i recently found out that my family's horriable experience helped one mother decide to never go back!!

in turn, her 2 teenage children have been living normal lives.

i can't tell you how happy i am for them..

i've been a lurker for quite some time and enjoy the forum.

i've reached a point in life where i don't argue ideologies anymore so i don't have much to say.

i've been out for decades and believe i've been mostly de-cultabilized (if that's even a word).. my family is still in and i haven't had contact with them in years.

Are there ANY mind-controlling cults that DON'T hate gays???

please help me with this: can you think of a single mind-controlling cult that isn't anti-gay???

it seems to me that virtually all such groups preach against homosexuality.

jws.....mormons....moonies.....jim jones.....david koresh.....the catholic church.....radical islam.....russian orthodox church......scientology......lyndon larouche...to name just a few.

deep down inside, i have always been agnostic.

the first few chapters in genesis are contradictory and differing.. no one has ever been able to answer my question: "why was satan ever created?".

i recently started watching this series in a boxset i bought and can't believe how similar my eldest daughter seems to behave as do the children who have been 'harnessed'.

these kids in the show have been abducted by aliens and made to believe the aliens are good to them all the while they are turned into different creatures.

it's quite eery.

Anyone else watched this series? As a review its not great but entertaining.

The article says the police had not received any complaints about the leaflet drop, I wonder who told the newspaper?

It's a pity we couldn't see one of them.

with all these new lawsuits coming against the watchtower, i wonder what would have happened if the watchtower had revised their policies instead of disfellowshipping whistleblowers.

i wonder if the gb regrets it.

what if they had accepted that child abuse was a real issue and abolished the 2 witness rule?

People like Barbara and Bill have done immense work exposing what was already a problem. The publicly known cases are from the 1980's and 1990's so could not have been prevented. However the fact they have strived to make them public has hopefully given others courage to go to court and testify against their abusers including WTBTS.

It would have been inevitable that these ones be DF'd as their consciences were opposed to the rules laid down by WTBTS. It may be a few years before we see how prolific paedophilia still is in JW land, the so called spiritual paradise.

Why don't parents of an abused child go straight to police, why go to an elder first??

i hope i don't come across as judgemental but having read a lot on the current child abuse cases and the different threads on here, i am left wondering why on earth a parent of an abuse victim would go to an elder with the problem first and not straight to police?.

as a parent myself i know that if anything like that happend to my child (this applies to when i was still an active jw as well as now) i would not hesitate in going to the authorities as soon as i found out, it wouldn't of crossed mine or my husbands mind to go to an elder.

maybe after we had reported it but definitely never as the first port of call.

You are correct, the natural instinct is to protect your child and go straight to the authorities. The sad thing is that JWs are not told to think for themselves and everything has to be done via thier rules, which they are told are for their protection!

Before I left I had numerous discussions with felllow elders about this, who all said to me that they would go to the police without hesitation, I pointed out they would be doing so contrary to WT instructions and all they could say was 'so be it'.
