by ilikecheese init seems kind of crazy to go to someone's house touting your religion as truth and then not even defend your own beliefs.
why do jws stop the chat if someone just tries to calmly reason/debate with them?
i'm not talking about crazy preachers who start slamming bibles and yelling about how they need jesus or something.

Nice to have you here, please stay a while and ask questions as often as you want.
There is a wealth of knowledge on this board, knowledge about the Bible, Religion and Christian theology, as well as science. The folks here a greatly varied in their beliefs and opinions, but for the most part everyone is kind and friendly.
Some have a great sense of humor, some come across as being a bit blunt. Some say they can hear Jesus talk to them, others believe that Jesus never existed. Some believe they are Jesus Christ.
The one thing just about everyone on this site has in common, is that they were once JWs. Learning the truth about this Religion can be one the most uncomfortable experiences in a persons life.
I like you had questions, and was not entirely satisfied with the answers I had. I wasn't convinced on the WTS's interpretation of the Revelation book and even the Daniel book. This got me researching.
Before long I understood 607/1914 was all false information..... and from here it snowballed. The Jehovah's Witnesses are just another religion. This had my mind spinning for months. I lost my appetite for weeks, couldn't sleep properly and my research was consuming every thought I had from the moment I woke until I slept. This was in October last year so this is still all pretty fresh for me.
I was raised in 'the truth', and thought I had all the answers to life's big questions. Instead I now realize just how ignorant I was and still am. I am in the process of fading from the religion. I can't voice anything to friends and family that is against the WTS or I risk being DF'd and shunned for life.
Good luck on your journey. If you are in your early twenties, you have plenty of time to live your life as you want, instead of putting it on old as you serve an American publishing corporation and wait for the "real life" to start in the "New System".

The mentality of JWs is like this; If someone wants to debate the WT doctrine, they are not being honest with themselves and they are not humble enough to learn the truth. They believe that there is no such thing as reasonable objections to their religion, the problem is always the householders.
The JW then concludes that the householder is not worthy of life, and will soon be executed at Armageddon.......move on to the next door.....we need some vulnerable victims.

Why Do Christians today need a "governing body" of elders to be their spiritual "teacher"?

since the bible reports that jehovah led first-century christians individually through instruction directly from the holy spirit, with no accountability to a "governing body" in jerusalem, why do christians today need a "governing body" of elders?.

by fresh prince of ohio indon't get me wrong, this forum currently has plenty of interesting discussions and posters, but, for those of you who weren't on the old jwd board in the early-to-mid-00s, man...i'm sorry but you really missed out on the glory years of this forum.
it was really a special, unique place then.
again, not dissing the current, but, that huge exciting wave of ex-jw internet activity that occurred in the early part of this century seems to have leveled off.

Can somebody explain the changes I read in the WT??
by diana netherton inmy grandmother asked me to read to her so i asked her what she wanted me to read.
was the watchtower, but she specfically asked for the one with "the timeline.

What you read was a "new idea" by the Governing Body. According to GB member David Splane, the GB "love this new idea".
The GB have been handed a promotion from Jehovah, which gives them the authority over 7 million people.
The idea is that Jesus handed over the control of all his belongings (JWs), to the Governing Body in 1919. Never mind that there was no Governing Body in until the 1970's, or the fact that the GB were not made aware of their own identity until just now.
The point is, it's a great idea from Jehovah that we should love.
