. Another Flood Question
by startingover ini spent most of my life being told things that i just accepted without questioning.
as i pick up a bible now and begin reading in genesis it sounds so different.
i remember the flood being used as an example of what would happen in our day.

I sometimes I think I am going crazy when I share things with my wife and parents and they tell me they never understood the thing being discussed that way at all. I ask them where I got my understanding, I didn't make it up. I have believed a certain way because that's what I heard for years at the meetings. They try to make me look like I'm just looking for a problem so I don't have to believe, and that the society never said that even though I can show them in a publication.
What brought this flood question up was a discussion with my parents. From what I remembered about the Noah and the warning work, it came to mind that God had already decided there was going to be no one responding to Noah's message as he had already set the ark's size. I thought, what if 10,000 people responded? Where was there going to be room? Did God predestine the event? I was going to ask my parents that, and I thought I would get buffed up on exactly what the bible said first. To my surprise, it wasn't even mentioned. I decided along time ago that the bible isn't what I once thought it to be, but this was a new one for me.

I remember the flood being used as an example of what would happen in our day. I remember thinking that Noah had engaged in a warning work that corresponded to the preaching work today. Now when I read the account it doesn't say that Noah did anything like that. Where did I get that understanding? Is it possible I made that up in my mind?

Shocking or funny experiences at the memorial
by Dimples ini remember at one memorial one of the sisters invited someone other than a bible study.
imagine as they passed the wine and the kingdom hall (you know at this time the place is always silent) to have this person stand up, hold her glass of wine up in the air and at the top of her lungs yell out... i drink this wine for jesus christ who died for me!!!
another time with the passing of the bread, i had the aisle seat and handed the brother the plate so he could start another row.

When I was a young kid I sat next to a man that would later DA himself. When the bread was passed he leaned over to me and asked me if I had any butter.

Your Online Persona
by Xena ini saw a thread recently that asked if you were different from your online persona, most people answered to varying degrees "no".
that made me wonder though how do you view yourself and how do other people view you?
what kind of a person do you feel you project?

Interesting subject. I am usually a quiet person and keep conversation short and sweet around people I don't know very well. I open up when I feel comfortable in a relationship. I guess that's why I don't post here very often even though I'm here every day observing. That's why I'm still a newbie after almost 2 years on the board.
That's another nice picture you've got for yourself Xena.

if you had your whole adult life ahead of you, what career would you choose to pursue and why?.
i'd choose marine biologist or scientific research.....because i wouldn't hafta deal so much with people's attitudes, marine life is beautiful and fun, science of this planet is interesting....it *can* be a lucrative field, depending on which aspect of it i choose to pursue.... frannie b

Thanks so much for posting this. As I read your posts I find that I am on the same page as you are on most things.
You know, this discussion board thing has really become quite a force. You have been so open in your posts that I feel that I know you personally. Even though we know alot of the same people since I grew up a JW where you live and spent my first 21 years there, I have never met you in person, but I feel like I know you. Just wanted to share that, and thanks again for the post.

Hey Smack,
I don't know which one is you in the bottom picture, but I'll bet that's you playing pocket pool in the top one.
I didn't know they made a TL250 in '77, at least they didn't for the US. I know Honda makes bikes that are country specific, I saw quite a few when I was in Europe that didn't exist here. Maybe they made it over where you are.
Scootergirl,
Haven't seen you post for a while, I knew the motorcycle thread would bring you back. I'd like to show your picture to the ones that know you out here, but then I'd have to explain how I got the picture and I don't need to go there right now. Sad, but true.
