  How do apocolytpic cults start?

  i was doing some reading on jonestown recently, which led me to some reading on the branch davidians and the heaven's gate folks.. it seems to me (and this is the part i want to discuss) doomsday or apocolyptic cults all share some common characteristics:.

  - secret knowledge of am impending disaster.

  - their survival if they follow the messages from a higher source that their leader receives.

  what does that imply?.

  btw, to update of our planned bible study together ~ didn't start, i found it disturbing to argue with someone with jw mindset, confusing and annoying.

  i am just not ready yet, for it takes a lot of patience i know.

  In paragraph 17 on pg. 8 it states , " Jesus said, " He that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved. "

  Since the JWs are supposed to live forever and never die but everyone dies, so "will be saved" from what?

  have you ever wanted to have a witty comeback for a jw's thought stopping platitude or slogun, but couldn't think of one to plant a seed of doubt in a jw?

  please share your witty comebacks and a bible verse(s) that contradicts watchtower thought stopping platitudes and slogans.. here are a couple of mine.. 1) watchtower thougnt-stopping platitude - "where else will we go?".

  Ahhhh!! I have so many options I don't know where to start . But thanks for all your feedbacks. My initial plan was to start with Roman & Ephesians (As CA said, to let him know his identity in Christ), but then a friend said I should start with John, to know who Jesus is... My whole point of the study is not to argue with him or to tell him about the flaws of the WTF WTS, but to let him see what the Bible really says and help him to think for himself.
