What is Stafford's official standing in the Org? I mean, he ain't Bethel, so nothing he writes can be considered authoritative. So what attitude does Bethel have towards him and his writings? They wouldn't encourage R&F to read his books, as this would take attention (and money) away from the FDS; so why do they tolerate him being in competition to him? And if he's so damned intelligent and loyal, why don't they simply assimilate him into the Bethel Brethren?

I'll be wearing that get-up if it's raining, Ozzie. It's my old prospecting raincoat; I hear UncleBruce has an old gold mine on his weekender; should be interesting...

by ozziepost inas you all know, those of us who are in the confines of the penal colony of new south wales will be getting together for a bbq gettogether next sunday may 27th.
so if you live near sydney or within a reasonable travelling time and you like the idea of getting together for talking, sharing experiences, whatever, get the details of the time and location, and the security arrangements by e-mailing [email protected].
now, are you ready for today's lesson?

True rhyming slang drops the bit that rhymes, generally. Thus: "A load of old cobblers' awls (balls!)" becomes "A load of old cobblers". "Plates of meat (feet)" becomes "plates", and so on. In Oz, courtesy of the fact that the early settlers were originally prisoners and their warders from the East End of London, we too have a heritage of rhyming slang. I also find it interesting that until recently, any attempt by Americans on TV to do an Aussie accent ended up sounding Cockney. Rocko's Modern Life is one of the first shows which has an almost passable Aussie accent.

Okay, UncleBruce, I'll ring you sometime soon. (Thanks!) Now, what was that password again: "The breeze in the sewers of Paris is brisk this time of year"?

Come on People! This is a genuine cry for help; surely a poor Samaritan can get a lift to the BBQ if I meet you somewhere on your way. The trouble with this venue is that it is no good for someone like me who depends upon public transport. Perhaps a venue change for the next one...

I wonder if a serious decline in US numbers would see a fast-tracking of those reforms which we are all expecting to happen soon. Your mention of the approaches in Japan towards the DFed to get them back into the fold sounds like the Society may be willing to rethink the disfellowshipping issue. Not before time, too.
