Goodbye to JWD ... hello to JWN !
by Simon inas i announced some time ago, jwd as it is will not continue .... ... but .... it's clear from people's comments that they do like the site and many would like it or something else like it to continue.. one issue was the forum software that was self-developed and not really in a good state to hand-over to anyone but i've been working on that and can now reveal the first release of what will probably be called jwn (son of jwd):.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/.
it is still work-in-progress so not all features are enabled yet but it will allow you to browse the site in a similar way to this one and it is pointing at the same database (although because of the way the caching works, new posts made on this site won't appear immediately).

Wal-Mart worker dies after shoppers knock him down
By COLLEEN LONG, Associated Press Writer - 13 mins ago
NEW YORK – A worker was killed in the crush Friday after a throng of shoppers eager for post- Thanksgiving bargains burst through the doors at a suburban Wal-Mart , authorities said.
At least four other people were injured, and the store in Valley Stream on Long Island was closed.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc . in Bentonville, Ark., called the incident a "tragic situation" and said the employee came from a temporary agency and was doing maintenance work at the store.
"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," co-worker Jimmy Overby, 43, told the Daily News. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too. ... I literally had to fight people off my back."
Nassau County police said the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m. The man's name was not released and the cause of death was not immediately known.
A police statement said shortly after the store's 5 a.m. opening time, shoppers "physically broke down the doors, knocking (the worker) to the ground."
A metal portion of the door was crumpled like an accordion.
Shoppers around the country lined up early outside stores in the annual bargain hunting ritual known as Black Friday . Many stores open early and stay open late, and some of the most dramatic bargains are available in limited quantities.
Among the bargains offered by Wal-Mart for Friday were Samsung 50 -inch high definition Plasma TVs for less than $800.
Witnesses told the Daily News that before the store was closed, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the worker's life.
"They were working on him, but you could see he was dead," said Halcyon Alexander, 29. "People were still coming through."
A 28-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a hospital for observation, and she and the unborn baby were both reported to be OK, said Sgt. Anthony Repalone, a Nassau County police spokesman . Four or five other people suffered minor injuries, he said.
Ellen Davis, a spokeswoman at National Retail Federation , said the group knew of no other incident where a retail employee has died working on the day after Thanksgiving .
Wal-Mart is working closely with police, company spokesman Dan Fogleman said.
"The safety and security of our customers and associates is our top priority," Fogleman said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families at this difficult time."

Phobias, Taboos, and Perversion
by jgnat inall three - phobias, taboos, and perversions - exist in society.
phobias, certainly, are created by an anger/aggression response in a particular zone in our brain.
it triggers powerful hormone production such as adrenaline, to get us ready for fight-or-flight.

But also these sorts of organizations attract people who initially have low self-esteem, or a desire to please, or have hyper self-criticism in place. I think these folks also have a fear of abandonment or are lonely at some level as well.
BINGO!

We have the power...
by Tuesday inin watching this lunacy in the senate of the auto-makers asking for a bail out essentially because they didn't listen to consumer demand (and flying in on private jets then talking about cutting "needless expenses" oh the irony), i'm starting to realize just how much power the average joe has.. think about this, six months ago i was paying $4.30 per gallon on gas.
i drastically cut my driving.
i used to fill up every week, now due to cutting my driving habits i fill up every 2 and 1/2 weeks.

Consumers can pace demand... but it's like herding cats.

Tuesday, we've ALWAYS had the power............we were deluded and blinded for awhile and some of us gave our power into other's hands. it happens when we let others make decisions for us. I am only half kidding when I say this whole situation makes me think of the French Revolution............hopefully two things will be different from that: it won't be bloody, and two, it will be a worldwide revolution, bringing welcome relief and equality for all.

USA AUTO MAKERS SCAPEGOAT?
by Sunnygal41 inwierd thought?
even though i haven't been following it closely, it seems to me that everyone is demonizing them, and i just wonder whether they are really just a convenient scapegoat for our anger from long repressed feelings of powerlessness.
yes, for the past eight years, most of us, in one way or another felt powerless over our daily lives in the usa.

First of all, thanks to all who contributed so much to this thread...........I have gotten a clearer picture of the situation.
It sounds like most of us agree that HUGE CHANGES need to be made, and I think that NOW is the absolute best time for all of this to come to a head. Time to clean house and get rid of everything that doesn't work, and set up a system that will, and that takes everyone under a fair and just evaluation. Hopefully it won't be too bloody of a Revolution!

How Life Can Change
by Sunspot ini don't come by here very often any more (trying to wean myself away from this board in anticipation of when we cannot ever post any more.
in the last couple of years, and leaving this mess in jesus' hands, things have not only begun to emerge as "fixable", but have most definetely been fixed at long last.
i was invited to the youngest grandchild's (of this son) sweet 16 birthday party last summer and i teared up when i realized that this was the first birthday party of all three of these grandchildren that i had attended.. we have been invited to thanksgiving dinner ( for the fourth year) with our whole family and that of my dil's family (she is one of seven) and to spend a few days at christmas at another son's home.

Yes, for the past eight years, most of us, in one way or another felt powerless over our daily lives in the USA. we finally have gotten mad enough to make our voice heard, and start making a change, a new start.
thoughts anyone?
