Memories from the Edge

when waking up it often isn't an instant switch, there's a period of time when your conflicted feelings are heightened and most uncomfortable.

can anyone remember specific instances in the time before you fully woke up that made you uncomfortable or guilty, despite you still being a 'believer'?.

i can think of two right now, both about a year or two before i woke up:.

I think I had a lot of those, but one of the big ones was the convention with the bunker videos. At that time, I was a die hard witness, I would literally rehearse my arguements defending my religion for opposers in service. But when I saw those bunker videos, my jaw silently dropped, I was very uncomfortable by them. I felt like it was a quite overboard and I actually felt a little embarrassed by it. But I just overlooked it and tried to keep my feelings inside.

And before my pioneering “privlege” was taken, I was starting to get really bored and frustrated going out in service. I was spending way more time with these wacky delusional bigots who talked about health problems waaaay more than I was talking to anyone about the Bible.

they get married young from 18-22 years old, and think that they know how they’re going to feel the rest of their lives about having children, (which they think will be never).

i respect people who don’t want to have kids, there are good reasons not to, but i think it’s foolish at a young age to think you will never think differently for the rest of your life.

@i believe in overlapping , i completely understand and respect your viewpoint. I don’t think all families end up that way though, many families stay close for the rest of their life. If my family weren’t all witnesses, I would feel like the luckiest person alive. We take road trips all together, have family dinners and bonfires, and have a great time together. And I think I would be very happy and proud of my child for getting a successful life of their own someday, I wouldn’t be bitter about it and view them as selfish. They’re are a lot of joys to parenthood, and it can be very satisfying and fullfilling, but’s its not for everybody. This post is about people who don’t want to have kids because of their fanatical paranoid religious reasons.

Me and my fiancé can’t wait to start a family, and we get a lot of crap and judgment for it. Oh, why would you want to have children when there is so much to do in Jehovah’s organization -_-, and the stupidest thing they say, “Aren’t you scared of the baby starts crying during Armageddon if we are in hiding?” Seriously?!? Jehovah’s witnesses are one of the only religions I’ve seen where people are against reproducing. I don’t know if witnesses are like this in all areas, but in quite a few areas I’ve been around, no body is keen on the idea of having a family. I feel really bad for them because a few of the girls I know actually do want to have kids, but them an they’re husbands agreed that they should “put Kingdom interest first” or “this world is too hard to raise children, especially since transgender people are allowed to use the opposite sex bathrooms nowadays”.” They are really going to be sad and bitter when they are in their 70s and have no family that they always longed for.

Even when I was a believing witness, I didn’t see the big deal. It’s not like we live in a 3rd world country, we have free education, healthy food, transportation, and other things that make life easier. And about the whole Armageddon thing, I never thought Jehovah would have our backs and protect us during Armageddon.

Like I said, I completely understand why some people don’t want to have kids, it’s just so annoying and weird the witness view point on it.

of course i felt very guilty, because of all the sick and heartbroken people who needed a perfect world to live in.

but there are a lot of nice parts of life i was going to secretly miss.

Was I the only one who secretly dreaded the new system of things a little bit when I was a believing witness? Of course I felt very guilty, because of all the sick and heartbroken people who needed a perfect world to live in. But there are a lot of nice parts of life I was going to secretly miss. Like amusement parks, “worldly music”, movies and tv shows, technology, go karts, riding scooters, cars, and even the “worldly” people around me I was going to miss, because it was honestly nice to get away from witnesses sometimes. Especially when I was tired of self righteous opinions and getting judged, it was relieving to be around people at work and talk about guys, sex, tv shows, or politics without worrying about the repercussions. I think at the time, I didn’t even realize I felt this way about worldly people, it was more sub conscience.

I was also dreading the new system because I knew that god would be a lot harsher and more strict, and I thought that maybe even thinking a dirty or negative thought could turn me into burnt toast from a lightning bolt.

Was it just me, or were you guys looking forward to it?

@sir82 yes exactly, that’s pretty much how it goes, and then you might be “privledged” enough to go into one of the little office rooms and have one of the workers explain how they run their $15,000 machine so they can make signs for the bathroom doors

The paranormal.

i know that a lot of the people on here have turned their backs on the idea of a deity deciding that god does not exist.

but what about the unseen spirit world generally such as poltergeists, jinns, voodoo, etc.

if you have become agnostic, atheist, or just don't care since leaving, do you think that there are spirits out there or have you decided that is also hokum?

I am pretty agnostic but I do believe in spirits. There has been a few times in my life where I’ve heard what is CLEARLY footsteps walking up the stairs and around the upstairs of the house I live in, when there is defenitly no one else at home. I know what footsteps sound like, I’ve been hearing them in this house for years from everyone, and a few weeks ago I clearly heard them. It’s creepy but I just try to ignore it and I think it will ignore me, who knows. I also work at a nursing home where people die quite often, and people who tell me about how they would see ghost, I never believed it. But one day I was in an empty room by myself washing my hands, I looked up in the mirror and I saw behind me an old man walking, I ran out so fast! I swore I know what I saw, but who knows. I feel like there’s defenitly things we don’t know about this world and universe

I recently had to take a trip with my family to Bethel. It was a bit torturous for a secret apostate as you can imagine. But mostly just so boring. Walking around looking at the different machinery that you couldn’t pay me to be interested in learning about. Why do people visit here more than once in their life, it’s just a bunch of machines and printeries, who cares? We even were privleged enough to get to go down down stairs and see the heating and cooling system, how awesome!!

And parents are supposed to want to bring their kids here more than Disney world? It is so much more special and important to show your child a big printing machine and a cardboard poster of Caleb and Sofia than a fun and exciting amusement park or a beautiful beach. I feel so sorry for people who travel half way across the country or the world and drag their kids along with them.

Also, did you know that at meal times, women are not allowed to sit at the end of a table, or the foot or whatever they call it, only men are allowed to sit there, because it represents the “head” of the table -_-. I almost sat there because the seats were running out, and I was told sorry, no women allowed to sit there. Unbelievable!!! They really have to enforce their sexism with the smallest things??

I did think it was funny though, how whenever I asked someone about the olympic sized heated swimming pool, they acted very awkward and uncomfortable, like we weren’t supposed to know about it! I thought I would give it a try and ask if we could see it, of course we could not ;)

his mom hardly goes to the meetings or out in service, she’s quite inactive, his sister is a bit more active and serious about it.

so my fiancé found out that his mom and sister, both baptized, went to a halloween party last night, dressed up and everything, with his step dad, who’s not a jw.

his mom hardly goes to the meetings or out in service, she’s quite inactive, his sister is a bit more active and serious about it.

i thought it was pretty bold even for someone who’s not a die hard witness.

Yes I was going through a rough time and I was feeling pretty depressed and critical towards him, but when I took a step I realized that things with him were not as bad as I thought. I truly enjoy being with him, and we’ve spent ALOT of time alone, he is a very hard worker, and has the same values and beliefs as me. He truly understands me, protects me, and cares deeply for me, and I do the same for him. I know it’s a bit embarrassing that I made a post unsure about our relationship, but we have figured things out, and I am sure we will have a very happy life together, even if it is spent fading at first. This is the best way to do things for my personal situation, as we are buying a house together, and changing our lives a lot, it would be too stressful having another dramatic change in my life trying to drop out of the JW suddenly and have no support or social contacts at all.

So my Fiancé found out that his mom and sister, both baptized, went to a Halloween party last night, dressed up and everything, with his step dad, who’s not a jw. His mom hardly goes to the meetings or out in service, she’s quite inactive, his sister is a bit more active and serious about it. I thought it was pretty bold even for someone who’s not a die hard witness. She hid it from my Fiancé, probably thinking he might snitch on them on something, but he saw pictures of it on Facebook. He’s going to try to respectfully get her to open up about it, but who knows. Maybe she is justifying it, thinking it was just a party and she wasn’t celebrating. I am partly very happy and hopeful (maybe we will have family to celebrate holidays with after all) but also worried for her, the people who posted the picture have a public Facebook page so hopefully no one sees it, otherwise she will surely be disfellowshipped, especially for taking her young daughter too. Do you guys think she still believes in the jw beliefs? Have you ever seen something like this or done it yourself?
