There's one important difference between 1919 and 1975, which is that no one remembers 1919 ;-) Yes, we have seen the foolishness in the literature from that time period, but we're not exactly good Witnesses, are we? The average Witness only sees back to 1950 (is that still the case?) on his CD-ROM. If they end up using only the Online Library in the future, well, that goes back to 2000, right? So the mistakes of the early 20th century are not easily dug up. If one were to dig them up, then good luck if he tries to bring it to anyone's attention in the congregation. So I don't see any challenge to the GB's claims of authority coming on the basis of false dates like 1918 and 1925.

Weird "new world" artwork from the 2013 calendar
by cedars inmy mother-in-law has a strange obsession with calendars, and orders the society's calendar each year.
this year's calendar is especially weird.
it features images depicting future events - in particular, the society's vision of the new world order.. i've taken the opportunity to scan some of the images for you all to check out.. please note - there are captions for each of the images, but i don't have the english language version of the calendar so i'd rather just quote the scripture used so as not to reveal which country i'm in.. .

Since we are going to all have perfect bods.
I prefer to take the French sensibilities. Swimming the St. Tropez way
Actually, let's take it a bit further. Aren't humans going to be perfect in the new system? Like Adam and Eve? So why would they be wearing clothes at all? Clearly the friends in the paintings have not embraced the higher mindset of perfect men and women who are not ashamed of their bodies and have no inappropriate thoughts.

Clapping at the meetings and assembly
by NewYork44M ini had a random thought this morning about clapping.
growing up in the wt culture i learned the proper protocol for clapping.
before the assembly speaker gave his talk, but not after.

My congregations have always applauded after demonstrations, despite the request from the KM (I think it was) not to do that. Somehow the demos are deserving of applause even though the talk containing them is not.

Also, those nice young ladies in March/April who are wading in the water are about to get a big surprise. Hint: what is the surfer on the right of the picture surfing on?

I shudder to think what the JWs will do once all the bad people with their college educations are gone and the world is left to the Witnesses to maintain...
After Armageddon has passed, and the wicked have been destroyed with antimatter or eaten by birds, whichever, some Witnesses are touring the world that has been left behind for them, resplendent with material riches that will no longer be needed by their sinful former owners. After calling dibs on the best houses in one neighborhood, the local Witnesses decide to visit the strange building on the hill nearby. They read the plaque outside the door: Nuclear Power Plant. "Hey, this must be where our electricity's coming from! Let's take a look inside!" As they walk inside, they begin to hear a strange noise echoing down the corridors, dimly at first, then growing louder as they make their way towards it. A klaxon is sounding in a room with computer consoles that look like the Starship Enterprise.
Witness 1: Hmm, this screen says, "Fuel rod depletion in -23s. Enter authorization to select reserve N 0 tanks."
Witness 2: And this other one says, "Positive feedback loop detected. Please press AZ-5 to prevent meltdown." Wonder what that means.
Witness 1: Huh.

My Husband Said "Victims Of Pedophiles Come Forward Soon, Not Fifteen Or Thirty Years Later!" Right?
by AuntConnie inmy husband had gotten into a fight with a couple of victims of different pedophiles, he said in all his years of elderhood, "men and women who were sexually assualted came forward when they were old enough, they did not wait for decades to report they were abused.
you must have some kind of false memory or you are just trying to bring shame to the congregations.
" what is the truth of this?.

I find this user's posts terribly confusing to read. I don't think they're a troll. It's possible that they are not using quote marks to indicate who said what, but the impression I get is that they are constantly contradicting themselves. Some examples:
"What have I done by believing his lies? We still socialize with the pedophile" -- sounds regretful, but then...
"If you saw how much the pedophile does for the congregation, you would be impressed by his remorse. Jehovah must have forgiven him or he would have kicked him out of the Organization. [...] So why should I judge him" -- huh?
There are other parts which might be explainable, but also seem contradictory:
"this particular pedophile used the excuse "I felt guilty every time I forced oral sex onto this child"" -- then...
"My husband is convinced the pedophile was framed" -- despite the fact that he confessed to it?? -- "The pedophile knew when the statue of limitations would expire and that's when he confessed to the elder body" -- Perhaps you didn't mean "framed", exactly?
"They were his former best friends until one of the elders leaked the story to the victim" -- to the one who was abused? But they already knew about it, or did you mean they just didn't know the pedophile confessed?
"The victim is related to me, I hate them for bringing down a man whose mistake was over twenty years ago! The pedophile brother still has all his friends, the victim has lost all her faith in the Organization because of the injustices suffered. That's no reason to leave the Truth, why did she have to bring this up instead of "fading"?" -- there's something like four contradictions within these three sentences. Are you mad at the victim for telling the elders, or at the pedophile?
I don't conclude from all this that AuntConnie is a troll, merely that she is having trouble communicating what she intends to say.

Is 1914 still relevant in WT/JW Theology?
by 00DAD in) - p. 7 par.
10:12, 13) - p. 20 par.
- p. 25 par.

Interesting, that's quite a contradiction. I wonder if that's an intentional change in interpretation. The '93 WT represents the same understanding as the Revelation book, right? Which wouldn't be surprising since they were only a few years apart. But not only does the Cedar Point fulfillment apparently "break" the 1914 connection, it always strained some Witnesses' credulity to begin with. So maybe the '02 WT is sneaking in a change, where the trumpet blasts are not connected to the convention any longer; the verse cited simply refers to 1914, and the trumpet blasts... are the trumpet blasts. Or maybe someone just was lazy and not paying attention to a publication from the previous decade when writing the '02 article.

by punkofnice ini've just held my vomit bag in from of me and taken a butchers at www.jw.org.
who is it designed for?.
what's the point of all those sterile vids?.

Maybe I'm the lone dissenting voice, but I like the new design. I'm not sure what else to expect, it's clean-looking and works well. What would you guys improve about it if you wanted to make it more appealing? You can simply point me to another URL as an answer. Don't say "adding comments".

Inappropriate - Sick - WT & Awake articles over the years.
by Essan ini remember as a kid reading an article - not sure if watchtower or awake - which terrified the life out of me!
i remember thinking at the time "ok, this may be true, but i'm just a kid, i shouldn't be reading this!".
some of the details remain imprinted on my mind decades later.

Although I am part of the school of thought that the GB is essentially sincere and that they are not intentionally, malevolently controlling people using cult tactics, I'm tempted to change my mind when I think about the articles that talked about demon attacks and violent opposition. What good could it do to relate a story where the demons killed a child, except to frighten people into huddling closer to the Watchtower corporation?

Does the Bible contradict itself?
by exwhyzee inour old jw friend who is about to shun us says, there's nothing in the bible that contradicts itself?.
.
can anyone think of certain scriptures that could prove otherwise?.
-
Apognophos
Even a JW well acknowledge that the bible is a collection of books and letters and NOT the work of only ONE writer
Yes, I was being a bit obtuse, but what I meant was that the typical Witness does not understand the point of looking at the Bible as individual writings because they believe the writings are tied together by holy spirit. The sort of mindset that Leolaia describes ("Because it is not a book [...] it does not have a uniform style or message") is one that comes after losing faith in the Bible as God's word. Making that statement to a Witness discredits, in their mind, anything you have to say after that point because it's a sweeping dismissal of everything they believe in.
Thus, while the thoughts may be valid (and I certainly agree with them), they will be ineffective. And many of the contradictions on page 1 can be answered by looking in the WT Library. I could rebut a few off the top of my head, but don't see the point in taking the time when I don't believe the rebuttals anymore. Just know, exwhyzee, that your Witness friend may be shaken at first, but will quickly come back with a smug grin after reading his Library because the Society addressed the differences in numbers and lineages.
