hello.. I always like to come back here and see those who are still in (but faking it, like me), those who are about to be out, and angry, those who are out and angry, and those who are out but sanguine (sp?)) anyway.. despite all the undoubted and unargauble arguments about the WBTS I just think its funny when y'all talk about the watchtower people being in it for the money...honestly, the bethel people, the elders (I know quite a few in the US and UK bethels), honestly, have you seen, their houses (if they have them), or their cars, or their suits, or their watches, or their shoes?) even the branch people and the GB, honestly, these guys are not in it for the money, for the security maybe, a distasteful realisation many years ago that they have chosen the wrong path, that maybe they should have gone to university after all, but are stuck working as postmen (or overseers of packaging depts).. they are so not in it for the money, just personal mental security, you cant be overtly rich in and in the upper echelons of the organisation.. you are just in it for comfort, not to have to try and join the commercial world with no education or experienc4e at 45+ (and yes i am a hypocrite, and tied into a cult, and told what to do by the oppressors, but i have a lovely wife and lovely family to attend to, what are you gonna do? we are all gonna die soon, whats the point of getting all angry about the social circle we were born into?) discuss..

SHOW ME THE MONEY!
by conoroberst ini am an active (but leftfield) jw, who visits here periodically, one of the things that i have never understood is certain posters assertions that the wtbts is a money making scheme.. i was just wondering where these people think the money goes, has anyone here ever seen as ostentatious elder (in full time service) or gb member, or anyone who relies on the wtbts for their income with a rolex on?.
i havent, any elders or cos i have met with wealth are from their careers before going full time....all these people who quote the society's $1bn turnover seem to think some people are asking it in, if you do the math $1bn split between 6m supporters is really not much at all.... allll i would say is, show me the money :).

Elder occupations
by Iforget inmy dad is an elder.
he is one of the most level headed compassionte men you will ever meet.
even though he never received a college education he was kind and understanding.
-
conoroberst
so you think a four year course in law or accountancy would help a person get over a divorce, or a merchant banker or doctor would make a more effective shepherd,
how does a job that society deems as worthy or a college education make a person a better (or worse) minister,...it is not in the wtiness mindset to go to higher education as they/we (mistakenly possibly) believe that these are the last days...
Yeah I am sure that we were all architects we would be much more christ like..

So When and Why Did They Stop Feeding People At Assemblies?
by Englishman init seems nuts to me.
the feeding of umpteen thousand using voliunteers was their "in" with all the local press.
i know that cafeterias were still in use in '72 when i left.

dunno about bristol, but it happened in dudley, the kitchens and the newly converted dining hall.
i dont know what the others were on about though about not charging and tax breaks etc, as far as I can recall meals were always charged for (with those tear off tokens), I for one dont give two hoots about the lack of food though the bacon baps were nice at the start of the convention , far too much work went into making them though, but it made it much more of an event, especially cleaning the nasty ovens at the wolves ground (for teh americans, that is the Wolverhampton Wanderers FC soccer ground)

oh dear hillbilly looks like you are shooting from the hip...
yes i have seen the world from a professional and tourist standpoint, having spent two years travelling after my mastes degree, (in asia and west africa), and laterly i usually spend about two months out of the country in my role as a corporate responsibility consultant.
Yes, i have also traevlled through airports in about 75% of ;European capitals but am not quite sure what you are talking about.
No, I didnt vote last week, what elections did I miss in the UK. No I am not on the town council as i am not ac ouncillor and have no desire to be one
As regards charities, though i am afiliated to several i only practically (as oposed to financially) support two of them Greenpeace in their Stop Esso Campaign and Shelter with working with the homeless, although obviously in my consultancy i come into contact with many charities and NGOs
Which particular points on the list did you not agree with, I can provide you with references -

yep, something is strange about the $951m if it cops up year after year..
However, remember this is REVENUE not PROFIT
Do we know how much of this is expended in cost in the US bearing in mind the US covers all of the "Head Office" costs too.(and yes of course staff costs are reduced, but all othe Fixed and variable costs aren't)
Do we know how much of this money is sent out to other countries.
Irrespective of the other two figures amongst (say) 1,000,000 publishers, let alone associated ones and attenders $951 dollars each is not alot of money...if the society are just in it for the money they obviously need to do a lot better.

couple of topics from a newbi
by Brummie insince i'm new here you may already know about this, i didnt have time to go through the 5 billion archived posts on this board to see if they had already been discussed.. .
1) bill bowen when he was in england related how jws would drive past his house and keep on honking their car horns (to intimidate)...so he put up a poster outside his house saying "honk for silentlambs"..hahahahahahaahahah , that was a pretty darn cool response huh.
things had never been so quiet after that!.

sorry to disappoint you , even by my relatively high aesthetic standards Dudley Assembley Hall is looking pretty cool these days, down to the water feature in the lobby, the video screen on the stage and the marble (ok but they look like marble) in the foyer..
now manchester assembly hall, that is quite bad, despite the refurb...
