some of us to breathe underwater and live at the bottom of the ocean!
Of course, I believed it at the time, because I was just a little kid, but as I grew older I and the more I thought about it, I was struck by how ludicrous this was.

It was actually at a circuit assembly. "Sisters shouldn't wear dark colored stockings because that's what prostitutes wear!"
I was gob-smacked!
There was also the admonition in our local hall that the congregation wasn't to be shunning our local child molester, because he had been only publicly reproved! Gee, maybe we should have been visiting him in the jail where he was serving his sentence on the weekends also?
Absolutely unbelievable.

The ridiculers were "right ".............all along
by vitty inhow do you feel, now, knowing that the ridiculers, objectionist or non-jw family and workmates were right.. i feel a tad embarrist, i spent a long time, 20 years, trying convince, or prove ppl that i had the "truth" .
my only consolation was that i would be proved right and that they would end up looking foolish.
pride is a terrible thing.

It's a little embarrassing to realize that the ridiculers were right that you were being ridiculous (deserving ridicule -- Websters)!
Fortunately not many make an issue of it. They are usually just glad you have finally come to your senses. Sometimes they are even proud of you for seeing through it.

Doubting our own intuition - reality vs. reality
by Cady inwhen someone asks about the jws, i usually find myself talking about disfellowshipping, the blood issue, the child-molestation problem.
but looking back i think, although those are the easily explained and perhaps somewhat sensational bad things about being a jw, they're not the only things that have left their marks.
in fact, only the disfellowshipping issue has personally affected me (although i'm not officially df'd, but of course you don't have to be to lose your friends/family).

What gets me even more is that I don't trust myself. We were constantly told "this is reality" when our senses and our intuition clearly said "no it's not." But of course we listed to what we were told, and learned not to listen to ourselves.
Then there's trying to figure life out outside of the JWs, trying to figure out the world of dating/college/etc - all the things you're not taught about, and so kind of trip and fall and stumble your way through.
And then I just get so incredibly pi**ed and that anger doesn't seem to do any good, just makes me edgy and irritable. And it's not a common thing anymore - I've been out for four years and I'm hardly on the board anymore, but I find when things get rough I come back here for some warm words and commiseration.
Cady, I know how this is. Our reality is so different from the reality of people around me. Skills they take for granted I pretend to have as well, because 1. they expect me to, and because 2. I don't want to not fit in any more. But it's rough. I contrast them and myself and I realize that I just don't have the same tools they have to survive in this world. But I am determined to survive. It's not our fault society let us down and we are not the only ones. There are lots of other broken people in the world that society failed too. If I have to fake it, I will, because nobody was there for me as a child going through this crap and I have every right to live here in this world as the "normal" people. Tammy
