Is there any truth to what I have heard about the Spanish congregations, that they are large bacause they don't have enough elders and MS? I heard they don't have enough because they can't make appointments since many of the qualified men are illegals.

by nicolaou in.
of course, they say it's because they've outgrown the hall but that isn't what this years report indicates is it?

I too am an accomplished fader, so far. As my wife is still active the ties are still there.
My first big step was to not attend the district convention. That really caused a stir. Even though I wasn't going to meetings, not going to the assembly made a statement. After not doing that for a couple of years the memorial was next. I think at that point my friends knew it was coming. The last one I attended was for PR reasons only. When you don't attend the memorial I think it is assumed that you are a lost cause, which is where you want to be IMO.

Mulan,
If they do come over, make sure Dave is wearing a Santa Claus hat. That oughta set the stage for the visit.

MUST you respond in a thread?
by logansrun ini've come to a new conclusion about myself, this board and communication in general: i don't need to respond, elaborate, explain or otherwise defend myself to other people.
most notably on this board, of course.
here's my reasoning: .

I totally agree with Gumby. I am one of the others he's talking about.
There are many on this board that get challenged over things they say that can fire back a very logical response. I look forward to those posts. Bradley, you are one of those. I have learned so many things by reading your responses.
For what it's worth I hope you don't stop

God's existance
by startingover ini found this on an athiest discussion board.
why jehovah does not prove his existence...
because those who actually had the proof we atheists want no longer wanted him as god.

Here's the link:

I got that quote under "Existance of God" on the second page on a post entitled "Why Jehovahs doesn't prove his existance"
When I read on that forum, it many times gets so deep I can't comprehend what's being said. Here it seems we all have the JW frame of reference which I can relate to.
I found this quote on that site. It has now become my favorite.
The Bible says: "The fool says, There is no god" I say: "If a fool can figure it out, why can't you?"

Why Jehovah does not prove his existence... Because those who actually had the proof we atheists want no longer wanted him as God. Satan and his rebel cohorts knew God on a first hand basis and decided they were better off without Him. God showed himself repeatedly to Jews and they turned away to worship other gods. When God actually turned up in person as Christ he had to deal with humans rejecting him again. For the last two thousand years Jehovah no longer appeared before human beings. The result is fanatically devout Christians. We can conclude that when you come to know Jehovah/God personally you get so disgusted/disillusioned that you reject him. God sucks at interpersonal relationships. So it is a smart PR move to not appear anymore and try to give actual evidence for His existence

A Mormon Ray Franz
by startingover init appears to me that grant palmer is the mormon equivelant to ray franz.
the mormons appear to be a little more lenient but it will be interesting to see what happens to him.. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/apus_story.asp?category=1110&slug=heresy%20trial.
if my memory serves me correctly, in the beginning of his discoveries about 607 ray never had the idea to take people away from the organization, he just thought the truth should be told.

In talking to my family they say they are happy where they are. But things are going good right now. There is plenty of money, friends, health etc. I think I will start asking them if they would still be happy if they had to give up their life because of a blood issue, or to give up their lifestyle and property because of some political issue like Malawi.
I was never taught that the criteria for believing this was god's org. was happiness, I thought it was because it was truth. Somehow I believe that's gotten lost over the years of good times.

I have thought for some time that if info like these men were exposing got out there would be a mass exodus from the organization and that is why the head honchos squash the problem. I am now of the opinion that people comfortable in these high control religions could care less about truth.
I put up with endless meetings and preaching because I thought it was truth. When I discovered it wasn't truth it didn't take long for those things to go. It's so hard for me to understand the mindset of these people that find a way to ignore truth.

New Provision to Assist Us to Abstain From Blood - Dec KM
by truthseeker inif you wondered whether the society would print blood cards this year, they won't.
blood cards are out.. consider the box found on the december km, entitled "new provision to assist us to abstain from blood".
the governing body has approved combining the essential elements of the durable power of attorney (dpa) document and the advance.

I bet my wife will still display her blood card prominently in her wallet. As a JW I was always under the impression that it was a very important thing to have that displayed, it's going to be a little hard to do that with the DPA.
