The Bible - god or manual?

i am challenging my own perception of the bible, from what i have comfortably held for many years.

at work, i have learned the proper place for a manual - handy to refer to, but don't treat it as gospel.

you know those annoying colleagues at work, that pull out chapter and verse the minute things don't go their way.

I Just finished taking a western religion class and found my teachers opinion of the bible to quite interesting. Its a good book to try to abide by but can not all be taken literally. It was a group of men that wrote it and has been translated several times so we will never know what the original writing said. I found this take to be interesting and close to what I believed any how.

If any of you are in school right now and have a couple of electives to fill I would definetly suggest the Eastern and Western Religion courses offered. I learned so much from those classes it gave me a whole new perspective on all religions.

Is it cheaper to live in the U.S.A?

being from the uk i find the cost of living high, but according to most its much cheaper to live in the usa,i mean food is cheaper,fuel is cheaper,hi-fi is cheaper,i bet everything is cheaper,why the hell is it cheaper in the usa.

so if im wrong convince me why im better off in the uk.

Where I live in CA the housing prices have doubled in the last 3 years our Sales tax is 7.75% and we pay the highest state income tax in the nation at 9%. It is cheaper to live in Hawaii than here. You can't get a 1 bedroom apartment for under $900 a month. My husband and I looked at some new apartments they were bldg. in the area and they wanted a $1550 deposit and $1450 a month for a one bedrom. A two bedrom was $2100. And get this are average wage is only $2,000 more a year than other parts of the nation (ie Indiana, Kanas, & Alabama)

A day in field service

7:30-too early to get up on a saturday morning but the co is visiting and i must show up to make our cong.

9:00 - arrive at kh, smile and say "good morning" to everyone (even though i'm still half asleep).

he visited had 69 people when he was there.

I was the absolute worst about counting time. I would get up in the morning and then I would talk to my unbaptized sister that was a hour of time. Then we would go to the service meeting I would go on calls which consisted of a Starbucks trip meet up with my family in the territory and go to lunch. I would have my 3 hours in for the month in one day without ever leaving a mag or knocking on someone's door. I don't think I ever turned in 10 hours a month except the 2 times I aux. pioneered. They didn't let me the 3rd time because they were cracking down on people who had low service time and not letting them have privleges. I mean at 18 I am suppose to devote my whole life to the BOrg and always be in service.

HOW MANY HERE HAVE HAD JUDICIAL ACTION?

many of the posters here have been in the organization for years.during the time that you have been associated, have you ever had to go before a commitee?

did you confess to something or were you confronted by the elders?

were you ever accused of something but it couldn't be proven?

When my husband and I were engaged he put his arm around the back of my chair and we promptly were called into the elders room for inapporiate conduct.

After we were married my husband was constantly told about my dress, just like my father was in the years earlier. Her dresses are too short, they show too much skin, etc., etc. I just have always wondered why they tell the man your father, your husband like they dress you and its not like my father and husband did not see me come out of the house in the outfit i was in.

I found this last experience to be sad. My cousin who is married and wants to regular pioneer was told that she would not be allowed to because her dress is immodest. Personally I think everyone in the hall is jealous because she is a size 3 and tall and can wear whatever she wants. She got so mad she promptly went out and pierced her the cartalige on her right ear. Later on she told me they are never going to let me pioneer I might as well do what I want. I told her don't let them tell you what you should do. Why do you feel bad over what they say, they have no right to tell you how to dress. Her best friend in a different congergation has everything pierced and hangs out at the local lesbian bar and is a regular pioneer

i want to share since i'm new here!

i was more or less born into the jw religion and raised as one.

my mom was a pretty strict believer, but she didn't get baptized until i was 9, "surprisingly" my parents got divorced three years later.

I have to agree with you Red Pill. I have stated several times to my husband that my mother and grandmother need to be Jehovah's Witnesses. I don't think that they would be happy if they were out of that environment. It allows them to live oblivious to the world as we know it. My mother rather live in a world of denial than know what it is really like to live.

I just hope that my brother and sister don't get caught up in it like my father did. My father has expressed to me many time growing he did not like the Wittnesses and what they stood for. He even removed himself as an elder. I wish he was bold enough to leave but he will follow my mother and his mother to the bitter end. I only wish I could tell him it would be OK for him to leave as I know he truly dislikes it.

A week away from being a "normal" fam...

yep , it will happen next monday morning at 8:30 am.

all of my children will be attending their very first day of school, jake is 15, kelly is 9 and chance is 7. they are so excited about getting school supplies , backpacks, i almost said bookbags, lol , for the first time.

my daughter said this is her dream come true.

Hi I am Random Tasks Wife. I have posted a few times but never really introduced myself. I never knew til last night when my husband showed me his post that I was the one who helped him leave. I always thought he was the one that helped me. I guess we helped each other. Now only if I could save my 18 year old brother and 15 year old sister.
