Does anyone know if there is a scan of the original WT article on the NET that I can print off to prove that this text was changed in the BV and CDrom?

Alan, Thank you for reposting this information as I was not here when it was first posted.
Was not Ray Franz on the GB during the time when these things were going on? Can anything be confirmed with Ray?

British And American Intercourse.
by Englishman inok, america, this is it.
you have got to start learning english english at some point or another, after all, us brits are having to learn american english to be able to understand all those films (movies) about how you saved our arses (butts) during the 1939 -1945 (1941 - 1945) war.. now we all know the obvious ones, such as you calling a car bonnet the hood, the boot is the trunk and a spanner being a wrench etc etc.
plus the fact that you eat fries instead of chips and spread mayo instead of butter.

Questions for JWs
by larc indear jw,.
i have some questions.
as i understand it, if armageddon came tomorrow, those that never heard the truth, in such places as india or china would either live through armageddon or die and be resurrected.
-
Stealth
Like most JW's who begin to study our families are the first persons we want to share our new found "truth" with. Now if our family members reject this message then they will be destroyed forever in the big "A". However if they die before Armageddon they will receive a resurection.
So wouldn't it be the loving thing to either not tell them, because they might reject it and die?
Or if our family did reject the message would it not be the loving thing to kill our family members now so they will have life everlasting?
Who of us would not do anything to ensure everlasting life for our entire family and loved ones. Telling them the message of this Religion would almost certainly lead to your belief that they will be destroyed if they do not accept your new religion.
Sounds like cult mentality to me.

AlanF,
It is my understanding that Carl Olof Jonsson was a JW at the time that he sent a letter to the Society about his 606/607 research, and the Society did not even reply to him for years but only told him to keep his mouth shut about it. Is this true? If so, I think it shows how much good it does to write the society and they take it serious.
I have already picked up “In Search of Christian Freedom” at the university library. It is a very well written book and I find it hard to put down once I start reading it. I will check out some of the other resources that you mentioned.
After I was able to shed the apostate phobia and began my second round of 607 research this site:
* http://www.geocities.com/osarsif/index2.htm
was one that proved very helpful and filled in many of the holes that I just could not get from the resources at the university library. I think I will order Carl's book today.Stealth

Should you write to the society?
by sleepy inwhen someone comes across something in the "truth" that disterbs them should they write to the society or is this pointless?.
i think they should write for several reasons.. 1.you must give them at least a chance to present their side of the story.it is no good just relying for others for your information you can not be shure what the society really belive until you hear it from them yourself.. wasn't just relying on the judgement of others part of what got you in in the first place.. its good for us to try and advance in our way of thinking during life and part of this involves doing our own research which is not complete until we go to the source of our conflict.. also if you bring up the point with someone it gives more weight to your argument if mention you wrote to the society and this was their answer.. 2. the more poeple that write in with the same points the more difficult it will be for them to hold to an erroneous stand.. the more different people that write the more ways of expresing the point will be heared different ways will make sence to different people.. remember its not just the same person answering all letters but different people who will have to do research an answer your point, which could make them think.. (this assumes that the society is genuinely mistaken and not corupt, although it could be a bit of both).
of cource if you do not want hassle off your elders dont tell the society you are a brother/sister or just give a different name ,prehaps you could give the address of your place of work or somewhere else if you don't want to be traced easily.. in my case i just made it sound like i was an intrested person.. or you could make out that you need some help in presenting the societies case to an intrested person who has quetions.

Sleepy;
You mentioned in another post that you have already written the Society with some of your concerns. You also said that you received a reply. My question to you is:
Did their reply address any of your concerns specifically?
Do you feel that their reply showed genuine concern for you as a Christian?
Do you feel that their reply was personal in nature or just a form letter?
The reason for my asking is that I too am considering writing a letter to the Society. I think that it would help others, to know how they respond in general to these types of letters. If you can share any context of the reply they sent to you it might prove helpful.
It seems like the majority on this DB feel that it is a complete waist of time to do this. If there are any who have actual letters with replies from the Society that can illustrate how this is true I think it could help others who might be contemplating writing a letter.
Sleepy, Email to me privately if you wish, I think we have much in common and are in similar positions in the organization.

Thanks to all for the welcome,
Philo, I was not aware of the 606/607 change until my second round of internet research. It was just another nail in the coffin and proves that 1914 is the date the society will rewrite history to force prophecy to come true for them.
Riz, It's good to know there are others here who were raised in the org. How does your family treat you now that you walked away? If you have any tips on how to make that transistion as painless as possible, please share.
Sleepy, Welcome to you also. Why are you staying in and under cover? I would like to see your letter to the society and their reply if you could scan and email to me. I don't know if it would help to write the society about this, I think they have heard it all before. Do they take any letters serious that are not signed or do they trash them? Just currious.
Utopian Reformist, SAY WHAT? PLEASE TRANSLATE!
Nytelecom1, I agree, I would say that to write a letter to the society would be the second best thing to yelling through a bull horn out in front of the kingdom hall.
gsark, Thanks for the warm welcome. I look forward to new friends and it won't take much to beat the kind of support and friendship that I have gotten from the brotherhood lately.
I like your signature line, it reminds me of another I saw and liked:"Love is like a roller coaster: When it's good you don't want to get off, and when it isn't, you can't wait to throw up."
Individuals wife, If God is going to ruin those ruining the earth, the WTS is in for big trouble with all of the trees they killed printing this trash. I still have not been able to pitch the stuff even though I know it is taking up perfectly good shelf space. :)
Mustang, Great tips, I think I will make some crib notes out of some of these and keep them handy when the elders come a callin. I don't think I will choose the knock-down drag-out fight. I know who will win that one. In this case I think its better to fade away then to burn out.
Thanks to all others for the welcome, I look forward to being a part of the DB.

I have been lurking for a few months now. The only reason that I have not posted until now is because of the paranoia that comes with being raised a JW. My current status in the congregation is irregular, reaching out for the office of inactive. I have much family in the org. and so the reason for the paranoia.
My doubts began during the study of the Daniel book. Around the same time my home schooled daughter was studying world history. One day I grabbed her school book to take into the private reading room and decided to read about the Neo-Babylon period. I noticed that it put the destruction of Jerusalem in 587/586 BCE. I checked two other world history books that were in the house and they gave the same date. Well I was curious as to why the Daniel book did not agree with these history books. I understood how the WTS came up with 607 and I just wanted to know exactly why and how the historians came up with another date.
I began my research by searching the web for “607BCE and Jerusalem”. Well you know where that took me. Being a loyal JW I was determined not to read any apostate info, so I went to a university library and checked out every book I could about the neo Babylon period. I told my family that I was just doing extra research for the book study, as it did prove helpful there also.
After several months of research I gained a better understanding of the secular dating methods for this time period. At this point I decided that all I needed to do was find one expert that would agree with the WTS 607 date and that would be enough to dismiss my doubts. This took me back to the WEB. Well needless to say I could have saved allot of time and effort months earlier before going to the library, but I guess I had to do it my own way to be convinced and get past the apostate stereotyping that was in
Well I could not find any bible scholar, historian, or expert of any kind that was in agreement with the 607 dating for the fall of Jerusalem.
So my journey brings me here. There are allot more bizarre chapters in my story that I will share at anther time.
I am glad that I have found this place. I can honestly say that I have learned more in the short time lurking here compared to decades at the kingdom hall.
