Moving out after the borg
by happy@last ini was delighted to hear of adjustments news, but it did remind me of what i'm sure a lot go through when they leave, here's a little of my story:.
when i married as a jw, and when we moved there was always a team of willing volunteers happy to drive the van or move the furniture or decorate.
additonally when you get married you have a list of items people want to buy for you, even if some had odd taste we received lots of needed and wanted items, sometimes 2 or 3 of the same type.. as a da'd person, also seperated from my spouse i needed to move home.

Hey happy: did you end up making new friends? It must have been scary starting from scratch. Do you have any tips?
I have made some good friends, through work and also exJWs. I also have my kids so have plenty to keep me occupied. I did initially subscribe to meetup and still get the Monday morning email, but never had time to go to any of the events. I lead a fairly active life anyhow.

Does this mean that Mr Felt will sue the next person who slams their door in his face when he calls on a Saturday morning also?
I'm pleased for Mr O'Hare, he is free from a cult and he obviously needed to do something to announce his joy

As a DA'd person, also seperated from my spouse I needed to move home. With no 'friends' or family who talk to you, you are on your own. I was starting over so had to get everything, even down to linen, cutlery and pictures! I had nobody to call on for help, nobody sent me a 'New Home' card. And yet despite that, the sense of achievement and happiness far outweighs any hardship.
I am happy in my home, it is a place of peace and tranquility for me, and I wish every happiness for all who are moving on to pastures new.

I Was Asked To Perform A Marriage Ceremony But Don't Know I'm Qualified
by minimus inmy girlfriend's daughter and her fiancee asked me to marry them last night.
they live in connecticut and will be married in new york.
i felt honored that i was asked but i don't think i can do it because i am not a clergyman or minister and my u derstanding is that only clergy or judges and lawyers and justice of the peace can perform a wedding ceremony and marry a couple.. does anyone have any information on this subject?

"I married my brother" I actually gave the talk and did the vows but it always gets some concerned looks if I say that in a crowded room.

Has growing up as a JW affected my ability to forgive ?
by troubled mind ini really don't understand the concept of forgiveness .
lately in my life several people have thrown that term around so easily ,and i am confused .
is it because we were taught to cut people off so easily as jws that i find it hard to forgive ?.

JWs have a strange view of forgiveness, whereby a pedo can be forgiven but someone who doesn't believe in the teaching of 1914 cannot be forgiven!
People do make mistakes and do so often, minor issues can normally be forgiven. If there is a pattern of the same mistake/indescretion then this becomes another problem entirely, you cannot forget and therefore forgive. Or you might make an exception if it is a minor issue but not forget, you can learn from it.
If someone has lifelong difficulties due to another persons actions, as in the example you gave, then nobody has the right to tell them to forgive the perpetrator. Anyone who does something to deliberately upset or cause harm to another person cannot expect forgiveness. A person needs to work hard to be respected and not assume forgiveness.Of course there are also some very serious actions that people choose to make that simply cannot be forgiven, and I would put pedos into that category as well as others.
In answer to your question, I hope growing up a JW has not affected your ability to forgive, I hope that morality and reason affects your abilities.

Leaving the JWs, experiencing Christianity and finding freedom! (But it took awhile)
by im_free inthis is my first post here.. i was raised in "the truth", and am an ex-bethelite who worked in brooklyn for several years back in the 90's.
a few years after i left bethel, i started to become disillusioned after doing research about the society and reading crisis of conscience (i know..i wasn't supposed to do that lol).
i eventually stopped attending meetings and going out in service.

Welcome im_free, so glad you've found a place for yourself. I for one cannot comprehend how a loving almighty entity would allow so much suffering for so long, being so unjust in punishing those who have disobeyed or not even had the opportunity to know them.
