Handling "Conversation Stoppers", 1963 style.
by Open mind inold timers may remember that the wt used to print up "reports" of the assemblies in paperback booklet form during the late forties to early sixties.
(this predates my memory, btw.
) i have a copy of the 1963 report on the "everlasting good news" assembly of jehovah's witnesses.

Was Jehovah God Ever Real To You?
by minimus inwe were supposed to "love" jehovah god.
we were taught how wonderful a god he is and how fortunate we were to be his people.
of course, you can't see jehovah god.

Undercover- my feelings exactly. Since I left I have repeatly heard that my problem is that I never developed a personal relationship with Jehovah. I find that to be an unarguable point. Just like those that left the JW's and somehow got invited to sit in Jesus' lap.

Kingdom Halls, Assemblies, District Conventions - NO POWER POINT
by Nephilim ini'm a good public speaker - when i have my power point.
this is because i am a very visual person.
when i had my notes everything seemed to get blurry.. it bothers me that there is this unwritten law that you are not allowed to give visual presentations in the kingdom hall... even assemblies equipped with multiple projectors (to view baptism) do not use power point or any type of visual stimulus.. hell even when they have 10,000 plus people they are still working a full day with just a man on stage talking.

I used to give a talk that dealt with Daniels dream, 607 etc, I believe it was entitled "Is it time for god to rule the world". In preparing the talk, I figured there was no way to understand that without some visual help, so when I gave the talk I used a chart that I filled in as I progressed with the talk. I never got any hastle for doing it, but it was that talk and the preparation I did for it that allowed me to pick up on the 607-587 problem which eventually allowed me to figure out the whole scam.

you should not have to choose between your religion and family ! (awake mag quote)
by looloo inlast summer there was a big upset caused by an article (july ,ithink) in the awake about a hindu lady that upset her family by leaving her religion and joining jehovahs witnesses and the ironic thing was it had the above quote in it , that someone should not have to choose between family and religion !
i printed the article off and underlined that section , and recently sent it to my inlaws along with a letter , because they are upset about not seeing their grandchild because they banned their son from the house (he sdisfellowshipped) i am trying to sort the situation out , and i thought they might notice the hypocrisy in the article , however that idea did not work as apparently" there are lies on the internet !
" and father in law was not very happy to receive it , but it is from an awake magazine ,watchtower literature !

Does anyone else have a hard time figuring out what to believe regarding where this is headed? After spending most of my life living in the JW cocoon, the abundace of information I am now confronted with makes it real confusing.
One thing I will say, I believe that the more things you have that are paid or better off you are.

You could go mad - trying to make sense of the sin/grace debate.
It starts off with a false premise and then twists turns and contradicts. It has all been said before so I won't go ranting on.
People believe because they want to. When it no longer suits them they stop. It's much like taking drugs.
Nice synopsis of the situation!
Some on this board leave the JW's and then get involved with another group. I think that adds that extra ingredient which makes it all the harder to see where you may be wrong about your beliefs.

Seems to me the crux of this whole matter lies in the definition of justice.
Terry wrote "Justice is getting what you deserve and not getting what you don't deserve." That is what justice means in every occasion that I can think of, but some on this board feel they can change that definition when god is involved.
Just shows me that if you want to believe something bad enough, you can make it fit no matter what. Believers seem to do that with the whole bible, if literal doesn't fit, then let's make it figurative. After all, it has to fit somehow. I'm glad I left that all behind at the KH.
