White Dove, I read The Stand in two days. I think it's over 1,000 pages. I can't remember now, but I couldn't put it down. All of his books are good, even the ones he's written under psuedonyms. I like the Dark Tower series, too. I've been reading his books probably since I was 10. He's awesome.
Dorktacular.....did you fight the urge to RUN from anyone with a bad cough after reading that book? LOL!

Funny, one of my sons and I were discussing this very same subject a few nights ago on the phone. I had asked if he remembered sending me his copy of the Langoliers from his home in TX when I was in the hospital here in upstate NY years ago. We had BOTH hated the TV movie of it but enjoyed the book,
If I had to state which ONE was my favorite....I couldn't do that, but I best liked the Shining, It, Pet Cemetary, and the Stand. I was SO frightened reading the Shining, that even with hubby snoring right next to me at 3:00 AM, reading one part of that book SO TERRIFIED me that my heart was pounding at every noise and creak in the walls and I could NOT sleep until the sun came up and was "shining" in the window! No other book has ever affected me like that one did.
Stephen King IS the Master of horror!

over the last two years, as i moved back to the catholic church, i have been confronted with objections by several people regarding certain catholic teachings.
these concerns are almost always the same, and are founded in mythology created by the watchtower society, and some evangelical denominations.
god can and does use fallible men to do infallible things?

I have chosen a bit different spiritual path than you have, but I am thrilled that you have found what you have and also thrilled that you are so dedicated TO it.
It is refreshing to be able to have friends that embrace various faiths and to be able to appreciate each one for who and what they have become since leaving the WTS cult. We find that so many that leave the WTS become so soured on ANY religion that they go completely in the opposite directions....but then that is THEIR choice and should not be demeaned or belittled.
They say that things happen the "threes"....and withing the last 24 hours I have had two very nice surprises come to me....I will count seeing you posting again....as treat number three!

do you think the governing body is really concerned about gas prices, or are they just trying to protect themselves from pedophilia lawsuits and liability claims for accidents in private homes?
I have never seen the WBTS make a decision on behalf of the flock. Gas costs sounds good, I don't think it has anything to do with it.
I must say I agree 100%.
It was like when the "Donation Arrangement" was implemented and the GB said it was to lighten the burden on the brothers, blah, blah, blah.....and all along it was because the WTS had LOST A SUPREME COURT LAWSUIT preventing them form getting out of paying taxes on their goods.
The men who speak and write for the WTS are despicable, dishonest, liars and frauds.

i thought that was the safe haven when the authorities finally banned the meetings at the kingdom hall and persecuted us (according to jw prophecy), meeting in small groups at people's homes.
any thoughts?.

With THIS new infrmation....I will have to go and lie down now......
the watchtower meeting (this congregation meets on sat) that i just listened to via phone conference was cut 10 minutes short to have a letter read to all the congregation.
here are the highlights:.
- the governing body realizes that the pressures of this system of things are getting heavier on his people.. - just like the governing body of the 1st century, we do not want to add additional burden to you either.
The book study is OBSOLETE they have not had a publication of any substance for decades that's why they have had to rehash old publications over and over again...it is the least attended meeting to begin with why continue with it...the light is slowly being extinguished and they know it...
ALL the above posters made sense, but I believe that the LACK of "stirring and urgent" information in the form of new books has caused the ultimate downfall of the cozy home bookstudy. When you begin to hear audible groans when the "new" publication is to be studied (AGAIN) it's time to hang it up.
When the WTS "then decides" to tack on these boring and rehashed books by incorporating it into a pre-existing meeting....it shows evidence of desperation and MORE control than ever.

All the above poster's comments reflect what I remember being told to us when I was in. Funny how the WTS can make these drastic changes and get away with it.

I am a bit late to comment on this threas, but from day one I have favored both Davids and I liked Kristy Cook but now she is gone. I think that David Cook will win as he seems to be the most versatile and the most well-rounded performer.
Poor Jason...he has a sweet manner and a pleasant voice, but I don't feel he is star material or can win when pitted against either David.
I am anxious to see next week when Neil Diamond coaches the kids...it could be quite interesting!
