I tend to agree with Terry. There was a fair amount of defensiveness at the Annual Meeting over things like the addition of "Jehovah" to the NT that made me think that the GB was feeling stung by criticism of their translation (why only now, I have no idea).

Wife says "John 17:3 is just like Christendom's translations!"
by leaving_quietly inshe downloaded the jw library app which has the parallel versions of a verse, and upon looking at john 17:3, she said the above to me.
i wonder if this will start causing chinks in the armor for many jws, especially when they look up john 14:14 or rev.
5:10. the months ahead should be interesting..

Ancient Confession Found: 'We Invented Jesus Christ'
by Watchtower-Free inhttp://uk.prweb.com/releases/2013/10/prweb11201273.htm.
ancient confession found: 'we invented jesus christ'biblical scholars will be appearing at the 'covert messiah' conference at conway hall in london on the 19th of october to present this controversial discovery to the british public.
london (prweb uk) 8 october 2013. american biblical scholar joseph atwill will be appearing before the british public for the first time in london on the 19th of october to present a controversial new discovery: ancient confessions recently uncovered now prove, according to atwill, that the new testament was written by first-century roman aristocrats and that they fabricated the entire story of jesus christ.

I assume this theory isn't brand-new because mP's been posting this sort of claim for quite a while.

As I said in another thread, this verse comparison feature (which is like BibleHub, something I've been using since I learned TTATT but which most JWs probably don't know about) could be a bad idea, in that it will demonstrate to some JWs that there was really no need for a new NWT after all, when it's simply gotten closer to a bunch of old Bible translations from Christendom.

I've never quite figured out what the JWs do to keep people active. I suspect ritual shunning is number one in why people stay.
In a word, nagging. If you miss meetings, you get asked where you were. If you miss enough, people start suspiciously avoiding you when you're at the meetings, long before any official shunning takes place due to a DFing.
What really gets me are the expectations of some of the leaders that people will have to work in Paradise Earth. They'll have to build their homes, plant their own crops.
Don't forget cleaning up the Earth! The Society has long indicated that JWs will be spending the Thousand Years cleaning up the god-awful mess made by humanity since the Industrial Age. I hope perfect people are immune to toxic waste....

Not Forsaking Christian Gatherings
by StephaneLaliberte inat the meeting this week, there was a part about placing our trust in jehovah and not worrying about food and shelter (mat 6:33).
the part was based on the 2013 yearbook p138 and 139 where there were two examples:.
a family went to their convention leaving their chickens unattended for a number of days, worried about if they would survive.

Fwiw, the chickens could have been stolen by jealous villagers.

A bit of gossip.
by chrisuk ini just thought i'd share this; my mom has dinner with her jw friend on tuesdays and apparently the jw wasn't in a very good mood today... the reason for this as she told my mom is because she wasn't invited to the agm.
she's been a jw for 25 years, doesn't pioneer, but is very dedicated to the cause.
she also explained to my mom that 2 other sisters one of whom is 80 yrs old and has been a jw all her life wasn't invited either.

Bible printing, a loss of money for the WTS
by oppostate inso i brought this up in another thread... but i think it needs its own discussion.. having had one of the new grey leatherette and silver edged bibles with the new appendixes in my hand.
i immediately thought of all the custom covered nwt bibles you see some publishers sporting at meetings.
also the fact that the co's and wives who'd been given one had to turn it back in seemed very off-putting.. .

I can understand oppostate being miffed that we ignored his thread and then acted really surprised by later threads on the same subject :) Well, my excuse is that I was away from the forum for a few months at the time, I don't know what you guys' is ;)
It was revealed at the AGM that trial versions of the Bibles had been getting tested in the previous months, but I didn't think they meant with the new text in them, just the new binding. But I guess it makes sense; they were in the midst of ramping up production on the new NWT and printing them in large volume, so printing a few old NWTs with the new binding wouldn't have been practical. Not surprising that they recalled them in order to increase the surprise factor when they were officially debuted.
