the melbourne cup is "the race that stops a nation" and it's on tomorrow.
it's a public holiday in victoria (melbourne being the capital city of victoria) - elsewhere it's a working day - but not much work gets done in many workplaces across australia.
in the morning, the "sweep" gets organised, then it's an extended lunch which culminates in watching the race.. as a jw i used to find the melbourne cup quite embarrassing, constantly having to explain - no, i don't want a ticket in the sweep, no, i haven't got a horse, no my horse didn't win, i didn't have a ticket...and on and on.
Melbourne Cup afternoon used to be extremely good at the old Public Service office I worked at. Some good nibblies and fine wines to wash them down. Then the race.
my well has dried up.so i go down to the creek where i gold pan,for water..the creeks are freezing up here,so the water is dam cold.if you stood in the water for a few minutes your feet would go numb.the current may even knock you off your feet..i`ve seen some wildlife in these mountains that i haven`t seen before.i`m new to this area of the mountains..yesterday when i was down at the creek,a few small birds flew in and stood on the rocks in the creek..tiny birds, about as big as a sparrow.charcoal in colour and thier feet were not webbed..these tiny birds would dive in to this cold rushing creek, grab food from the bottom ,pop up on a rock and eat thier food..i was suprised they didn`t die of cold or were`nt washed down stream and drowned..this is the first time i have ever seen a land bird do this.i coudn`t stop watching it was so cool..i went back home and worked on the well a bit.i heard this loud flapping above my head,it was a friggin large eagle looking for prey..different wildlife show up as the seasons pass..i wonder what i`ll see next?...outlaw
Hey Outlaw! I hear you mountain men love mount'n women - that true?
I was just thinkin' about you and your mountain lair the other day, doin' the old "if I win Powerball" daydreamin' thing and wondering if a confirmed city boy like me could hack a few days up your neck of the woods. Then I had the thought that if you lived in one of those gold-bearing parts of BC, I'd probably be up there like a shot! I may be a city boy, but I've roughed it in mountain shacks in the depths of winter, waiting for the late rising sun to melt the frozen creek so I can do a little panning. I meant to pose that question to you when next you posted. And then, GoshDarn it, if you haven't pre-empted me!
Do you have nuggetty gold in your area, or is it mainly the fine floury stuff?

I believe he had JW's visit him from all over Australia for his naturopathic stuff.
And people find my distaste for hippies irrational!
i think it was alanf that came up with this:"god chose the isrealites,as his people.the wbt$ chose the jehovah`s witness`s,as gods people".....did the wbt$ clear this with god?..does god do as he`s told,by the wbt$?..would god have a job, without the wbt$?..is god a wienie?..or..is the wbt$ very presumptuous about their position,as spokesman for god?...outlaw
Is the WBT$ Presumptuous?
Do the bears crap in your neck of the woods, Outlaw??
i was watching a program the other day, and it mentioned some interesting things about exploring space.
1. nothing has been found on other planets that we need or would benefit from.
rather the opposite, we have found hostile environments that would kill us.. 2. the cost to get a man to these places is astronomical, and not something that would reap benefit to our planet.. 3. so far, nothing within reasonable traveling distance has shown itself worth an effort that would require man, and would not be done easier with machine.. so with this in mind, other then the travel we see with the space shuttle in our own orbit, that has shown some medical breakthroughs and so on.
Only when it is Government pissing your taxes away on big ticket items like the shuttle programme and the International Space Station. With private investment, where people and organisations spend their own money on stuff, that's different. Only $20m of private money was required in 2003 to break out of the atmosphere in Spaceship One, whereas the Mercury programme was probably more than that in the early 60s, even before adjustment for inflation. The need for big government involvment in space is dwindling. Weapons platforms and space races are giving way to sub-orbital passenger flight and space tourism. Bring it on!
So John Kerry is the Republicans' "October surprise"?
i'll admit that for as far back as i can remember, i've picked up little crushes on celebrities.
i think one of my first crushes was on olivia newton-john after seeing her in grease at 5 years old and later in xanadu.. i've had crushes on:.
jennifer connelly (labrynth)gwyneth paltrow (hook briefly and later emma)cate blanchett (elizabeth, pushing tin)meredith salenger (the journey of natty gann, but especially, especially, in dream a little dream)kate beckingsale (much ado about nothing, cold comfort farm (not underworld, though she's smokin' in that.
I gave up on celebrity crushes a long time ago. I mean, what's it for? It's not like you're ever going to meet these people and have a chance to have anything meaningful going with them. And you're not likely to catch their eye out of the crowds of fawning fans. And these people seem very shallow - just look at the ephemeral and petty natures of the relationships they do tend to form. Personally I think us average, everyday, common people live more useful and productive lives, and where it counts, have more to give. Celebrities tend to be leeches whose lives have no meaning unless they're dominating your attention and have the spotlight on them.
