Tried to get my mom to watch the NBC segment last night...

she wouldn't watch it... i told her all about it, and she of course started defending it before i was even finished.

then we got into a long discussion, which was pretty one-sided, her telling me why the wts has the 'truth'.

i told her all my concerns, and tried asking the 'if the wts is god's one and only 'channel' to earth, why all the changes in doctrine' question, and she of course gave me the 'light gets brighter' bs answer.

Yes, the light DOES get brighter.....but the bible also tells us that the things of the darkness WILL be revealed and exposed by the light of scrutiny....and we can see that the WTS is no more exempt from these hideous things being revealed than any other religion. You can gently remind your JW family members that all these things MUST take place according to "plan" and according to what they themselves are supposed to believe.

If these "revelations" are important enough to appear on the national evening news, they are not just what some lone crackpot is hollering on a street corner somewhere, but these have the credibility and come from reliable sources or they would not be ON this particular news show.

JWs can only hide from the truth for just so long, and then reality will have to "set in" somewhere in their hearts and minds. I wouldn't count them out just yet, a lot can happen that might very well make them have a change of heart towards the WTS. Don't give up---the fat lady has not sung yet!

Sherri Shepard EXJW On "The View"

i am watching this program....and sherri shepard just said she was raised as a jw and how strict their beliefs were.

she was asked what jws believe---and she answered that they teach that when jesus comes back to destroy the earth, that only jws will be allowed to live on the new earth that will be made.. she also said how she hated going out on saturday mornings to knock on doors, and that it was tough when her father got disassociated (she had to stop and explain what that meant) and that she could no longer talk to him.. a lot of women (who are at home :o) watch this show.....and i am applauding her saying this so all who are watching this will hear these two points and remeber them the next time jws call at their houses!.

facts that only jws will be saved when jesus comes back---and jws told not to speak to those who leave or are kicked out of the religion.....two great points to be aired like this on national tv!.

Letters and cards for Sunspot (Annie) ??

everyone that chimes in on the card and letter exchanges are so upbeat just getting their pm's lifts my spirts, so.... i had an idea .

i asked the deary and she said yes she would so love that!!.

The mail just came and there are four more cards from the wonderful gang here at JWD! Hubby and I are getting a kick out of seeing all the places they are coming from....one was from New Zealand and another was by "Royal Airmail" but had no town or anything else listed. We assumed it was from the UK. My grandson was looking at these cards and was very impressed when I told him how I came about getting these--- and was then telling his girlfriend by phone, that I had been sent get well cards from former JWs all over the world!

I DO want to mention that a few have NOT included their JWD screen-name so that I do not actually know WHO has sent these cards! I had figured out a few others from last week....by their first names and where they are from---so that worked out rather well. I feel bad that all I can say is a less than personal group "thank you all so much" when I would like to be a bit more personal on this, LOL!

I don't dare say too much because I might offend someone that does not want ANYTHING said about who they are or where they live, so please accept my sincere thanks for how wonderful you ALL are in taking the time to go out, buy the card, and mail it to me.

I also want to add that I received our very first Christmas card (it was SOOO pretty) for this year----from a gal here on JWD.

You ARE the greatest BUNCH!!!!

She said that she never expected 'perfection' from the governing body, and that me and my family were just too sensitive on this matter. It was all right to be upset, but not correct to leave.

I have had this same convoluted logic thrown at me on another board: the fact that I had obviously expected perfection from a group of men---but that I was not to expect this from the WTS and yet be quick about pointing this flaw in "every other" religion. It was then okay to leave those religions because of all their mistakes, but please ignore ALL mistakes made by the men that run the WTS and trust in THEM.

I did not expect perfection from the WTS---but I DID expect them to always be TRUTHFUL...... and when it became quite apparent that they had indeed LIED on numerous occasions and in many teachings...I chose to leave them as well.

PS---I left in 1999, before the UN fiasco became evident.

How I handled Child Abuse cases when I was an Elder (1996-2006)

hey ya'll.

i know there is a lot of buzz due to the nbc story.

i thought i'd share my experience as an elder dealing with abuse.. i attended 23 different congregations in my life and served as an elder or ms in 9 of them.

Bottom line is this: When your a JW to the core, the only true authority you acknowledge is that of the Watchtower organization. It pretty much sums up the core of why so many are leaving. It's not about God or being Christian. It's about an organization. It's serving THEM, in the name of God.

Yes, thankfully so many ARE seeing through the veneer of "the only true religion" as garbage, and realizing that it is NOT the truth and never has been. We were just cleverly manipulated into this belief.

The idea that JWs MUST protect the organization and that they do their level best to keep things from the public's knowledge---is so ludicrous in situations of child abuse and pedphilia---because the idea that the WTS/JWs are "protecting the name of Jehovah" is beyond foolish when you think about it. One would think that "Jehovah----as Soveriegn Lord and Creator of the entire universe---could not "protect" his own name OR his "organization" even if it truly WAS the WTS!

And wouldn't HE WANT to have ANY adverse condititions brought out, exposed and cleaned up as they occurred---to DEMONSTRATE how he WAS (is) "taking care of business" and TRULY keeping his congregation clean of these things? This "protecting Jehovah" or that nonsense about the fear of bringing reproach ON him----is just so much total hogwash.....as IF mere man COULD "protect" God. OR if he needed protection FROM mankind!

What to really expect from the JW's from the latest News

as wonderful as the coverage was concerning abuse of children in the watchtower organization, i think most of us deep down know that it will be ignored, denied and/or described as apostate lies.. the most we can hope for is enlightenment of the general public to the fact that jw's are no different than any of the other religions they point fingers at.

it will make it more difficult to get a listening ear at the door.. the jw's exist in a very small world.

they are taught anything not coming from headquarters is basically lies.. any mistakes made were due to old light, or as i have heard from my own relatives...."well, the entire world didn't know any better so the "organization" is just catching up like everyone else.

Many times the WTS will try and turn these negative experiences and news articles, into something positive for them. They have boasted that a lot of (now) JWs have investigated the WTS only to prove them wrong but end up in being convinced "they are the truth" by clever mind manipulation.

THIS negative publicity (AND the truth about the WT Org), will be more difficult to overcome with slick words and twisted teachings because it is NOT based on any "scriptural" understanding, but is dealing with the coverups of the molestation of children and how the WTS "handles" these situations going on all the time.

The MORE this is brought to the public's attention---the better it will be to enforce this in their minds and the impact WILL be felt at the "doors".
