  New Pope will be named Peter

  i remember reading somewhere in regards to a a 'prophet' of sorts who had predicted all the popes that have been chosen.. his 'prophecy' stated that the next pope (since benedict has resigned) would be the last before the 'end' would come.

  his name would be pope peter.. let's see what happens.

  we are suppose to know who the next pope will be before easter..

  What's wrong with the way we interpret prophecy?

  i've posted this somewhere else, but i think it's worth some discussion here as well.

  the original thread revolves around the interpretation of the time for the great tribulation to occurr.

  i've pointed out if the problems we ran into in the past and present about interpreting prophecies are troubled by the false premise that we are living in the "last days".. .

  No actually the stumbling block is believing that god is gonna destroy the world. You write of the history of Millerism and deride those who have set dates for the end of the world. But you still think the end is coming but weasel out by not saying when. In essence you are exactly the same as those date-setters you have just exposed, but just not as bold.

  So you look forward to deaths of billions and the end of life on earth? Yeah "that's great" alright. One of the reasons I left the JWs was because of their gloating attitude to Armageddon. How could it healthy to rejoice in the violent deaths of so many innocent people? And here you are doing exactly that.

  This Armageddon fixation is a dangerous thing. You titled your thread "What's wrong with the way we interpret prophecy?". You outline all the past failures. Then you tell us where they all went wrong. Then you proceed to outline the 'correct' way to interpret prophecy. You are just another one in a long line of crazy people who feel the need to preach and sermonise about the end of the world.

  And now you're saying he's the brains of this JW outfit. Not even poor old Satan is THAT evil!

  Far from it actually. He's just a funny old bloke who lives in shack in the country trying to raise a few goats. Now will you all stop giving him a hard time?!!

  I think you might have run off the rails semantically with this line of reasoning Garbonzo. This sentence makes no sense. You can teach anyone anything. And when you do they learn it. Don't matter if its religion, or evolution, or quantity surveying.

  How can you learn something if you aren't taught it? You say you know about evolution. If you do then it was taught to you.

  JW businessman's email about the UN and false religion

  i was shown a hard copy of an email from a purported jw businessman who claimed he had contact with some un officials as part of his 'business'.

  in conversation, he claimed that he blurted out and asked them when they were going to clamp down on religion as foretold in jw prophecy.

  according to the account, the un official acted startled, and asked 'how do you know?'.

  If anyone actually believes that then I have a friend in Nigeria who has come into a large amount of money. Unfortunately the law prevents him from taking the funds out of the country. But if you just email me your bank account details he will very generously share his wealth with you....

  PSac >> God wants people to come ot Him out of love, not fear.

  Every religion uses the this same basic coercive threat to gull people into becoming worshipers. Despite your spin PSac, the result is still the same. You can window dress it as love but ultimately it is still grounded in fear. The message is still the same: worship god how I/we tell you or you die/go to hell etc.

  I guess the thing that make JWs stand out from the pack on this one is the rest of the Christian religions believe they're all going to heaven away from the carnage. JWs are gonna be right here among all the bodies and man there's gonna be a lot of bodies!

  Who Do You Think The "Two Witnesses" In Revelation Are?

  who is to say the "two witnesses" from revelation are not symbolic?

  when we are dealing with revelation how can anyone as wrong as the watchtower society be so dogmatic about doctrines when it's been shown jesus christ has not revealed the "secrets that would be hidden until the last days"?

  for all i know, my opinion on this matter is as good as anyone elses opinion.

  Who are the REAL demons behind the Watchtower?

  i apologize for not writing much of anything in several weeks.. did you miss me?

  (don't answer that!).

  i am doing pretty good now after going through the worst year of my 60 years of life... but in order to make some changes that will enable me to keep working, i really had to take time off to take care of medical issues (mostly my spine - destroyed after 30 years spending 10-12 hours a day on the computer).

  was actually looking into this and so did a search to see what was already talked about, found the below quote on another thread after finding it on the cd for myself...stunning to me as i still thought of neanderthal man as a hairy monkey man or a complete fabrication, and here is what appears to be a twist from the wt that i never realized all my years in.. what i found most interesting was the bolded section (by me).

  The wts may have tried to say that. But they are wrong in this just as the wrong in every other thing they say. Most scientists consider Neanderthals - H. neanderthalensis- a separate species from modern humans, or else a subspecies - H. sapien neanderthalensis. They were sufficiently anatomically different from modern humans to be classified this way. To argue that Neanderthals were merely a race of modern humans is to completely ignore the scientific evidence.

  Interestlingly there now seems there were a number of species of Homo that were contempories of modern humans. H. floresiensis was a small human that lived up till about 15000 years again what is now Indonesia. And a number of other species are also being researched at the moment.
