Mommie Dark:yes, I agree with you, the judge was quite fair considering it was an individual case and not a suit against the corporate entity.
While I'd like to see more of this: ordinary citizens exercising their rights in the face of JWs stepping over the bounds of ordinary moral behaviour and good taste, it might cut both ways. After all there are plenty of stories of being threatened with being shot, and having dogs set upon them even when there is no "No Trespassing" sign; it could make the Dubs really look like the martyrs they claim to be if they were to exercise their own rights in the face of excessive force.
Sorry folks, but the trip to the local KH didn't happen. One of those things: a suspected heroin addict we know came around complaining of lack of money on Saturday night, so we didn't think it safe to leave the house vacant on Sunday morning while the rest of the family went to (the local presbyterian) church; as it turned out, the boys ended up staying home because they weren't well and the weather was cold.
I'll probably still go next week; the local KH has two congregations sharing it, Autinmer and Bulli; the Bulli congregation covers my local area and the people there know me, so I'll go to the Austinmer meeting!
As for background, I've never been trapped in the 'Tower, so to speak, but I lived in a spiritually abusive situation for 6 years in a "discipleship house" run by a pentecostal church. The 'Tower doesn't have the monopoly on institutional spiritual abuse, but they certainly have refined it to the level of an art-form. My coming to this board is a way of dealing with my own past victimisation; reading the stories of how people coped with the WTS and its aftermath is helpful in dealing with the demons of my own past. I also greatly resented that members of the WTS community made fun of my daughter's death 3 years ago; any organisation which encourages that sort of behaviour is sick and needs to be put down!
As for going to a KH meeting, if I go to an Austinmer cong meeting, noone will know me (unless there's some Austi lurker here who can warn them!), so I'll be safe from being either ignored (hopefully) or love bombed. I'm not planning on dressing in any way which they'd approve of (checked shirt and jeans!).

Actually, reading Fred's response to SilentLambs, he couldn't possibly be Ray Franz (I only said that tongue-in-cheek of course) because Ray wouldn't be so unkind to the victims of WBTS closing-of-the-ranks-to-protect-the-Society's-image. This paedophilia issue is beyond Fred; he has no children of his own, so he can't identify with the protective instincts of parents who realise how vulnerable their children can be in the big bag world (and the KH is no haven!) This issue really burns him up because it forcefully highlights the true evil nature of the Society; in no other area is the 'Tower's favouring of the strong over the weak so evident than in silencing children who are used by depraved adults. I actually don't blame Fred too much for being heartless, uncaring and a willing participant in the coverup; he isn't a parent and can't understand the horror that the whole paedophilia issue is to parents who trusted the Society to protect their little ones. The Society itself has always taught parents not to love their children too much: no presents or chocolate eggs, no non-Tower social or sports activities, no tertiary education, denial of medical treatment which could save a child's life, making kids sit through boring adult-oriented meetings in a KH; that Fred thinks the way he does just shows how effectively he too has been victimised by the 'Tower. And like many victims, he feels a misplaced loyalty and a need to defend the org which has done this to him and robbed him iof his humanity.
I also apologise to Ray Franz for making the comparison!
BTW, does anyone know what Ray's take is on this whole SilentLambs issue?

I think the judge was excercising a sense of justice by calculating a reasonable figure that was payable by the defendent, rather than simply enriching the plaintiff. Let's not let hatred for the Borg make us lose site of the fact that DiStefano is simply R&F, following orders. She's a victim of Brooklyn and its mad policies as much as the householder; it was her before the court, not the WBTS, with its bottomless pockets. She took the fall for the Boys in Brooklyn. The judge was quite right to find in favour of the plaintiff, but to limit the financial damage to DiStefano.
i, along with many others here, saw on the wt official website, in the faqs section, their answer to the question "do jw's shun former memebers?"..
we've posted many comments on their response on various threads, such as on qwerty's topic "wt-faq on shunning--" just yesterday.. this morning i went to that site to copy it, and it seems to be gone....unless i'm not awake yet.. is it gone or did i somehow miss it?.
also....i did a 'search' on their official site, on the word "shunning" ... result was "no results" so i changed it to "disfellowshipping" and the article on "child custody" came back as the only reference.
Two possibilities: 1. There's some pretty sensitive Brooklynites out there, who react badly to every apostate attack on their hypocrisy,
or, 2. They change the FAQ's content regularly and rapidly (a moving target is harder to hit!)
A 3rd possibility: the FAQ is down for maintenance.

Unlike some, I don't think Fred is actually Steve Klemetti; the latter just doesn't have the raw, inflammatory style which Fred has, he is a little too sophisticated. I've begun to think , like others that Fred is not a dub in good standing, but an ex-Dub. It also occurred to me that perhaps Fred is nothing like what he pretends to be: an apologist for the WTS Empire. Someone who is so effective in strengthening the anti-'Tower feeling that Fred generates must have an alterior motive and an alter ego. I think Fred is actually an ex-Dub on a mission; a mission to make the 'Tower look as foolish as possible and to remind the apostates of what it was that made them leave the WBTS. My take: Fred is actually Ray Franz; reminding the "apostates" of the difference beteen true Christianity (the self-sacrificing, helping the poor kind) and the Watchtower kind (self-serving, willing to sacrifice the defenceless-to-maintain-the-facade-of-purity). Well done, Fred (or Ray!) you're doing a great service to those trapped in the 'Tower! Keep reminding them of the hypocrisy of that which we know as the WBTS!

Well done, Norm, I just "LOVE" your posts. Like a high school senior on prom night, the WTS without a date is a rather pathetic figure... I wonder if they're going to bite the bullet one day and either run things the way they always have, i.e. have a charismatic figure at the helm making weird pronouncements with a clear date of "The End"(tm), or will they admit wrongdoing and take it on the chin; emerging poorer in numbers and dollars, but richer in a spiritual sense. The 3rd way is to just drift along doing damage control; exactly what they're doing at the mo!

Its considerd your disassociating yourself from the congregation, no judicial committie or any other thing. When you do it. you leave the congregation on your own. SO NO one Has EVER Been Disfellowshipped for a blood transfusion, because its never been a df'able thing.
