Whichever it may be, sociopath or psychopath, many organizations are led by similar personalities. If you don't think so, you haven't worked for many large companies.

Is this a religion run by PSYCOPATHS?
by Terry inglibness/superficial charmgrandiose sense of self-worthpathological lyingconning/manipulativelack of remorse or guiltshallow affect (genuine emotion is short-lived and egocentric)callousness; lack of empathyfailure to accept responsibility for own actionsthe hare psychopathy checklist-revised by robert d. hare, 1991. multi-health systems, 908 niagara falls blvd, north tonawanda, new york, usa, 14120-2060. psycopaths do not feel empathy but learn to imitate those who do.
psychopaths don't even understand charity.. .
i was thinking today how much psycopathy is reflected in the governing body leadership and especially manifested in policy.. jehovah's witnesses are not led by people devoted to charity, benevolence, outreach or social provision for those less fortunate which.

THIS NEEDS ITS OWN THREAD:: TODAY's WT Paragraph 16
by Lied2NoMore inhere is what got my spidey senses tingling: paragraph 16, reference to daniel p mannix book, was wondering if his statement was mis-quoted so i did my research.......but was even more shocked when i saw this: .
from amazon dot com reviews................ probably the most provocative work of historical fiction published this century,"those who are about to die" is pure mannix at his best.
a uncensured exploration of what likely took place in the circuses of ancient rome.

Just because some parts of the book are embellished or hypothetical, that doesn't mean the part about the Christians was fabricated. I'm awaiting more info on this before making up my mind.

The Annointed
by earthfire inso a question i always wondered about growing up was how do the annointed know that they are annointed and how does that conversation go down when you approach the elders about "being chosen".
how do they prove that they get to taste the wine and eat the bread?
i knew two sisters who were "annointed" and now that i've been out for quite a while i look back and think, did they know that they were lying or did they truly believe?

You can still fix the typo in your original post for the next 8 minutes, earthfire ;)
As to whether the anointed believe they are really anointed, I'd guess most do. Some people have something akin to an out-of-body experience, a strong pious feeling when being baptized, or a really vivid dream which leads them to think they were anointed. Since it's probably not common for "anointed" ones to share their experiences with others, no one really knows if they were "anointed" in the "usual" way because there's no documentation on the matter.

JW Preaching Work Ends in 20th Century ?
by Scorpion inpage 12 of the january 1,1989 wt original magazine paragraph 8 ends with the statement that the apostle paul's missionary activity laid a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century.".
(a subtle prophecy that 'the end' will come by the year 2000 a.d.).
this sentence is changed in the bound volume reprint to read "a work that would be completed in our day.

Pretty ballsy to have written that in '89! Someone really thought the end would come within a decade?

Parents - How can I tell them what I have learnt and hope they leave too.
by free and happy inmy husband and i and our children having been left the jws for 5 years now, for me it was how we were treated, the lies elders told about us and the blood issue that really opened my eyes and while all this was happening, my parents watched, supported and even sympathised with us,they said they understood our decision and even though it sadden them we were leaving, they understood.
they have never shunned us and we have a really good relationship with them.. what i don't understand is how they can still stay and play happy families with the people who caused us so much pain and anxiety, without the transfusion my eldest had, she would be dead, it truely was a life saver, why did they not question the religion that was quite happy to let her die for it.. i think the problem for me is that when i was at home, we never really talked, any problems were just glossed over , in fact i don't think i have ever had an indepth jw talk with my parents about how i felt about being a witness which makes it so hard to tell them what i've learnt now, i haven't a clue where to start.. for my husband it seemed quite easy for him to have discussions with his mum and step dad as he never had the same closeness that i had with my parents when growing up even though we were raised in witness families, but then it dawned on me that we never really spoke indepth about anything much so how do i start now?.
so i'm asking for any advice anyone can give, if you have any suggestions i would love to hear from you..

It's amazing the stuff some of us realize about the other person when talking openly for the first time about the "truth" with a loved one.

A conversation about universal sovereignty
by outsmartthesystem in"well osts, satan, through adam challenged god's right to rule......so god had to let it play out to show that he really should be the one ruling mankind.
both the angels and humans needed to see this.
me - why couldn't god have allowed adam's children to remain perfect?

Satan and any other rebels could not complain that such an arrangement would be intefering in man's moral free will, since God himself has told humankind numerous times what sins should not be committed. Right from the start he gave moral laws, warning Cain not to murder, etc, and he gave the 10 commandments. So God could easily have established some kind of universal punishment karma for persons who break his laws without the issue of universal sovereignty being undermined. Instead, God gave these moral laws (that reasonably limit our free will) and then did nothing to prevent or punish anyone from breaking them, just disappeared off the scene. It's inexplicable.
What about this is inexplicable? You explained it perfectly. God could not punish people for sinning because that's not giving them free moral will. Free moral will comes when a person can make any decision for himself, without there being unavoidable consequences for a wrong act.

Anyone noticed a curiosity on the Memorial Invitation for 2013 ?
by EdenOne ini can't scan the memorial invitation for 2013, but i was looking at it today and noticed something curious on the front drawing.. we have jesus as the central figure of the composition.
to his right and bottom, a large crown, in colour, of shiny happy people of diverse origins.. separated from this by the figure of jesus, is another group, a much smaller one, on the left and as if ascending to the top, and grayed.. clearly portrayed in this group is the face of ct russell and apparently william tyndale.
but then, also sarah and abraham and other personalities of the ot seem to be represented there.

Hilarious, I immediately thought it was Janeway too. And I also thought that man looked like Russell. Presumably they're just depicting faithful servants of old who will be resurrected?

Ha, wow, rebel8, you've earned your name. Did anyone seem to notice your "No"?

Bumping because Kids In The Hall. That was a great sketch. I think the parts that really resonate for a JW are the second guy who only speaks up to parrot a few words from the first guy, and their incredulous reaction at actually being invited inside.

Is trying to awaken a JW tantamount to "robbing him of his bliss"??
by never a jw inlast thursday i was propmpted by a recent thread to read the daily text (feb 28, 2013).
i then had the audacity to send a text message to all four jw's nephews/nieces (in their mid 20's).
i offered my opinion by summarizing it "put and shut up".

Honestly, I appreciate what you're doing and that you are doing it for their good, but I don't think that kind of message can ever reach a committed Witness. The message I'm referring to is "This writing from the Society has a sinister subliminal message." It sounds very conspiratorial in a "You're being mind-controlled by the FBI!" kind of way. Of course it's much more plausible than a tin-foil hat theory, but it doesn't sound plausible to them. No Witness can possibly accept that the Society is sending cult control messages through their literature unless they're already on their way out mentally.
It would be more effective to focus on doctrinal flip-flops, embarrassing WT history, or maybe being more subtle altogether and helping them see that the world is not so black-and-white as "Witnesses good, worldlies bad". Especially now that they have their guard up, I wouldn't expect any direct tactics to work for a while.
