The antidote to the myth that JWs are declining
by slimboyfat inone of the most persistent myths on this website is that jws are already in decline, the rot has set in, and the descent of the watchtower is inevitable from here on in.
unfortunately the facts do not bear this out.
jws are still increasing even in most developing countries, and they are still growing worldwide at a faster rate than the general population.

Okay the amount of publishers or better put redundant salesmen/benchwarmers is increasing, but is the number of JWs really increasing? Okay, what are JWs characterised by? By "love"? Nope, by meeting attendance and field service participation, and matrydom. Now, tell me, are the numbers of JWs increasing? Go attend a meeting of 100 pubs and find the average meeting attendance, get 80+, and you can be sure its because of memorial night! Get 40 out in FS anyday, and it can only be "special campaign" weekend!! Get one who died for his faith, and you can be sure he died in an accident!!!

Judicial Meeting
by Kool Jo inso here you are...sitting with a couple of elders at judicial meeting, and you're asked the following question:.
"do you still believe that the fds is the channel that jehovah is using"?.
now is it possible to answer 'no' without being df, or how would you answer that question?.

Jehovah’s Witnesses, in their eagerness for Jesus’ second coming, have suggested dates that turned out to be incorrect. Because of this, some have called them false prophets. Never in these instances, however, did they presume to originate predictions ‘in the name of Jehovah.’ Never did they say, ‘These are the words of Jehovah.’ TheWatchtower, the official journal of Jehovah’s Witnesses, has said: “We have not the gift of prophecy.” (January 1883, page 425) “Nor would we have our writings reverenced or regarded as infallible.” (December 15, 1896, page 306) TheWatchtower has also said that the fact that some have Jehovah’s spirit “does not mean those now serving as Jehovah’s witnesses are inspired. It does not mean that the writings in this magazine TheWatchtower are inspired and infallible and without mistakes.” (May 15, 1947, page 157) “TheWatchtower does not claim to be inspired in its utterances, nor is it dogmatic.” (August 15, 1950, page 263) “The brothers preparing these publications are not infallible. Their writings are not inspired as are those of Paul and the other Bible writers. (2 Tim. 3:16) And so, at times, it has been necessary, as understanding became clearer, to correct views. (Prov. 4:18)”—February 15, 1981, page 19.

Despite haven lived in a active JW family, we never hanged JW calenders rather going for the more secular more real-life ones. Took one with me to school just for the fun of it and as you've noted the pictures are simply a dumb's rendition of Utopia!

Since you've left, are you still good friends with your bestest JW buddies?
by Julia Orwell inis it possible that someone has a jw friend who's very active in the congregation, knows you don't believe it anymore, and is still your friend?
i'm at the point where word is getting out that i'm not going to meetings anymore, and friends ask me if they'll be seeing me at the ca and i tell them i'm not going.
they want to know why, and what they can do to encourage me.

So, maybe I am the positive (or, say mildly positive) experience yet!
Still my "ex's" sweetheart (officially ex*winks*). Lost almost all friends in school congos but very little friends in the home congos shun me, sister shuns me but her hubby somewhat doesn't and calls when I post my "nasty" JW articles on Facebook to reduce the tone or go incognito to reduce stress on family members by calls from concerned relatives. Mom's side shunning, dad's side accomodating, irony is dad is shunning mom is still motherly, and even more compassionate these days. All the elderly ones in my congs both home and school hardly shun me, my been a sweet, loving, and always around-to-help status still working it's magic (altho' most of them are already immuned to any JC being senior citizens), and yeah some of the JW girls are now really trying to get my attention, can see the crazy hero reflection of me sometimes in the glitter of their eyes as they quickly whisper their "we miss you"'s and drop a hint if I could visit or they, albeit discreetly (now, can you beat that!). Sadly tho, most of my best friends are long gone, some weeping like the tropic rains, other just disappearing like the harmattan haze at midday.
And the sheer volume of calls I get from JWs lovebombing me these days sometimes makes me wish they were just shunning me instead. Classmates call my phone "argument hotline"!

I am so sorry!
Okay, so this has a bitter taste to the mouth but it has to be done!
Seemed I had inadvertently spread a false info here. Called my JW aunt in the UK for clarifications on why no one seemed to noticed that she (Aunt Juliet, Mrs Obasuyi) is/was a JW, and she said that Tobi's mum and her first hubby never did get baptised and her second hubby was a born-in but left JW. She said Aunt Juliet always played the JW card only when she needed favour from the family (since the bulk are JWs) and that she never really become one in the true sense of it. But she said while Tobi was never an unbaptised publisher he would accompany them in the field ministry and was an advanced bible student. Then, she gloated and said, "Jehovah knew what they would become and never allowed them to become his witnesses so that they would not bring dishonour to his name and organisation". I felt like puking, would have given her a sharp response but all on my mind was how I had given a wrong info here on JWN and the need to quickly right that wrong!
Please, I tender my unreserved apologies to anyone misled by this, it was very not delibrate! I shall henceforth be more careful with any info I give, verifying the details before dispersing them, for "words spoken are like broken eggs, they can't be patched back"
NB: Called my mum and confronted her with it, seemed she was as in the dark as me and never knew Aunty Juliet was at no time a BAPTISED JW! She said she'd call other members of family to verify that as it was all news to her.

@cofty
I'm confused - what's the connection between Tobi, Michael the murderer and Damilola Taylor?
Their fathers both hail from the same home town, and they (Dami's dad and Tobi's mum) are relatives, and are also my mum's relations too.
@free@last,
Well, nope, there ain't any meetups and stuff here in Nigeria but I have tried to make new friends. In fact, I even started to go to churches with the explicit aims of making new friends, particularly one of the female folks. But things are not as interesting especially when one so adept to making conversations with strangers now finds out he can't even hold normal conversations with people as there seem to be little we have in common. And being a JW is more tolerate here than having agnotic views, so it still is rather dull social-wise. Only hope my academics wouldn't suffer too much as my desire to go to MIT for my PhD just suffered a dip with recent grades, but thanks for the concern. Yeah, and someone's got to have the good and the bad in the family, the one that hurts most is the ugly!

@free@last, she came to Nigeria seeking a political appointment i.e a top government job not a politically career! She didn't get one, and has since returned to the UK claiming insecurity in Nigeria. And she is one you can call a well-faded JW who becomes one back in family circles to prevent the backlash of shunning, my mum's people call her one of those weak oyinbo JWs.

Did Yahweh command child sacrifice at one time?
by srd inalthough there is no explicit commandment or stipulation that ordains child sacrifice in the bible, there are nonetheless numerous passages that discuss it as if it was being practiced.
this post lays the query out.

On the brighter side, guessed Jephthat daugther didn't died a virgin. Maybe some men did go with them in roaming those "hills and valleys" (hmmm, I love porn, sorry err puns), and my, what a time she must have had- give me good sex with reckless abandon for two whole uninterrupted months, then make a martyr of me, I'd be very much obliged!
And Isaac's story could never be complete without the tranquilizers, ropes and bondage materials (yeah, he was drugged and overpowered by Abraham and his servants), then he was also an imbecile (couldn't get himself a wife, couldn't recognise his own kids, couldn't distinguish hog meat from mutton!), so he wasn't worth much anyway.
And don't mind God when he said it "never came up in his mind", when you too have being living for eternity, you'd see whether you wouldn't suffer from some descent amnesia (remember, then "all the former things would not be called to mind"). Well, okay, I agree, his is selective amnesia but amnesia all the same.
Did you say God sacrificed Jesus? C'mon he wasn't even technically dead, imagine just 3 days out of infinity! Let's just say he passed out for a moment and was resuscitated. And lest you forget, the Romans and Jewish leaders did it and not God, he only "allowed" it to happened!
A couple lines in a poem I wrote on the several atrocities perform by "God" reads:
But God was not found guilty
For God was not found...at all

So, mum called this this afternoon and asked if I had heard of the London terror attacks, I replied that I know of it.
Then she asked, Don't you recognise him?"
So I answered, "No".
Mum: Don't you recognise Tobi?
Me: Which Tobi?
Mum: Tobi, Aunty Juliet's son
Me: What! No, I couldn't have recognised him, only spoken to him on phone! Wait, mum, but those guys are Jehovah's Witnesses if I remember well?
Mum: Yep, that's what I am trying to impress in you. People who leave Jehovah's organization often turn up worst!
Me: Mum, you remember Jonathan Holt, don't you?
Mum: Don't let us go there now, your father is here, and he will not be happy hearing you parrot those apostate talks...
Me(cuts in): He can't bear to hear the truth about the truth...
Mum(cuts phone)
So, but then the reality sank, I am a relative (distant cousins) to one of the terrorists, Micheal Adebowale! Yeah, his parents are JWs altho' seemed his dad stopped after the divorce( no one in the news seemed to have mentioned that), and his mum had been complaining a long while about him having bad associates to us back home in Nigeria. I hate this terrorism as it has claimed thousands of lives back home but now it struck nearer to home again even in faraway Britain. First Damilola Taylor, now Tobi, seems my mum's family is having more than their fair share of terror deaths and terrorists!
