by NCC-1701 inif this topic has appeared in the forum before, please accept my apologies.. just wanted to share what i wrote about jason beduhn's handling of phillip harner's article in the journal of biblical literature (1973) in the book, "truth in translation" for those who may have their own copy of it.. it's a bit lenghthy, but i wanted to record as much of harner's thoughts as possible to understand his position.
i hope it is helpful to someone.. .
a friend recently offered his copy of jason david beduhn's "truth in translation" for me to read.

A Couple Points about New Elders Child Abuse Letter Directions ...........
by flipper inin aragon's thread which has reached 6 pages a couple of points were touched on that i wanted to bring out but thought these points deserved a whole thread to dissect and discuss them.. first off : there seems to be a total hypocrisy , arrogance, or typical speaking out of both sides of their mouth when the wt instructions in the letter says :.
" the branch office, not the local body of elders, determines whether an individual who has sexually abused children in the past will be considered a ' predator ' .
then this quote from the 1997 wt instructions : " and the congregation cannot read hearts to tell who is and who is not liable to molest children again.

Hi Flipper,
I deleted my thread "Pre-2000 Tactics To Avoid Disfellowshiping For Child Sexual Abuse" , the reason I deleted the thread, was I did not want to bring up another negative thread. I should have left the post anyways, it might provide you with a better understanding why the Society worded the new letter the way they did. Here is part of my thread I deleted, it should provide you with insights and I think one of those behind the new thinking was one of the individuals I dealt with fifteen years ago.
A child sex-offender received the 1997 Elder Body Letter before the rest of the Kingdom Halls were given this insight gem. This elder had commited disgraceful folly with a child while he was appointed, time had pasted and his victim never came forward. He along with a few other elders who had "secret sin's" approached their favorite elders and confessed their sins. One of the most famous T.O.s (his name is very common to all readers of the magazines) was informed of these pre-1997 "Letter to the Body of Elders" confessions. The strangest cover up took place, no elder who came forward in this area had to bring it to the attention of their victims, no judicial committe was composed, it was all swept under the carpet. I dug deeper and found some even more strange things, the Society either was stupid, played dumb or never was imformed. If they were never imformed, was it the TOs fault, the POs fault or who?
One of the worse offending elders was finally taken down after one of the other elders started off on his bad ways again. He pointed out the sins of the elder who was trying to remove him, were far worse than his, it did not work but it started to spread around, as more elders found out of the strange "back room secrets being kept", another TO found out, he tried to unwind what the previous TO did, but he was told to "Shut Up!", I was told and "Don't bring this matter up again (You can guess who has authority to tell him to shut up!). This frankensteins-elders were the most wicked, heartless and compassionless as they attacked young ones for pre-martial sex. I don't wan't to divulge anymore than this, I know one elder who visits this site and was part of this situation too, he was suppose to back me up when all Hell was busting loose, he melted down like the coward he is. I wonder who gave the elder a copy of the letter far in advance of it's consumption for the regular congregation? The elder had friends in the department that was shaping this letter, so it's not a huge guess for me, since I know his friends well.
Allow me to point out one more thing, when some of the victims found out, they went ballastic and elders from different congregations tried to muzzle them by saying "You can be disfellowshiped for gossiping", to date October 2012, none, of the original elders were disfellowshiped for holding onto their secret sins for decades(it was thought that their consciences bothering them for decades was enough punishment and Jehovah would have removed them earlier, if they were actually bad men (how's that for reasoning?)), the damage by one elder is easily seen by his children, taking anti-psychotics and weighing close to 400lbs at age 26 is not her normal (she weighed 130 at age 18) self, she is suffering from horrible anxiety and panick attacks, she told me she "hated herself and felt disgusting" but refused to talk why she feels so ugly and worthless. I think I know.

If you believe God exists, what are your thoughts on what pleases him most?
by Fernando inour family has come to believe that god really wants each individual to personally and independently seek, find and walk with him - quite apart from what other humans say, think, believe or do.. we believe we were created as semi-autonomous beings.
when our inner compass is recalibrated, and we then self-direct, the outcomes seem best.. when we are instead led by humans, their hierarchies, organisations and ideas, the outcomes on the whole seem unfavourable.
legalism (rules), moralism (a moral code), ethnocentrism (doctrine), and gnosticism (knowledge) may seem meritorious.. yet these do not seem to lead to the deep inner transformation needed.

Fernando, were you able to overcome the guilt so many JWs and ex-JWs are battling on a daily basis? What is your secret to success, please share this with others on JWN, I know some who have no guilt, but they also lack a conscience and have no heart. These ones, I call the neo-pharisees, they put to shame their first century counterparts, the Pharisees.
Trying to be a real Christian is a challenge, as a JW it was very easy to ignore the plight of others in the World. Praying for everyone in the World is new, I never heard a prayer from the platform praying for everyone, just the fellow Witnesses around the World. Has your style of prayer changed since divorcing yourself from the Organization's selfishness? Do you view other Christians in various denominations as Christians, the ones who follow his command Jesus emphasized on Earth?

We need to nail the Organization for their crazy teachings, has anyone posted the "outline" that teaches a "Rapture" style belief for the 2013 Memorial Outline?
The letter to all Congregations regarding child sex abuse and how "repentful former sex-offeners could qualify to serve the congregation" establishing themselves as "reputable or God's appointed servants" in the eyes of unthinking dubs? This troubles me and show's how desperate the Org is becoming, who is liable with this new teaching, if the Org allows the elders to appoint or provide services Congregation-wide, who get's sued if the elders knowingly appointed a sex-offender who violated children twenty years ago, but appears in "good standing" now? The liability of appointing anyone with a checkered past of child sexual-abuse scares me!

Rebels in Syria took out members from a Christian church and killed the husband and wife this week. The rebels are taking a hard stance against the minority Christians in Syria, they have a strange way of wanting help from the rest of the World. Radical zealouts in Indonesia closed down all their Christian churches in one Sharia Law Providence, I don't think they want peace and freedom for women either!

The WT proves again that it does not understand Child Psychology
by Christ Alone ini posted this elsewhere, but wanted to create a thread about this specifically.
here is one way that i think the wt is absolutely wrong in it's advice on raising children:.
in the 1/13 awake they talk about mistakes that parents make with their children.

I turned on Christian Radio and Janet Parcial had a guest on this very subject matter I posted above, how strange!
Broken I am very sorry your parents did not respect the hard work you displayed to acheive high "mark's in school. The focus was to get our kids out of school as fast as possible and either get them into the "Pioneer Service" with no Trade School education or lie to everyone by claiming "I want to go to Bethel, it's the right thing to do!" when these kids and parents had no intention of sending their kids there!
You are part of the Lost Generation of the 1950s-1990s where the majority of parents were not impressed if their kids were graduating in the top of the class. I heard my share of talks from every level of the Ponzi Scheme down-playing all the hard work the children were accomplishing in school. I regret I allowed my mind to think these men had God backing them up, when all the signals were flickering "Caution". Good Job with your A grades in High School, you are smart!

Jehovah's Witnesses DO NOT break up families

irondork, this is a very touchy subject, what if some lurker who does not know your jesting thinks your a JW Apologist defending the religion that's brilliant at divide and conqueor?
I don't know if you are one who has experienced the painful attacks by holy-roller dubs, a thread I posted previously to yours was of some girl who lamented how wicked her family treats here. I know a girl in Idaho who came forward with allegations against her elder dad of abuse, she lost all seven of her siblings, even though two of her sisters were abused by Pappy. It's more important to keep the pretense of "strong family unity with the half-Truth, than to admitt there is something very wrong in Watchtower Land."

The Watchtower needs to hire people (writers) who understand what they are writing about, not some hacks who regurgitate some rogue study done by one or to social science workers.
We regress back to pre-1950s psychoanalysis of the infant/child's bond with hers/his relationship with Mother. Old shrinks believed newly born and young babies were not interested in affection or love, their crying was related to their need to feed or have their behind's changed.
"The second viewpoint of this time period was that of the behaviorists. John Locke appeared centuries before one of the most well-known behaviorist, John B. Watson, and held the belief that children are born "blank slates" and that the environment could completely shape them into the people they would become. They warned that motherly affection toward children was dangerous, and that children should be treated as young adults. Robert Karen (1994) states, "In his famous 1928 book on child rearing, Watson wrote: 'Treat them as though they were young adults. Dress them, bathe them with care and circumspection. Let your behavior always be objective and kindly firm. Never hug and kiss them, never let them sit on your lap. If you must, kiss them once on the forehead when they say goodnight. Shake hands with them in the morning. Give them a pat on the head if they have made an extraordinary good job of a difficult task'" (p. 3). The behaviorists were perhaps the first "baby trainers" believing that as long as the infant's physical needs were met within a strict schedule, the infant should not be coddled. Sadly, some people still hold this belief in today's society as shall be discussed later in this paper

The Slave love to have the friends run up to them at Conventions and say "What a fantastic talk you gave (even though it was trash, I remember listening to Fred Franz give a talk in the 1990s down in San Diego via telephone link. It was horrible and the crowd cheered like Jesus Christ was giving the part!) The moral of this story, don't praise the "Snakes in Suits" from Bethel, treat them the way "Harry Harlow" treated the Rhesus monkies that received no attention and fell apart.
I would love to know what "Erikson" (the greatest child psychologist ever, who loved getting the message out to change how parents needed to provide attention, love and praise to these little attention magnates!) would have thought of this new-lite from the Dubs on "overly praising children, instead of dread and chronic guilt the Slave prey's off, kids have self-esteem and feel good about themselves! I would love to debunk their sources, the only ones who feel self-entitled are the little dubs who left school in fifth-grade, never graduated and hit the field circus route. The kids are praised at Kingdom Halls for being a societal drag, providing nothing of tangible value to their community. What a sham!
