Just to let you know Richie that I really admire you. Hopefully this is just a speedbump in your life. You have a tremendous amount of wisdom for your age and I have no doubt you will go far with it. Hang in there!
Good idea FF!
as many of you know, i have a myspace.com account.. apparently, while i was out last night, someone called my mother and informed her of my activities on myspace.
my mother called and asked me for my login info, and was shocked to see me, and around 40 witnesses in my area having active profiles.
contents of these profile ranged from a few pictures to downright self-incrimination.

i disassociated myself from jws about 20 years ago so i'm a bit rusty on christian teaching.
the intersting thing though is i hadn't completely disassociated my mind from their teachings and it's only been recently that i've had true independent thought.
it's scary if you think about it.
Why is it the believers don't like to reason on this stuff? It seems when a valid question is asked that calls into question their beliefs they move on, as is evident from this comment:
Actually, though I don't feel like entertaining this thread any longer,
I also find it interesting that believers can make comments like this:
I have shared what I believe and know to be true. You either agree with what I have spoken here or you don't.
I'm not trying to pick on you mdb. I just don't notice non-believers making such dogmatic statements such as you did when you said "and know to be true". It all takes me back to my life as a dub when I was so sure I had the truth. How things have changed for me.

It is foolishness to the natural man
You are going to have to explain this statement.

I guess mdb bailed out on this thread.

..are you proud or embarrassed?
I'm not at all embarrassed by it. In fact I get a thrill out of telling people.
The reactions I get when telling people is not really expected. Those that knew me as a JW and were still my friend even so were all thrilled that I left. I could just see their face light up when I told them. They were so happy for me.
What's also interesting is the things they now tell me, like how they really felt about me as a JW. One told me that he and his wife would have liked to have gotten closer to us but knew there was a wall. He was right on about that.
I'm sure I have taken more out than I ever brought in. If I kept it all to myself that would never have happened.

Mouthy,
You brought back some old memories. The ones of my parakeet. I just loved that little bird, but we also taught him to say "praise jehovah" and "read the watchtower". His death sickened me but with my situation now maybe it's a good thing he's gone as I would have a real hard time with him saying that now.
some time ago i read that herod died before jesus was born calling into question his command to kill all the male babies under 2 yrs.
as told in the bible.. i never bothered to research it before, but doing so i discover that herod the great died in 4 bc.
some sources mention that it calls into question the biblical account but others make it sound like jesus had to be born before herod died so therefore he was born before 4 bc.
This really gets my head spinning. So if this is true our calendar is really based on the wrong date.
Does anyone know if Herod's action against the male babies was documented anywhere else but in the bible?

I always thought 1 BC was 1 BC because it was the year before Jesus was supposedly born.
Anyone got any info to add to this?
