Remember the word circulating among the JW's in the fall of 2001, that there was going to be a big announcement at the annual meeting that year? Nothing special was said, so some speculated that they were going to announce a change in their view of the UN, and proof that this was OK was that Jehovah was still blessing the org even though they had been associated with the UN for a decade before. However the news of their involvement broke before the meeting and it was speculated that they had to cancel the announcement.

This thread takes me back to my days of rubbing shoulders with the big wigs of the org growing up. Nothing like knowing someone in a position of power personally to create a bias. Just like paying big bucks to attend a convention in another country, I'm sure some spend big money just to attend this event. Wonder if they'll come home with an autograph.

why some people are better off in cults.

familiesthe family unit has always been the core of mankinds strength to survive sometimes insurmountable odds against nature, other men and the arbitrariness of life.

when you stand alone, you have no one there to hold you up, defend you or take care of you.. if, on the other hand, you are part of a nurturing family, you have access to the helps of others, and in turn are obligated to be there when another in the family suddenly needs you.

so, i thought it would be good to talk about how to handle different situations without arguing.. if you have any ideas on how to handle the following situations, or have any other scenerios to add, please share!.

ex wants to be free to remarry - ugh

ok, i'm sure i am not the first one to be in this predicament but it sure is a headache, my jw ex called a few days ago, apparently she has met someone (they're not dating of course!

) and she wants to me to hand over the golden ticket.

she wants confirmation either in writing or verbally to a third party, that she is "scripturally free" to remarry.. i have managed for years now to avoid any judicial action and my jw family members still associate with me, but that all could come to a screeching halt if i give her what she wants.. the only bright side is she totally robbed me on the divorce; if she gets married i am at least off the hook for "spousal maintenance", that would mean potentially thousands of dollars in my pocket.... .

Just started looking for answers

i was raised as a jw and have several family members who are witnesses, including my mother.

while i love and respect her very much i was very resentful of being raised in "the truth".

there are several reasons but the main one is the way i was "counseled" and ultimately publically pointed out as a bad associate.

Adam Naming the Animals ... Did It Take THAT Long ???

the bible speaks about adam naming the animals in the garden of eden.. any thoughts about how long that would have taken ???.

i mean, you have steve and betty the sheep, mike and nancy the dogs, miguel and maria the zebras, irv and amanda the cats, etc, etc, etc.. it doesn't seem like it would take a long period of time.

plus, he was alone at the time so he wasn't getting pestered from his wife and kids about what the names should be.
